Could it be possible that every Red Sox fan need a broom with them when the go to Yankee stadium today or is it towels to absorb all the tears that will be flowing?
Red Sox would have to play .733 baseball at this point to reach 100 wins. Possible, but IMO not likely. As the end nears, I think Farrell will tend to rest starters for the playoffs. As one of the biggest critics early in the season, I'm thrilled to have been so wrong...I think I was close on the end of the sellout though.
Better to enjoy the games on the tube...tix, parking, and outrageous beer prices kinda dampen the thrill.
Would love to see a sweep of the Yankees upcoming. BEWARE the wildcard spoiler team...no "do-overs" at that stage.
<< <i>I don't think Farrell will let up too much as he has so much talent on his roster that it doesn't matter who he plays they want to win.
Not only that but I bet he wants to win 100 games. >>
I think Farrell is doing a great job obviously, I do believe he is a players manager with a set of balls that wont let the players dictate the way things are.
The biggest things to happen were getting rid of that ignorant Beckett, that coward Crawford and the super passive JD Drew clone Gonzalez.
I dont think Farrell cares one bit about 100 games, he wants this team to stay healthy and keep playing at the level they have been playing at and enjoying it.
Very nice ceremony for Mariano tonight at Fenway. He and Jeter are two very classy Yankee players. Jeter will get a similar sendoff when his day comes.
ARod OTOH, will get what the bird left on the pump handle.

Agreed. Bout the only other recent Yankee that I can put in their class is B Williams - Not sure he gets the props he deserves.

Mariano is a class act and as much as I hate the Yankees I would agree with this post.
Lackey looked like a #1 last night. One bad pitch (hanger) sent to the parking lot, but did it with no men on base. That's playoff caliber pitching there.
I love their pitching staff heading into the post-season. Buchholz returning to form after a long layoff, Lester has been lights out for over a month, and Peavy and Lackey have been extremely reliable, and will be much better than any 3rd or 4th starter that they'd face in the playoffs. On the back end, Uehara has been virtually unhittable.
If they can just iron out the 7th/8th inning roles, they'll be all set.
Farrell had better stop resting his players and put them back on the field if he wants to have the best team in the AL this year. He could lose that lead he has quickly. Mistakes are costing them with these rookies.
I like Eck, but Remy is better, IMO. Justifiably so, Eck focuses more on the pitching aspect of the game. Remy is more well-rounded. Both are very funny, which you need over the course of 162 games.
Mike Timlin's effort as "junior announcer boy" was Pahhhhhthetic!!! So bad that I switched stations. Why Eck didn't finish the season is a mystery to me.
As for Jerry Remy, I think he should have returned after maybe a month from the horrorible thing his son did. What's the point of being suddenly gone for the remainder of the season? Does he just sit at home and let all that eat at him? Better to stay busy, nothing he can do to fix that disaster.
<< <i>I think it's time for NESN to make a change.
Eck is far superior and more fun to listen to than Remdog. >>
I agree!! I think they have broadcast lightning in a bottle with Eck. If NESN does not hire him permanently, Fox or TBS probably will (more than part-time).
I like Remy, but he seems to be more of a goofball in recent years. And I do feel sorry for him regarding his son (and the victim's family as well) -- has to have been a lifetime of frustration and pain.
I actually thought Mike Timlin did OK the last couple games -- not as good as Eck, but pretty good for someone with zero broadcast experience.

Don't forget to wish Arod farewell!
Now give your guys a little bit of rest now over the last 17 games so they can get over their nagging injuries and see what the kids can do.
Find out if you need to spend over 100 million to resign Ellsbury or not.
He is a great player but he plays so hard he gets hurt a lot.
Get Buchholz out there every 5 day no matter who you have to sit on the bench to get him ready.
We have a chance to win the world series for the 3rd time in 10 years.
That would sure be nice.
And how bout that Mike carp off the bench with a 4 bagger grandy for the win?
Back a few months ago the Sox winning 100 games seemed like a dream.
So now with the few amount of games left can they hit the century mark?
Yea that pinch hit grand slam in the tenth just shows you how things have changed from last year.
Wish I could travel again so I could get to watch some of the games in Fenway again but I will have to settle for my 52 inch tv.

No 100 wins, but AL East champs on the near horizon...no too shabby.

too soon?

Red Sox have a good shot...we'll see soon enough.

I can truly say nothing would get me angry at these guys the rest of the way this year, they have far exeeded my expectations.
Go Sox!!!
