    Losing Bailey for the remainder of the year sure does not help and who knows about Buchholtz. They just cant stay healthy.

    Red Sox need to pick up another couple of good pitchers somewhere to make it all the way through the playoffs.

    Rays pitching is top notch and class of the league.

    With one more pitcher they win the division and with 2 they win the world series.

    Well, it's Saturday....we all know what that means...NO Red Sox game. They're showing the Braves - White Sox game...I. won't b watching.

    After a little bit of the Pirates/Reds game, we got the Sox game in WA on Fox. Nice to see them take 2 of 3 over the weekend. Now, maybe they can put some distance between themselves and the Rays. The Rays are turning out to be quite a bit better than I thought they'd be.

    This series with the Rays feels like the most important series of the season so far. It's critical that the Red Sox win at least two of these games.

    It's a 4 game series so they can still take 2 of the next 3 and leave this series with a lead in the AL East.

    Moore sure pitched his heart out in that game.

    Sox should continue to roll tnrough August. I think the September schedule is gonna be tough. Now is the time to build a cushion.

    Time for some changes.

    Bring up Middlebrooks, Bradley,and Bogaerts and one of the better prospect pitchers.

    Trade Iglesias, Drew, Dempster, Ellsbury ( as he is leaving anyway), Napoli and any of the other weak hitters and pichers.

    Get Lee and Peevey and maybe even Pap.

    Eat some payroll if you have to as money should be no object at this point,

    Let the kids play.

    My thoughts would be that the Sox weren't expected to even contend this year, let alone be in first place, and as a Sox fan I would be stoked that they've been as competitive as they have despite having traded away all their name talent. Mortgaging the future that looks bright for a run this year would be foolhardy to me.

    He didn't like a strike call that should have been ball 4 and then he struck out. That should get them fired up hopefully.

    That was actually a horrible little temper tantrum. If you asked me, he looked like a fool. I dont think that gets the Sox fired up when a player goes off on an umpire about being struck out. Sox have had a good thing going...I think this is a bad thing especially if Ortiz finds himself a suspension, even if only a game or two. I dont think it will go that far but if it does....

    Baseball, being a slave to its history, only embraces this sort of nonsense. If instead baseball would be progressive and actually use instant replay, then these sorts of things would be eliminated. The entire notion of the 'human element' being a plus instead of the negative it is is absurd. The idea that replay would make the games longer need just look at this outburst, or the countless manager arguments that occur when a call is blown that would be eliminated with a simple replay.

    I don't blame Ortiz for finally blowing up. Like he said to the media after the game, the umpire took away his ability to do his job, and all because the ump made a horrific call. I don't recall Ortiz ever blowing up like that before, so as long as it doesn't become a normal thing I'll be willing to give him a pass.

    Pretty bush-league of Ortiz to blowup like he did. Post game he said he wasn't going to be disrespected and wasn't going to have is at bat taken away.
    Well, bad calls happen, be professional enough to take the bad call and wait for the next pitch, which BTW was ball 4, but he swung and struck out.

    Now comes the insanity with the bat and phone. Recall that Pedroia was right next to all the action, covering his head hoping not to get hurt. What if one of those many bat splinters impaled Pedroia???

    Ortiz should be fined and given a suspension, otherwise crap like that will happen again, I don' t care who the player is...screw that disrespect crap.

    Bad call in last night's game. Clearly the left foot touched home b4 the tag. Bad angle by the umpire.

    Maybe the managers should b allowed to have one challenge per game...similar 2 the NFL. At least. It wouldh've tied the game. Every win/loss is big at this stage, especially against those in the Red Sox Division.

    Yup, Boomer was a thrill back in the day.

    Personally I would keep Iggy and use for trade Elsbury--Middlebrooks--Bradly jr--schnider

    Reason being:
    Elsbury at the end of his contract and they have out fielders on the bench carp,Gomes

    Iggy is a starter in the bigs (unless of course he's complaining about being at 3rd and not short). he seems to be in a little slump but every player does.(look at pedrioa just signed a 100 mil long term contract and he's slumping).

    And wheres Middlebrooks and bradly oh yeah in the minors.

    Whats Schider done not much in my opinion...... its possible he can get it together like Iggy. (I just think it's bad buisness to get rid of what you have not knowing what schinder could do).

    Thats my nickles worth.

    But dont mind me I'm still bitter about the Dwight Evans deal and not letting him have one more year to finish his career with the Bosox.

    After a few minutes rereading what I had wrote i'll be a little more positive about the trade and we'll know tommorrow.

    Thankfully the trade has nothing to do with the Yankees which have been buying up elite players for decades just to win the world series.

    And another note on Iggy he has been getting daily coaching on the side from his uncle who is/was in the yankees camp.

    And I hope that Peavy does'nt wind up reinjuring his ailments, but I think going to a team that has a winning attitude will help keep his ailments atbay

    Sox imperssed me with Tampa this past weekend.......When the pressure is on they can get it done but October ball is a long ways away.

    And I also have to give alot of credit too the coaching in AA & portland camps for getting these kids to the big show its nice to have depth that they can turn to in a pinch.

    Totally agree, lets hope he can bring alot to the table.

    I like it, also his contract is for 14.5 with an option, not bad at all.

    Going out with my toothbrush to clean one was no fun.

    Incredible comeback last night, shades of the gutsy 2004 team.

    Gotta wonder how the Red Sox can lose to a team like the Astros, who have such a dismal record. Worse yet, get shutout while having 8 LOBs . These are the games that add up quickly in the September push..of which the Sox have no easy road to hoe.

    Napoli and Dempster need to be on a long vacation, how about a slow boat to China with return date of Nov 1st.

    Put Carp on 1st and you have Nava for a backup.

    Buchholtz will be back soon and Dempster is not needed. He is cooked. Time to eat his contract or maybe the Yankees need him.

    Tough to get old and cant stay awake at night isn't it or could it have been you thought you were still in 2012?

    If we were to put both Dempster and Napoli in one of those dumpsters with a toothbrush they may be able to get it clean by the 3rd week in

    October and that would be ok cause it would be just in time to trade Dumpster (Dempster) to some unlucky team. It's also a good thing we got

    rid of that 3 year deal with Napoli. He $ucks!

    Actually, I had to be on the road early the next AM.

    Somebody needs to tell Lester to stop acting like a hot head when things don't go his way. No doubt his f-bombs can be heard by the fans. Lester always looks angry, never acknowledges the cheering fans. I won't miss him when he gets on the "Timlin bus" with Dempster.

    No, I agree, they should not renew his contract, It will only cost them 350 k to get rid of him but I doubt they will.

    Middlebrooks looked good last night and with Bougarts ready for shortstop next year they should have a decent infield if they get rid of Napoli. Too many strikeouts for my liking, he needs to stop swinging for the fences.

    I am somewhat surprised how well the Red Sox are doing right now with the current rotation. I can't say that I'd be comfortable taking that rotation into a 5 game series. Almost every team you'd face has a better 1-2 at the top of the rotation and you'd see them each twice.

    Yea that pitching staff sure does leave a lot to be desired in a short series. I dont know how they will get out of Detroit alive.

    Have to agree with the pitching they were doing better before Peavy got here, but they were making it work.

    And since you brought up Detroit that trade ranks right up there with the babe ruth trade almost a 100 years ago. If I were Mr ben cherington I would find away to put Iggy back in a sox uniform, the kid has got some awsome range & a quick release, and when the last time Elsbury legged out 20 infield hits in a season let alone 2 months.. Them infield hits sure would have helped against KC.
    Personally Id take a guy like Iggy over a guy that might hit 20-25 hr's in a season any day of the week and twice on sunday (base hits win ball games not hr's).

    So heres my request trade Napoli & drew for Iggy and bring up Bougarts & put Middlebrooks and Carp at 1st base.

    Yep Detroit got the better deal. And something has upset the dynamic since the trade.

    Thats just my humble bitter opinion.

    Yes the Red Sox gave up a great player in Iggy but they have a logjam at that position and needed a pitcher badly if they are going to make a run this year thus he became expendable.
    They still have a logjam there and need to start training a 1st baseman as they sure do not have a good one now. They have several middle infielders in the minors now that could fill that roll and stop them from trading more of their future stars which they have an abundance of with nowhere for them to play.
