I have a chance to buy 185 silver dollars in graded holders. What do I pay to profit from these ?

I’m wondering what I should pay for these below the book value to resell them individually on ebay? Also I won’t see them til next week, if they are all in the old holders is that a good thing for me? Do coins in the old holders usually get a higher grade when resubmitted?

Old holders may bring a modest premium assuming that the coins are all there for the grade. Unless the collection has been buried for many years, the upgradable one likely already have.

Check Ebay auction results (or heritage) to find recent pricing. Work back from there. Ebay/Paypal/shipping fees with a store are in the 12-13% range.

Good luck...it sounds like a great opportunity.

An awful lot to assume to provide any kind of answer. First of all, old PCI holders or PCGS? Maybe INS or PCCS?

You could always try the old coin dealer "Whaddaya lookin' to get outta dose?" question first :D

Wait until you see them (the coins). Take good notes and some photos. Then ask. Lots of good people with plenty of expertise here who will be glad to help, but the more information you can provide, the more help you can expect.

    It depends on multiple factors....1) grading service....2) grade assigned....3) date & Mint-mark.

Not the ones bought sight unseen IMO.
Not knowning who graded them melt would be a start point on pricing.

I don't care who graded the dollars, I will pay melt on as many as you have, all day and night long.

    Dates, mintmarks, conditions?

Also, be sure the coins are graded by NGC, PCGS, or ANACS and not just the plastic holders.

Either you won't pony up the dough or the seller will just say no. Not a chance you'll get them as the seller knows much more than you on these dollars.

$20 each is probably a safe bet with the lack of details available to make a rational judgement.

Just like you we don't know what they are so we cant tell you till we know, could be a bunch of gold dollars like prez one's and not the real Gold dollars.

I love dreaming but then I get slapped with the reality of life that most collectors are just that and see a lot of stuff that is worth face or less. But you never know that's why you need to look at it. It just may be a home run but get the deal 1st then we can give you a better idea about it. You don't want to rip them but you need to make $$$ for your time it will take for you to sell.

Will you have an opportunity to see the coins in their holders and then do research or is it see and buy or not. If the latter, you had better be very educated on what you are doing. Good luck.

Definitely do not buy the coins sight unseen. If you really want to do this deal, check and see what similar coins have sold for at auction, consider all expenses, then build in the profit you want.

For what it is worth, you might want to consider starting with smaller deals while you learn, mistakes can be expensive. If you do the deal I hope it works out well.

Given the details within the first post, I guess perhaps $1,000 each would be fair.

I know someone that hit the big 6 and is willing to go up to $10K each ;)

Cannot comment without more information. Silver dollars can include a variety of metal purity and yes some holders will get a small premium but not because of resubmitting unless they are old Morgan’s or proofs. Peace ASE are all different. If you get any Trade dollars let me know. Good luck.

There is not enough information here to even hazard a guess. The worst case senecio would 185 Chinese counterfeits in counterfeit grading holders.

    Call me a fool but.....

After living in the Detroit area since 2009 , I've learned that the X Files mantra " Trust No One" is the only way to go in the ISA .

EVERYONE. Yes EVERYONE is looking for a sucker to unleash their scam onto. If it was me, I'd be expecting Chinese Counterfeit Morgans and Peace Dollars. I bought some, directly from a Beijing source once, and they looked surprisingly real. I think I paid around $4 each ( DELIVERED), so watch out !

P.S. the ISA I put in above was NO Typo on my part. I've found in my 9 years up here in the "Biggest Metro Bankruptcy City" in History , that very few will help you with ANYTHING. Even if it's their job to help , they won't do anything other that give you a transfer to someone elses phone. So in the end , you find yourself in the ISA ( Incompetent States of America ) . United? Maybe at one point in past History ( 1776? ) these States MAY have been "United" , but now ?

    Good luck on ever making the I S A back into the " Great " U S A .

Contact the seller and ask for the following information: Coin type, date and mint mark, TPG on holder, grade. Once you have this information you can prepare an offer if you are interested in buying.

You know how to make $3500 buying 185 graded Morgans when you do not know what you are doing?

Buy them for $5500, and after you sell them, you have $3500 left.

If you don't know the answer to that question without asking a question like this on the board you have no business considering such a purchase.

Agreed. And have you considered how much work it is to sell 185 silver dollars individually on eBay? Plus the eBay and PayPal fees will eat up a lot of your potential profits.

If the coins are dated before 1805, you should be fine paying $10 per coin, as long as they’re actual silver.

I bet everyone who told me not to purchase these because I asked if coins in the old holders usually upgrade are ALL DEALERS trying to keep people like me from taking the chance away from them. I Purchased raw coins from this man before. He inherited everything and knows nothing. I’m not getting ripped off for sure but I understand that I have to be cautious. I’m excited to show you what I get, I have a great feeling about this one. I admit the chances of this working out are slim but when dealing with the client I’m getting them from... it should be a score.

Considering one of the coins in the raw batch I bought came out graded best known WORLD WIDE. I’m excited to see what was actually graded
