Who was that Houston fan that didn't like Gordon?! :oB)

Well...that was something of a turnaround. I hope the Warriors win game 7...I don't think I could stand another series with Harden playing. He pushes off EVERY TIME he drives to the basket!!!! They finally called it on him once! He was shocked!

    ARGH! I can't stand him!

  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,288 ✭✭✭✭✭

HE outscored Houston 64 to 25 in the second half to win in a blow out. Each game in the series has been a surprise. Glad we get a game 7

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

well, the Warriors found that gear we knew they had and really put the hammer down on Houston. certainly some of it can be attributed to defense as the media always wants to do, but Houston shot poorly, slipped into heavy isolation plays and made some really bad, sloppy choices coming down-court. after a scintillating first quarter the Rockets seemed to lose focus entirely, I mean they had Golden State on the ropes that early. the Warriors weren't doing much right and I figured a haymaker was coming in the 2nd quarter but they let the Warriors back into the game.

I have always liked Klay Thompson, a better defender and all-around player than fan favorite Curry and he really found his shot last night.

Game 7 will be interesting and a true test of James Harden. if he can't rise to the occasion and lead the Rockets to a series clinching victory at home it will cast doubt on his character as a great player. he caved in to the pressure last year and was a no-show in an elimination game, now we get to see if he is truly as weak as that suggested. to my mind, that is part of the Warrior mystique, they are never really out of a game, but what about Houston?? if Golden State gets a lead can the Rockets fight back or will they roll over??

that is the big test tonight for the Cavs in Boston. the Celtics have proven very hard to beat at home and if they get a lead they can hard to catch. I think one of the keys tonight will be how Ty Lue uses his time-outs to stop any Boston runs. if he doesn't do that the game could be lost early.

Congrats keets & Brick on a huge series win for your Cavs. Boston just couldn’t finish what they started and all of the credit for that goes to Cleveland. I’m a bit disappointed that Boston couldn’t make it to the Finals but they’ve far exceeded my expectations for these playoffs. I really can’t wait to see what next year’s Celtics team looks like.
Now go finish this by beating whichever team makes it out of the West and take that trophy back to Cleveland.

They got the Cavs in foul trouble early in the 4th and never took advantage of it. They should have been taking it to the hoop every trip down on offense.

edit: speaking of Smart,Boston has a huge decision to make this offseason regarding re-signing Smart longterm.

The Cavs defense which has been scrutinized all year is the reason for the win. And having the best player on the planet. Regardless of the Finals outcome, this is an amazing accomplishment.

They keep bringing up Labron's 8th trip to the Finals, which is great. But keep in mind MJ would not only have been to 8 straight, but would have won 8 straight if he had not decided to go play Baseball.

Green definitely filled in greatly for Love. You know is was probably bittersweet for Green with knocking out Boston after playing for the C's and getting traded elsewhere twice.

Congratulations also to the Celtics getting as far as they did with their top stars out with injuries. They will be a force for years to come. What the Cavs did without Kevin Love in the final two games is remarkable.

    So true.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

I can hardly believe the outcome of the game. after the way it started I worried that Boston would get going and just steamroll the Cavs but it never happened. I think it was in the second quarter just before the half and the Cavs made a run that closed out the half and had them close. then at the start of the fourth quarter when the Celtics took the lead I thought they'd do what they had already done at home, pushed the ball in the paint and score with relative ease.

with everything that took place in the game it's remarkable how low scoring it was, but no one seemed able to score from the arc or with any consistency. both Teams even shot less than 75% from the free throw line, crazy in a game this important.

Kevin, you called this right way back on page one, even about nobody steam rolling to the finals. all the Teams have had to fight. the finals will be fun, I'm rooting for Houston.

  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,288 ✭✭✭✭✭

This year's playoffs have been much more compelling, dramatic and entertaining than last year's playoffs.

    Refreshing actually.

If Chris Paul does not play tomorrow Houston will be at a disadvantage. I have no idea how either team will play. Glad it is a game 7.

Who on the forums would like to see Cleveland v Golden State, Act 4?

If it is Cleveland v. Houston, the story line will be James v Hardin.

  • BrickBrick Posts: 4,999 ✭✭✭✭✭

Either Golden State or Houston will be heavily favored. I think Cleveland would fare better against Houston because when the Warriors get rolling they are unbeatable plus they would play with great confidence knowing a snowball in Hell would have a better chance than the Cavs. The Cavs will have to keep the games low scoring. If they get in a track meet with either team it's over.

This of course is true. There is zero reason to believe the Bulls would have won. You can’t assume anything and give title on ifs and buts. Those are won on the court and not in someones dreams. Who knows maybe if he would have continuing playing hoops instead of baseball he gets hurt during that time and the Bulls don’t win titles 5 and 6. But, he took time of and they did. What’s in the record books is exactly what they are entitled to and nothing more. Besides Jordan is totally irrelevant in this thread.

I didn't notice if Irving was on the bench or not but wish that entire Team would have been on the bench, the Celtics will be something for the League to be concerned about for as long as they can hold those players together. the Cavs fan in me hopes they scatter like the wind, the Sports fan in me hopes they reign in their egos, find Humility in what they are and make a conscious choice to be loyal, not to the Celtics, but to each other and their Coach, to remain together. it is a rare thing for an individual player to do, but if Irving/Hayward/Brown/Tatum/Rozier/Horford/Baynes lock arms together they could be scary under Brad Stevens.

it's sort of funny, but we have been fascinated by the Warriors and the power of the West for a few seasons now and it appears that the pendulum may be swinging back East. Toronto, Indiana, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Boston all seem to be in a position to challenge Any Team in the NBA for a shot at the Championship. in view of how Houston has been able to play Golden State this could be the last year of Western dominance.

if the Lebron led Cleveland Cavaliers are able to do the improbable and win the NBA Championship it might stay in the Eastern Conference for a while. the East is younger than the West and the dynamic is changing.

the Boston Celtics have found a way to make us forget about the 76'ers. <3

Mark, did you see the Lebron block of Rozier?? he threw a poorly advised pass that Rozier alertly snatched and raced towards the basket with. as he moved towards the rim, Lebron trailed on the other side of the court and the intent was pretty obvious. the only question was what the result would be. Lebron executed perfectly and got position, timed his jump and met Rozier at the peak of his jump.

a little later in the game Tatum used his speed and skill to get past Lebron and slam one home. that dude is a pretty good 20 year old!!!

I thought Rozier was good on defense generally but the offensive part of his brain was out to lunch last night. On the play you are talking about literally everyone watching knew Lebron was going to at least try to block that. Why didn't he pass ?? , its like all the 3's he tried with 15 seconds left on the shot clock, maddening

Why doesn't stevens call time out and say omg cut the $hit you knuckleheads you are not even hitting the backboard half the time.

He should have played this inspirational video for them during half time

I will never personally like Lebron James, but i gotta give him credit where credit is due, as far as being a great basketball player is concerned.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

Bronco, just my take from the series.......................a large part of it was youth-full in your face, trying to show up the Cavs basketball. go through all the games and it's surprising how many slam dunk attempts were missed. Rozier, in particular, tended to show his Bravado whenever he was hot. some of that had to do with his Cleveland roots.

if you look in the thread I made mention of the blowout loss dunk made by Brown with 10 seconds left in game five, it was unnecessary but how can the Coach stop that??? it is the down-side of what made Boston so good, their youth and exuberance, especially at home. Brad Stevens probably wishes they wouldn't do that but he probably doesn't want them to stop.

another example was when Tatum made that dunk over Lebron, he bumped his shoulder, screamed in his face from about a foot while Morris, a step away, did the same thing. Lebron just looked at Tatum like he had two heads and then the Cavs went on a 15-2 run!!! what was proven?? nothing, but I guess it felt good for them both. that was a god example of youth vs. age and a rookie vs. experience. Jayson Tatum will have his time(s) but that just wasn't one of them.

I think Brad Stevens and these young players will take what they learned in the playoffs and put it in the Bank, let Kyrie Irving and Al Horford lead them next year and when the time comes they'll make a withdrawal, using what they learned. Irving especially will probably be the Soul of the Team and help harness the energy these guys have. he certainly has the experience to do that.

steve, do you personally not like other NBA players?? I don't understand that sort of thinking anymore than I understand the way the fans in Boston booed every time Lebron touched the ball. I don't think he doesn't like Boston fans, I think he sort respects them for their passion, boos and all.

the twist is the old saying, He who laughs last laughs best. but I don't believe Lebron James is laughing at Boston fans or Boston players, he's just too tired right now. the man is the consummate professional who every day pays the price for his youthful transgressions of a lack of humility. aside from that and his greatness as an NBA player I would challenge anyone to post the things he's done which could prompt hate.

I tend to hate all the "gushing" by the media over Lebron myself but it's no different than anything else that takes place in Sports. my personal peeve is the "so long tours" that players like Derek Jeter embarked upon, but they all tend to be media driven and the players get swept up in them. no one goes out quietly anymore if they have attained any level of supremacy. in last night's game I couldn't understand the insistence on ESPN to post "Lebron James has this many points, the rest of the Team has this many" over and over. why do they do stuff like that?? it only tends to irritate fans who already are fed up with the hype.

I personally enjoy watching Lebron James for what he does, much like enjoy watching that freak out West, Kevin Durant. I mean, really, how can you get tired of watching these guys play and doing the things they do with such ease. Kevin Durant is even more low key than Lebron, they show his face after a spectacular play and he looks so peaceful. he must have some kind of Zen going on.

  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

keets - Steve just says he doesn't like Labron, but gave him credit for his play. As far as "so long tours" I think they are great and they deserve them. MJ got one ..... Kobe got one....and I think Lebron should get one when he retires.

speaking of injuries, I have liked Jeff Green since the Cavs signed him, think he's a pretty good defender and has a strong move to the rim. he shot well in the last two games but I'm not sure he should be taking the three's. now I find out from watching a post game interview that he had surgery for an aortic aneurysm back around 2011, missed a season and came back to play. that's pretty incredible.

for Houston to have any chance, he has to play. they simply do not have enough players on the roster who can log heavy minutes and can help score at Golden State's pace without him.

i didn't watch game 6, but the outcome was what i anticipated. actually, it was worse than what i expected because the Rockets were up by 17 after the first quarter. that's a 46-pt turnaround over the next three for those scoring at home.

Luc Mbah a Moute got the lion's share of Paul's minutes and he's a guy who has literally forgotten how to put the ball in the hole. he has played 54 minutes in the series and scored a grand total of 5 points. he wouldn't even sniff the court tonight were it not for Paul's injury, but they will be forced to play him it appears. others who could potentially be called upon to offset CP3's loss of production: Ryan Anderson (21 mins in the series, zero points), Aaron Jackson (8 mins, 4 pts), Nene Hilario (6 mins, zero points), and an antiquated Joe Johnson (20 mins, 6 points).

in other words, the situation is laughably dire. without Chris Paul, the Rockets are bringing a knife to a gunfight. sure, they might slash the Warriors a time or two (a la the 1st quarter in G6), but once Golden St comes to, they will unload a clip on Houston.

I love the analogies. It's really too bad CP3 got hurt. I like CP#'s game much better than Harden.
