@Mr_Spud .... Yes, I have found a couple of those with the edge groove. The first time, I spent a few minutes trying to 'open' the coin Did not open.. then checked it out and found it was minted that way. Cheers, RickO
Interesting find. Nothing in the coin return, the coin basket or entry slot. Turned to leave and saw a plastic zip-lock baggy off to the far side on the countertop. Instantly saw bright silver inside. Along with the beauty below was 3 carwash tokens, 2 dirty quarters, 2 dimes stuck together, a nickel and 4 dirty cents.
There’s something comforting about reaching into the coinstar reject slot and feeling that small handful of goodness. Been awhile but here it is. Nothing too special about this except for the lovely 57 dime in good condition that’s now soaking in acetone. Got to love some free silver. 😁
Yep.... been about the same for me. And I just checked this morning at the market... Zilch, nada, nothing, zero.... So, I bought a MegaMillions ticket. Cheers, RickO
@Glen2022 , @ricko ,
They're definitely not getting smarter in my neck of the woods. 2023 has been a good year for both silver and change.
As I have stated, there are 3 major stores within a block and 1/4 apart that all have CS machines (Safeway, Nob-Hill & Mexican store) and they are along my daily route.
It's easy to make quick stop and on average I might hit all 3 twice a day, so that about 40 checks a week. Some may think that is excessive, but I work from home and go to feed some stray cats (no not the band) at the Home Depot so I stop and check the coin star. The two pictures below are from yesterday, no silver just change and today, change and a silver 1958D dime.
I have got so much silver this year, I decided to track on excel, see below. One dime was actually a 1887S, my 1st War Nickel and 1st Kennedy half.

I just struck silver at the Coinstar at lunchtime today. Also not sure what’s going on on the side of the rim on the 2 cent euro coin.
That is really funny. Though I’m from Europe I never noticed the grooved edge on the 2 cent coin. I think the different Edge should serve to make it easier for blind people to distinguish between the cent units. Just like the size.
I found these coins at the Kroger coinstar yesterday afternoon. I knew that the 1964-D dime was silver before I even took it out of the slot. This particular coinstar location has always been one of my luckiest spots for finding silver.
Mr. Roosevelt has now been retired from circulation. This is his new residence.
Finding silver in the Coinstar (usually dimes) is a nice surprise. It has been a while for me though... Not even much change for a month or so.... Cheers, RickO
5/12: I am truly amazed, and I'm dumfounded by this. I find my share of silver but the majority of the time it's a dime. Quarters are rare and typically maybe 2 for a full year, well I found 3 quarters so far in May, and the month isn't half over. My Son's birthday month must be.... 57-D
5/13: Tip if you don't see anything in the coin-basket, lift the handle. No silver, but I did not see these 2 1943-S steel Lincoln's until I lifter the handle and they popped up. Always nice to get these fairly rare steel cents.
5/14: I've given this tip before but now have attached pictures. Look into the slot that the coins pour (pass) through, many times you will find coins struck there. I use my folded business-card as tweezers and pull them out. 2nd pictures show the 14 cents that I pulled free. No silver but leave no coin behind! lol!
$2.26 tonight at the supermarket Coinstar. No silver. Somebody jammed up the machine and then left with the reject slot full. Saw coins sticking out of the feeder up top. Had I a butter knife and no shame, I might have left thirty or forty cents richer 😆
Bottom coin is a 2006 British five pence

Okay I don't get it, but there is something going on in the small town of Gilroy CA! Yet another silver 64-D dime along with a 68-D copper cent at the Nobhill... I have no clue why, but some folks are throwing away silver around here... Amazing!!!!
I went to the same grocery store again today at lunchtime that I went to yesterday and checked the Coinstar and found another silver dime. If this keeps up I’m thinking of putting together a silver Roosevelt album that’s exclusively from Coinstar finds 🧐🌞
I always forget to glance at the coinstars...today I glanced...
Got myself a super rare two headed double thick 2020 D cent!!
Aaaand a 2 cent Nederland Euro that's actually worth 2.2 cents if I take it in to do the currency exchange!
Yesterday found 3 nickels and three cents in the reject slot - and one foreign coin, forget what country. Oh well, the drought is broken, maybe silver next time. Cheers, RickO
It has been months since I've found anything in the local Coinstar reject bins, until tonight when I found this beauty along with a corroded zincoln:
Sorry for the lousy cell phone pics. It's a really nice AU slider with luster remaining. Crazy that it ended up in someone's change jar.

Gees, you can get a family member to check the machine and all I get is ridicule and embarrassment for having the audacity to check the coin machine.
I know where they're coming from
I can never forget riding home from school on the LIRR and once in awhile my Grandpa would be on the same train.
As we were getting off one night I started to pick up discarded Posts, Daily Mirrors etc. and he said to me 'Don't be a seagull!"
I always think of Gramps when I check the Coinstar haha

Free silver is always special.... I have not found any in quite a while now. Cheers, RickO
Absolutely nothing for three or four weeks. People must be getting smarter and not leaving rejects.

I found this stuck to a magnet inside a scrapped coin machine.
My local Kroger took out the Coinstar (hopefully temporarily). Now it's just grocery shopping. Dang!

Insane month of May! Silver 64 DI can hardly believe it....
Found a 1964D dime, plus a foreign coin at the Coinstar located in Safeway today.
No silver, unfortunately. These were all still in the tray at the top. Nothing in the reject bin.

I've been suffering the silver drought for about 6 weeks now. Lots of zincolns and everyday change and a '43 steel cent but nothing else.

Went to Kroger to pickup some M&Ms, since it is the last day they are on sale.
Made my usual coin star check.
Found this 1964 Rosie. I also found two sticky cents, and a sticky clad dime.
Found about 2 yrs ago out of a scrapped coin machine. Many more, but here's an idea of its contents.
Finally, 1st june silver find, no shutout, I was getting worried. 1939 S Mercury dime plus some change!
