That is one really nice Munson. I hope it grades well. What PSA grade do you need to break even?

8.5 would probably do the trick, but its kind of psa 9 he makes a boatload or psa 8 he loses half unless resubmits.

I think a PSA 8.5 would probably be the break even point.

Just curious if you selected a minimum grade of 8.5 on the form for the Munson?

  • mintonlyplsmintonlypls Posts: 2,153 ✭✭✭✭✭

    no minimum grade threshold...

  • LOTSOSLOTSOS Posts: 1,308 ✭✭✭✭✭

I never got the minimum grade thing unless it's on a cross over. As a grader I wouldn't want to be told it has to be a 9 when I think it's between an 8.5 or 9. I'd just kick it back. Now if they let you choose between a minimum grade and Authentic I might consider that on 1/1, 4/4, etc low count items. But I'm pretty sure you can't do that.

    You can do that. Notes.

Thanks for the info! I will have to keep that in mind in the future.

I think the anticipation for the potential grade of this card is about as big as anything we've ever seen in this forum, considering the difficulty of acquiring a true Mint Black Beauty Munson and the inherent value. Good luck, I hope you blow some minds.

Talking about 1971s...there is a secretary...where I work...who has purchased Topps factory sets beginning in 1971. The kicker to put you on the floor is that she has purchased 2 factory sets each year...one to open and one to remain closed! Too bad she isn't a little older and didn't start in the early 60s collecting..

I was hoping she needed money in her children's college fund and would have made an offer w/help of a college buddy ...but her son won a full swimming schollie to the Univ. of Louisville. He set two state records at the state meet in his senior year. I know it was hard for me to believe...but it is true. Not only thinking ahead to put one away...but this was a girl not boy. Though she is a big sports fan today. Go figure...

Something tells me you've asked seriously instead of waiting on sidelines, but if not it cannot hurt to try!

I'm sure a factory set wouldn't be as clean as we hope but I would imagine it would be quite the find.

VCP pictures the exact same card selling in 2008 by Memory Lane. It was sold in 2011 by Probstein, And then it was purchased by the OP from REA in 2014. I hope for your sake the card comes back in an adequately numbered holder for you, but there's no possibility this is your card's first trip to PSA.

I know it's risky but I have only had success when doing the crackout method.

Good luck to you, I have a feeling you will get your "9". If for some reason it grades an 8 you can just try again next year.

Pop shows 4 in PSA 9 and 0 in PSA 10. If sub popped today, pop report usually updates next business day, IIRC.

He had said grade would be known late last week, so I'm assuming he will check the grade as soon as it pops.

LOL--that is what I consider evidence of trimming or minsizerq as well. If they give me that I know I know I have a pending blazer in a future submission...

Sometimes feels like the horse and carrot game. They dangle it in front of you and you keep trying to nab that sucker, but it is so elusive. Finally, after a few tries, you grab it and satisfaction is yours.....until it's time for the next carrot.

Typically, a "blazer" is just a really sharp, well-conditioned card.

"Check out my new PSA 9"

    "Wow, that's a blazer!"

  • travis ttravis t Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭

Oh dude. Kevin. I'm sorry. You wanted know what a Blazer is. Sheesh. A Chevy. :#

  • LOTSOSLOTSOS Posts: 1,308 ✭✭✭✭✭

I just couldn't figure out whether PSA was handing out Clyde Drexler cards or sport coats with future submissions.

This is what I saw yesterday and I don't see any done today. I expect an 8.5 or higher to come, as long as PSA does not pull the old minsizerq or trimmed gambit.

  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭

To the best of my knowledge the pop doesn't update until after midnight. I know for registry purposes the cert doesn't become active until the next day.
