Is there really a need for another “club”? This forum is a good space already, and doesn’t require any maintenance 😀. The KOTCT is all but dead anymore (even tho it really isn’t about the MM, but sort of morphed that direction).

    Sounds good!

So who wants to be a charter member of the Dan Carr Club? :)

Of course, we need to ask Dan @dcarr if he's okay with the club and name!

If we get a chance at a yearly commissioned Dan Carr Club piece then I’m in!!

I’m actually in without the yearly piece, this thread has had so much traffic I think you could get a pretty good club going.

I wasn't serious about a Dan Carr Club at first. I was just commenting on the "DCC" on my coin until others showed interest.

I love the KOTCT and it's sad to hear it's all but dead. I collected their pieces for over 10 years. I'll try to drop in and see what's up.

I drop in a couple times per week. It's a virtual ghost town.

Turtle is the most active participant, and I think he's even given up.

What does the 2015 go for?

    Good question.

IIRC, a couple years ago an MS70 2015 Octagon was listed on ebay for a fixed price $699.

But I couldn't find any current listings nor recent sales on ebay. So who knows?

    Are these the 2015-D?
    PS……I should have said…… I don’t know only 95 we’re minted.
So are these them? I bought three cause I needed to fill the
Metal the blanks were cut out of.

    .

Where did you store those? Now I have to visit my safety deposit box and see if my Octagons have toned.

Anyway, yes, it looks like you've got three 1.5 oz 2015 silver octagons. Mintages are listed HERE (scroll down to the section titled "2015 Clark Gruber & Co. Gold & Silver Rounds & Octagons").

Edit: AFAIK, all the 2015 1.5 oz silver Octagons have the "D" mintmark. If I'm wrong, maybe Dan will chime in.

Thanks, they were stored in the safe on top of the strips that I had and over the years everything toned.
All of the coins are toned now.

Doing the KotCT medals became quite a yearly undertaking when there were so many variations to make (different sizes, metals, finishes). At one point, a span of four years was covered by a single design dated "2012 - 2015" (all those "Dark Side" medals were produced in 2015). That basically gave me three years off (2012, 2013, 2014).

The last medals were produced for 2019. I have thought about a design dated "2020 - 2022" that I could produce this year. I have an idea for it and I may work on it this Spring.

I recall the ordering and shipping of so many different variations also became cumbersome. There was some talk of whether Dan could take over distribution via his website.

Do you recall that Dan, and is that something you could do?

I would be honored to have an official club following, although the present less-official conglomeration is fine too !

As for the name, if any such club is formed, "Dan Carr Club" is perhaps technically accurate, but pretty sparse in description.
Some people might wonder what it is for.

Maybe something like "DCMS" (Daniel Carr Mint Society).

Regardless of my suggestion, however, any name should be entirely chosen by the membership.

I handled all the ordering and individual shipping for the last (2019) issue via my on-line store. I might have also done that for 2018, but I don't remember.

Oh, I love the forums here and I certainly wouldn't want to set up another one!

What I'm thinking is we can use the CU Forums as our official meeting place, kind of like how some physical coin clubs meet at set locations.

But in addition to chatting here we can have:

    1. periodic in-person meetings at the Moonlight Mint which can coincide with the minting of an annual club medal with a wide variety of candidate subject matter what we can all discuss and participate in
    2. periodic online meetings where people give short talks and show off their coins
    3. a PDF journal with articles people are interested in. This can cover a variety of topics that are not currently covered in Dan's online catalog and website, not the least of which is all the great photos people have posted of rare pieces, including the Open House pieces! We can also submit copies to the NNP for archival and search purposes.

Anything done would be up to the membership of course.

I've been lucky enough to visit Dan's Moonlight Mint 3 times now and each time is an adventure. Thanks Dan! Others have said they would like to go as well. Imagine an annual meeting at the Moonlight Mint?

I think a Dan Carr Club would be cool too. I’ve thought about that too‼️If you come up with a club..... I want to join for sure‼️
I’ve been collecting coins since I was 5 or 6 years old, ever since my grand pappy asked if I’ve been cleaning my ears....... then pulled a silver dollar out of my ear,( I’m 67 now), and out of all those years, the funnest and most enjoyable time of my collecting has been since I found out about Dan and the Moonlight Mint‼️I’m retired now, and got into collecting more after I retired, but I missed a few years of following Dan when I was still working.Wish I had known about him when he started.
I think his stuff is way better and cooler than what the US Mint puts out,and no “on line” BS like the USMINT is famous for now‼️‼️‼️Dan Carr forever‼️‼️👍👍🎯🎯👀🎯🎯‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

I don’t know if anyone was watching or maybe someone here won it but it sure must be beautiful in hand.

The January 2022 NYINC Auction - Session C - World Coins Part 2 - Featuring Latin American & Cut, Countermarked & Overstruck Coinage - Lots 2001-2454
    Dec 16, 2021

    Lot #: 2335
Title: MEXICO. Gold Medallic Caballito Peso, "1907". Moonlight (Dan Carr) Mint. ANACS MS-70.
    Estimate: $6,000.00 - $8,000.00
Description: MEXICO. Gold Medallic Caballito Peso, "1907". Moonlight (Dan Carr) Mint. ANACS MS-70.

Mintage: 12. A Dan Carr production from the Moonlight Mint, with a modern imitation of the famous 'Caballito' design, overstruck on an 1947 Gold 50 Peso planchet. With the consultation of Allan Schein--author of Mexican Beauty/Belleza Mexicana - Un Peso Caballito this incredible modern fantasy came to life. The date of 1907 was chosen as it was the first year that this design appeared on a coin, albeit only on the 50 Centavos. As such this coin is considered to be a 'fantasy date overstrike'. The strike and preservation are flawless, with soft luster throughout and not a hint of toning. Overall this is a beautiful tribute to one of the most collectible type coins from Mexico.

    Estimate: $6,000 - $8,000.

More information can be found here. http://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-URWCE

These are beautiful coins! I've been wanting one but it wasn't me this time.

Here's the one that sold at FUN 2021 which has a bit more information in the description.

    https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-PL1Z9/mexico-gold-medallic-caballito-peso-1907-moonlight-dan-carr-mint-anacs-ms-70

MEXICO. Gold Medallic Caballito Peso, "1907". Moonlight (Dan Carr) Mint. ANACS MS-70.

Mintage: 12. Utilizing a 1947 50 Pesos restrike issue as the host (KM-481), this incredibly alluring and wondrous fantasy is the work of Dan Carr's Moonlight Mint and the consultation of Allan Schein--author of Mexican Beauty/Belleza Mexicana - Un Peso Caballito. Just 12 of these EXTREMELY RARE, engaging works of art were produced in December 2019, the dies having been faithfully based upon the original caballito issues with a few modifications in place in order to further enhance it aesthetically. Heating and re-softening the host allowed for the expansion of the planchet from 37mm to 39mm, with each then being struck four times at 400 tons of pressure in order to arrive at this enchanting end result. For the aficionado of the popular caballito series, exotic exonumia, or advanced gold issues, this example undoubtedly is a must and, given the paltry mintage and perfect designation, would not offer many opportunities to equal it.

Congrats and nice find. I know you were looking for one of those since they first came out (and sold out fast).

I have been wondering the same thing ever since I posted this one and the 1964D Franklin Proof DC also for a distributor (both done in Nov 2021).

I have watched the Chopper site but neither of these two have shown up there. Hopefully they surface soon. I really like both restrikes and would have bought them from DC if made available.
