Can't wait to find out the mintage of this one given the 7 min sellout in 2015.

Well, okay, I don't know if there's a real plat shortage, or if it's another "shortage" to drive up the (falling) prices...

    From coinworld:
Platinum shortfall increasing according to most recent projections

If I didn't have the 2015, I'd cross the 2016 off my list. But I have the 2015, and I think that it'd be lonely in that display case all by its lonesome... image

You know, if it didn't rain, I wouldn't care about the roof. BWAhahahaha....

    From coinnews.net:

2015-2016 Proof American Platinum Eagle Design Candidates

The preferred design for the 2016 was the pleasingly, scantily clad Liberty shown in AEP-R-07. image

Well, hopefully AFP-R-07 is chosen. It is a stunning design!
But, I wont hold my breath that the Mint will get it right

AEP-R-03, AEP-R-04, AEP-R-05 and AEP-R-06 depicts Liberty and an American bald eagle representing Freedom.

In designs 03, 04, and 05, Liberty encourages the eagle to take flight as an ambassador of democracy.

Design 06, a companion design to the previous three, shows Liberty continuing to nurture and sustain Freedom.

June 30th is my birthday, if anyone was planning on ordering one for me just let me know and I can send you my address. Thanks, BC

Excited. Design is nice and demand will be high.

If they HH limit it to 1, its another flippers paradise as well.

Anyone know of the mintage #'s yet? My guess is 6k, HH limit 1.

If it wasn't for the non spherical earth, (that thing is NOT round, no way the radius under the T meets with the other side) protruding into the obverse that the eagle appears to be launching off of, I'd go 9/10. Without the earth, the eagle would be in air, flopping / hover.

Remove the earth thingy. Clean field.

    Too late now.

Rather this is an 8/10 situation.

Will be in, good flip potential.

Either way, another coin, another woman on it. More PC stuff from the mint!

I don't see PC stuff when I see a depiction of liberty on the coin as the woman.

I see PC when I see a "famous" or "historical" woman that is forced on a coin. SBA. 1st Spouse coins. Sacagawea.

These look ok. Maybe the 1st platinum coin I purchase.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Wouldn't surprise me a bit. LOL.

I do think that the '15 plat is a fantastic issue. I love that coin.

The R-07 design is fantastic. If they actually mint it instead of some PC garbage it will be just an amazing coin. I'd be totally stoked about this plat subset. Fingers crossed but the PC police will likely kill it. Time will tell...

I really love such allegorical designs. In fact, my most expensive numismatic purchase is not a coin but a note. I laid out big $ for a very nice $5 Educational Series note specifically because I love the allegorical obverse design as well as the theme. The R-07 design kinda reminds me of the Educational series notes. I just can't believe that the Mint would actually mint such a fantastic design - it's just not PC enough.

The original intent was for the Platinum Eagle to be a bullion coin, like the Gold and Silver Eagles. Now it's become just a once-a-year low-mintage art fest. The swift market absorption of the one-off run of 2014 bullion plats shows that they are still popular. With investment demand still robust, why doesn't the Mint continue striking bullion Platinum Eagles?

Several posts seem to infer that the 06 design is an option. You've got very short memories - that's the design of the 2015 proofs...

Let me get this straight....a BULLION Platinum Coin is to be issued on June 30th, 2016 by the US Mint and they have not YET announced the final Die Design?

Yet, it is obvious that due to the extreme and unforgiving nature of minting proof platinum coins the dies have been prepared and are known internally by employees that work at the US Mint ?

This information has NOT yet leaked ??

Well, R06 and R07 were both recommended last year as the 2015/2016 APE proof.

They accepted and produced R06 last year, I would assume (there's that word) that R07 is still the version they'll do this year.

I'd have to think that with only 4 weeks left before release that they're already in production at West Point. They'd still have to be packaged and shipped to Memphis before the end of next month.

If they're still having sourcing problems, they may only make 4,000 this year. If they found a supplier, they could up that to 7,500, about the average they've sold over the past 15 years.

BTW, the 2017 APE proof design will go back to the original 1997 design for the 20th anniversary. The mint hasn't said if they'll be a special issue or finish for the 20th anniversary.

If it goes back to 2015, I'll go with these two, AEP-R-08, offset USOA and AEP-R-09, obverse / reverse

I am looking at that eagle reverse and really trying to find the arrows. Maybe I can't see so well? All I see are olive branches and/or maybe some type of oak leaf branch variant, but regardless, it has no arrows. This country needs to have arrows and modern improvements of them, or we will not exist. I vote against any coin without both sides of the story, military strength to try to avoid war, and symbols of peace.

I was fortunate enough to buy a 2015 proof platinum eagle before the sellout. This one looks like a winner too. Let's see what the mintage and hh order limit is going to be.

If spot plat is between $950 and $999.99 the APE proof will be $1350.

PM's are on a bull right now. Plat is up $35 in the past 7 days. Should it stay between $1000 and 1049.99 (approx $1010 right now), price goes up to $1400.

(Last year's was $1200, when plat was $845 spot.)
