What is so hard about buying the coin from the mint and having it directly shipped to your buyer from the mint? You make a hundred bucks for a few minutes work, make a few more bucks from your credit card give backs, and never have to even mail the coin to your buyer. I must be missing something here guys and don't say the mint won't do it because they sure will. I just pay for it and put my buyer down to receive the shipment, Works every time!
"SO IS IT SOLD OUT? "Currently Unavailable," the current status of the 2016-W coin, is explained by the Mint this way: "We are currently out of this item, but more may be available later. Provide your email using the 'REMIND ME' button and we will let you know when we are taking orders again."
Other notable statuses include:
Sold Out: When all inventory of products has been depleted, taking into account cancellations and other factors.
Back Order: When products are in “Back Order” status, this means that the product is available for sale; however, there is no inventory in stock and a future ship date is displayed on the Mintwebsite. "

Compared to gold, generic platinum looks pretty cheap.
The Mint-issued collector bullion - well, that's pretty dependent on collector demand vs. Mint premiums out of the gate.
Thus far, it does look like there is still fairly good support for collector bullion. Besides that, rising bullion is helpful. Congrats to all who got in the front door.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
7/1/16, 9:55 a.m.: Michael White of the Mint’s Office of Corporate Communications has shared the following statement regarding sales of the 2016 Platinum Proof Eagle: “At 12:56 p.m. EDT, June 30, the 2016 American Eagle One Ounce Platinum Proof Coin (16EJ) went into a ‘Currently Unavailable’ status after the Mint received orders totaling the entire mintage of 10,000. If the product is made available later to the public as the result of returns and cancellations, the most efficient way for interested customers to receive notification is through the use of the “Remind Me” feature on our Web site appearing on the product page.”
And there, you have it. They took an order for every coin available. Sold out.
not sure. If the Mint (hypothetically) received 500 improper orders, there might be hundreds of coins still left to sell and hence not sold out. We'll see soon enough I suspect.

exactly, 2015 saw 4000 orders, more than 100 "spoiled orders" resulted in a final audited total of about 3818 sales. They did not make those available. Many recall the early norning trickle of other "unavailable" items being "re-offered". Its safe to say sold out when they post it.
Mint waiting for number of returns ,cancelled orders ,declined CCs....for about $350 over melt... the 2016 Plat did pretty good..
$300 over this morning.
But yeah, there will plenty of returns ,cancelled orders ,declined CCs, etc. I'd expect at least 500 pieces to be available later this month at $1400 or maybe even $1450.
I'm also surprised they sold so many yesterday so quickly. It makes the 2015 issue look very cheap and desirable (not to mention earlier issues).
Thats kinda what I've been thinking as well.
Those that " got in the front door" include those that have been here since 2006 or earlier.
I made the mistake of being on the road in an area where there is no data network yesterday. Still, I don't see an issue of 10,000 garnering enough collector interest to warrant much panic buying.
I think that 2015 and the Gold Mercs managed to get the attention of the flipping community, and that's most of what we are seeing.
By the same token however, the last 6 or 7 years' Proof Plats don't seem to be all that plentiful on the aftermarket. Could it be that Plats are gaining a few more devotees?
Maybe...................
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
I was being a mechanic yesterday and will have to buy one (Platinum) on the aftermarket (if I want it)....just like the parts I needed for the car. You can't imagine how much higher it is buying it from the dealer vs. ______ (fill in the blank on the secondary market)

It sounds like you're trying to lawyer up.
Should you use your interpretation, then no product ever from the mint will sell out in one hour.

I think it was the flippers who pushed this coin. Based on history, there's only been one year in the past 15 that sold more than 10K coins.
Aftermarket sales will be the indicator. If flips go nowhere, then it wasn't the collector community who bought the coin.
How quickly did (roughly) 125,000 gold dimes sell out? And, giant submittors bought them for roughly a $35 - $45/coin premium to grade quantity. So, figure (conservatively) $245 for the cost of the coins (in big quantity), $20 to grade them (wholesale - way more of course for the guy with -10- dimes), $10 to ship them and ebay and paypal fees ($15 if you have the "1%" deal, which I do not have, but some do). Add that up and you get $290/coin cost for 70SP coins. Yet, we see HUNDREDS of PCGS-SP70FS coins selling on ebay for $260 - $270/coin! A loss of $25++/coin no matter how you slice it not even taking into account the (likely) bigger loss on the 69 graded coins.
My point ... buying Mint product today is not always about making any money whatsoever on the purchases (often just the opposite when the Mint product sells well). When I was buying the platinum coins at $1,455/coin from board members earlier in the week, many (who did not sell) felt that was way too low. And, in fact, we heard reports of some dealers paying $1,500+ for the coins. But, this is platinum we are talking about - historically very low grade through rates on proof platinum coins. Most of the coins (in prior years) are only 69 quality and that grade (2016's) are already selling at break even (or possibly even a slight loss to nearly everyone reading this who submits their one coin and gets a 69) on ebay and elsewhere. And, the PR70's are being offered 1 day later essentially much lower than I would have figured them for. I personally read nothing into the Mint selling 9,000+ proof platinum coins in an hour other than the "flipping game" (and major dealer activity) "gone wild". Prior year platinum coins have not moved virtually at all best I can tell. What I do believe will happen is that these 2016 proof platinum coins (other than the 70's) will move into the "scrap" proof platinum pile faster than any previous proof platinum coin ever did in distant memory. These may literally become "scrap" (i.e. generics) in the next week or two. Let's see....
As always, just my two cents.

I dont know why it surprises me that people are in such a hurry to trash this issue after a fast sellout, but it does. 56 minute sellout, followed by a brief celebratory toast, and then people slam it as being a flop. Geez! Is this what coin collecting has become? If you cant double your money 5 minutes after a sale, it's a wasted effort? A flop? It would seem that blowing through 10,000 1oz platinum coins in an hour would excite people, but just the opposite has happened. Maybe some of it is just dealers trying to crap on the issue, so they can buy lower. Who knows. I didnt think this would be a great buy with the high mintage, but I bought one anyway as the bug bit me in the eleventh hour. Didnt want to be on the sidelines when the whistle blew. I like the design. Hold or sell, I'm still happy I hit the button on Thursday.

Just decided to cancel one of my two orders for the 2016 Platinum Proof. I was going to sell the second coin, but seeing what is occurring in the after market, it wasn't worth about $100 for the trouble. Planning to keep second coin.
Even if I were planning on sending extras back I'd take delivery of them all so I could cherry pick the best keeper(s). Worth the return shippping costs. Also gives a little time to C how the market goes.

I doubt UPS picks her up today. If they do, you will see tracking info.
They picked it up. Tracking says it departed Memphis, but that just mean it might be on a truck in the loading dock.
It should be here Wednesday. If it's actually on a truck that left Memphis, then I might get it Tuesday.

You're posting this in the flipper-hate phase of a product thread. They occur right after a very high mintage is announced, or after-market sales go nowhere.
If you wait a few days for the coin to get into the hands of those who ordered it for the coin, then the threads usually become much more positive. Usually.
Having played with the plats in 2008 (shoulda went went Buff gold instead) it was quite an experiment in breaking exactly even...multiple sets, speed shipping, speed grading, and were it not for 1 lone 70 grade, I might have lost a few bucks. The mintage on the 2016 keeps it at same ole sandwich and regardless of the wrapper, it's still the same ole sandwich.
Scored 2/5 PCGS PR70DCAM plats in 2009 and did very well. All 5 looked like they had a shot at 70 and I was happy to get the 2 I did. As I recall they bought $2k+ each.

Surprised at the hand wringing for the 2016 Plat ..my friend sold Lot of 10 2016 Plats at Retail
Too bad it's not coming next day. I'd like to see what the real-time tracking looks like.
Got a tracking number, but UPS knows nothing of it yet. Hopefully it gets on a truck today so I'll know what day next week I have to be home.

I doubt UPS picks her up today. If they do, you will see tracking info.

My order number and my friend's order number was 1311 apart from each other. I ordered later than him, but my order has a shipped status and his is still processing. I ordered from the mint before, but it's my friends first time.
I guess you have never seen Bullsitter's Mint Shipping Wheel. It determines when orders are shipped.

Just decided to cancel one of my two orders for the 2016 Platinum Proof. I was going to sell the second coin, but seeing what is occurring in the after market, it wasn't worth about $100 for the trouble. Planning to keep second coin.

That's good news for the Mint -- they'll likely profit from your cancellation.
Platinum prices are up -- $1050+ and climbing.
So, next week if the Mint re-sells cancelled orders like yours, I'm guessing the price
will be $1400. Maybe $1450.

LOL ..Mint now pricing their products higher, to takeaway most of the easy made by flippers in the past.. Those expecting fast ,easy money should take note

They picked it up. Tracking says it departed Memphis, but that just mean it might be on a truck in the loading dock.
It should be here Wednesday. If it's actually on a truck that left Memphis, then I might get it Tuesday.
I may have to go to the SDB and pick up her sister for a family portrait...
I dont know why it surprises me that people are in such a hurry to trash this issue after a fast sellout, but it does. 56 minute sellout, followed by a brief celebratory toast, and then people slam it as being a flop.

These are DOA for the flippers.
Yup.

What if Pt hits $1200 this month??
