52T Mantle being referred to as his 'rookie' by investors, when all collectors know it's the 51B. That really grinds my gears.

Nuts ! You would think they would make a holder that fits the box.

    Estil, you need glasses bigger.

Or maybe switch to Coke bottle glasses. Much nicer glasses, I hear.

Bought a card off eBay, a raw and fairly rare one at that, only to receive it in a plain white envelope. This is the second time it has happened to me when I have purchased items that couldn't be replaced. Previously I bought a 1989 Cubs Canon Greg Maddux, one of only 2 known to exist, and this is what it arrived in:

I find this happens most often when someone is advertising free shipping in their listing. Sellers who offer free shipping and don't offset it by sending as cheaply as they can are a minority. I think nearly everyone would rather be charged a few bucks for safe shipping w/ tracking as opposed to being offered free shipping and not know whether the item will arrive unprotected in a PWE.

The sad thing is that in each listing the shipping charge was in the $3 range, so there was no reason for alarm at the time of purchase. Each package arrived with tracking as well, they were more concerned with protecting themselves than the card. lol The latest even had a non-machinable stamp, so luckily it wasn't damaged by being stuck in a sorter.

I would contact the seller immediately after purchase and tell them to please use a bubble-mailer or box as it is a fairly rare card.

Those Numbers and/or letters you have to type in to prove you are a human and not another computer. The dang things are all twisted, upside down, or mutilated in some way which makes them virtually un-readable.

  • EstilEstil Posts: 7,083 ✭✭✭✭
IOW, if it's hard for a human to read, it's that much harder for a computer to do so since (even now in 2016) still cannot think, reason and such on its own. Annoying, yes. But it's doing its job.

Here is the card referenced in a previous post, Greg Maddux International Refractor shipped in a pwe.

  • It's not quite a peeve but confusion. Why some bids are higher on PWCC right now for the exact same card with lower BINs on ebay? Some aren't even centered as well and still have higher bids. The ones I'm looking at the quality is obviouslylower than the ones with a BIN. Even to me. It's not like they're not using ebay to bid on PWCC. Whatever. A fool and his money.

Summary: Why some people bid more to an AH (PWCC) when a better quality card has a cheaper BIN on ebay? (Head nod emoji)

Aargh. Forget grader-of-death; I think my new complaint/vent/peeve for this thread is the grader-of-laziness. After waiting a while (actually only 60 business days, which is much quicker than lots of my orders have been taking lately, so relatively quick poppage I suppose) for one of my pending orders to be completed, I noticed over the weekend that the results were in but luckily it hadn't gone to the shipping department yet. Out of the 104 items in the order, 9 were graded and 95 received N9. Sure, some of them were some of the more obscure variety that I tend to sub where it takes a few cycles before they are graded, but the majority of the N9's were items that are regularly published in the Beckett Hockey Annual (mostly 1969-1989 Russian postcards), and there are some of them already graded and in the pop reports, so the data is at the fingertips of the research department without trouble. I called and also emailed first thing this morning to request a hold on the shipment until the order was sent back through the grading dept. and the problem resolved such that they were graded, and was assured by their problem order dept. that someone would be getting back to me with an update on the matter. No call, no email, then after closing time there, I receive an email saying that my order has shipped. Frustrated that 3 months was not enough time for the grader to bother looking up readily available published data on items they already grade, as well as that the customer service reps dropped the ball IMO too. Annoying that it was one of my supersize holder orders that don't come up on special very often either, so not sure how many months it will be until the grade price per card will be offered again.

Good to hear! image Similar experience recently with 3 cards in my most recent poppage, submitter got the order held to be fixed and they were, kind of, but still have to send all 3 back for Mech Errors. Think there was another pair of cards in swapped holders as well.

I was a semi-regular, always-fast-paying customer of PWCC. Once, I spoke negatively about them on this forum for activity that seemed shady. Instead of them/he addressing me directly, he/they tracked down and linked my forum name to my eBay account and blocked me... it's been a couple years now... I still cannot bid on their auctions, but my inbox still gets slammed with their spam.

In the long run, I've probably saved several thousands of dollars not bidding (and being shilled up) on their auctions... WIN, WIN!

Thats crazy but someone on here probably outed you out. Either way, you mentioned that you spoke negatively about them openly on here about activity that seemed shady but then you get upset that they didnt call you directly when they had a problem with you. Did you catch that? Not taking sides. Just observing.

Who said I was upset??? I actually find it extremely comical!

Brent was a somewhat active forum member at the time. I still stand by what I said in the thread. In that thread, I also gave them praise and noted how I have bought from them many, many times without issue. What I said was only negative because it painted at least some truth on something shady they appeared to be doing. All I know, was shortly after, what I brought up, seemed to stop with their listings almost completely. He never took accountability for what I and others pointed out... yet it stopped... coincidence???

As for contacting me directly... I wasn't looking for a call. He was active on the forums. He was active in that thread. He didn't respond to me directly in the thread, nor did he attempt to contact me via PM to sort things out. He simply figured out what my eBay ID was and blocked it. I've got my opinions of what kind of person acts that way... but you can judge for yourself!
  • Dont get so offended. Your use of questions marks one after another along with your exclamation point leads me to believe that you probably were. Honestly, it's really not even a big deal to me. I am just observing what you wrote and again, I am saying that you could have also contacted him through a PM on these boards just like you hoped he would have contacted you. I see your point and I see his. It works both ways.
