Thanks Brad, I was waiting a while for my felt to arrive and so I finally finished up this one as well. It was made out of A wood called Monkey Pod.

Excited to get my second piece of artwork from Mike in just a few days. It's kind of addicting, like tattoos. You get your first and you just want more! Amazing work as always!

Hey Mikey, I just sent you a message.

I just wanted to share the new business that’s opening up. I figured I love working with wood, and now have a little more time on my hands, so why not just open a business doing things I truly enjoy collecting and working with wood lol. I hope everyone is doing good?

    Hiya Mike

Best of luck with your new business buddy.

Was the fee zero for being retired military?

Yes, one of the little perks for California, even though they love taxing my retirement.

Just saw this. Good luck and have fun. I hope to do this exact thing some day.

I'm in California as well, but not retired military so I will have to pay :)

    That's cruel.

I have my military check spent before it arrives.

I know what you mean mike, it’s not that much overall a huge pay cut. Was rated with the VA at 80% so helps a little.

Kris, woodworking is always a great hobby and relaxing, love all the variety of woods and the smell. Have to talk sometime and go over ideas.

A new home for a prized set holding little over 540 cards. I can’t wait to see the outcome.

I think the deep maroon/purple lining chosen complements these boxes perfectly!

Beautiful work. I love the pens you made. I took a couple of classes to learn to turn pens. It didn't go well!

    Great work!

Congrats on the business license and best of luck with doing something you love.

    Enjoy your collection!

Thanks Erba, yes took me awhile for the pens but finally got the Nitch, it’s mostly about the attention to detail around the bushings.

Thank you estang, cross the fingers it goes good :) either way I get to build stuff and it’s usually always something a little different.

I’m sooo glad to have my shop up and running for the most part. Still have some tweaking to do and install my dust collection system but couldn’t wait to start making something. I did however bring with me some of the woods from the Hawaiian Islands since it was free to ship it, so I completely took advantage of it.
Since I haven’t posted a picture in awhile here is something that I’m finishing up. It’s a new home for a portrait of Ty Cobb Along with a signed check that will be underneath. It will overall have holders to place the items in and 100% UV protected, no glare Plexy Glass, the wood is called Monkey Pod from Hawaii. I’m glad to be back :)

Well a something a little different. So one of my good friends is a WWII veteran. So I acquired some original Teak deck from another friend of mine from the USS Missouri from 1944 and presented the gifts to him. It’s speechless the honor that he presented when the gifts were in his hand.

This is a Old Growth Black Walnut Fire Mantle that I’m finishing up. This thing weighs almost 40lbs lol

Wow - not the type of Mantle we usually see on these boards - but that is great work. That will make a fireplace that anyone would be proud to have.

  • lilmulelilmule Posts: 999 ✭✭✭✭

I know Brad lol but almost as expensive :)

I look forward to seeing Mike set up at the Chicago National in 2021 selling storage boxes and going home with a slew of orders for more!
Now, I haven't heard this is going to happen, but in truly, just world, that would be exactly what happens.

Thank you all for the kind words about my work and really happy that you guys/girls enjoy the pictures. About the Nationals in 2021 that’s still a goal but One thing I need to do is build inventory so we’ll see if I have time to make some :). I know for sign ups for the tables are around a year in advance and pretty expensive, but would love to meet some of you there at the table :)

Yeah I get that a lot actually so feel free to use Jason lol

On the topic of boxes, I have been struggling to find storage for a 48-card set of tall boys. Any chance you are taking orders?

  • brad31brad31 Posts: 2,783 ✭✭✭✭✭

Didn’t realize you were at the National. Must have run out of $ before I made it to your booth. Love how you customized that one for the tall boys to fit as well. Very cool.

  • lilmulelilmule Posts: 999 ✭✭✭✭

    Yes, just message me Jason.

Brad I haven’t been to the nationals yet to sell boxes, that’s the plan I’m the year 2021 in Chicago we’ll crossing my fingers.

It fits perfect, that’s awesome to see. When you don’t have the items and have to base everything off a size of a card it’s kind of a booger lol

I want something else made. Problem is, I don't really NEED anything. I have to come up with something soon so I can get another MD original. Always enjoy seeing your work. That box for graded packs is a beast and I really like it. If only I had a more graded packs to warrant a box like that. I'll come up with something that I don't need. My wife will confirm that never seems to be a problem for me!

I’m laughing at your comment, need something made but not sure what though lol. Well I’m starting to rebuild a apple press maybe that lol. Overall I’m confident you will find something and challenge me :)

Thank you erba. Where does that name come from?

    It's my last name.

I took a pen making class at my local Rockler a few weeks ago and love it. I've made 3 pens in the last couple of years. I want to buy a lathe and all the toys to go with it and start making them. I'm just trying to figure out if I have time to justify buying everything needed to do them.

  • lilmulelilmule Posts: 999 ✭✭✭✭

Pens are fun to make but as you know take a little time and a lot of attention to detail. As far as buying everything, it does get really expensive a lot of little parts added with the bigger stuff. It’s always a continuous expense with the sandpaper, finish etc... But it is fun though.
