One thing out of the ordinary to watch. How many times do they show Saban's personal assistant(but no one notices him) he is a bald black guy that is always within 5 feet of Saban. Also he always has the same State trooper with him named Andy. I'm personal friends with one of the Team security guys and during games we play an offset of Where is Waldo trying to locate him on the sidelines. RTR

So Stanford didn't play Stanford football for 2 games, including an awful loss to a not-very-good NW team, and OSU's only loss was to a playoff team, yet the Trees are ranked higher. And on a neutral field, OSU just obliterated the same team they needed a last-second FG to beat at home. This makes perfect sense
IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED
Of all the teams not invited to the tournament I believe Ohio State followed closely by Stanford are the teams most able to have won it all. I would like them to go to an 8 team tournament. This would negate somewhat the importance of "when" you lost a game. I think Alabama would have most likely still won it all. But in truth everyone knew what they had to do. Alabama did it. It is time to stop the "what ifs" and congratulate the Champions of 2015.

Well said. However, if we went 8 who would the 8 have been this year?
Clemson Alabama OK Michigan State Ohio State Stanford + 2 ?????
Iowa? ND? TCU? Houston? Ole Miss? UNC? Baylor? FSU?
I demand a recount! The ESPN way-too-early top 25 has THE Ohio State at 12th. What the...!?!? Must be an error. I am killing my ESPN subscription. All of it. TV, magazine and website!
Returning starters: 4 offense, 4 defense, 2 special teams
Key losses: RB Ezekiel Elliott, OT Taylor Decker, C Jacoby Boren, WR Braxton Miller, DE Joey Bosa, LB Darron Lee, LB Joshua Perry, S Tyvis Powell, WR Michael Thomas, S Vonn Bell
Outlook: After coming up short in its quest to win back-to-back national championships, Ohio State is going to have major reloading jobs on both sides of the ball. In fact, the Buckeyes might actually take a step back for the first time under coach Urban Meyer. At least nine juniors -- including star tailback Elliott, defensive end Bosa and backup quarterback Cardale Jones -- have announced they're leaving early for the NFL draft. The Buckeyes will play a difficult road schedule, including a nonconference game at Oklahoma and trips to Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan State.
Looking at the final rankings I don't see any team past the top eight with a snowballs chance in Hades. Of course this is after the bowl games when hindsight is 20-20. My son would like to see a 16 team tournament which I believe is a bit too much and still #17 would complain. They could do like the NCAA Basketball tournament and have a play-in game between #7 and 10, and #8 plays 9. That gets the entire top 10 in and also allows conferences with multiple outstanding teams to showcase them.

I won't be happy until they take ALL conference champions. That would encourage playing great non-conference games because they don't count in the conference standings. Especially if you had at-large teams. But at a minimum, take all conference champions with a MAC-Sun Belt playoff game if you need to make symmetrical.
Looking at the final Top 10, I would make the following changes:
I think I would have MSU at #4 and bump OSU and OU down. They beat OSU and finished ahead in the standings based on that win, they deserve the better ranking.
#7 is WAY too high for TCU. I'd have Ole Miss at #7, 8) Houston 9) Michigan 10) Notre Dame
Eyeballing the rest of the Top 25, Tennessee is WAY too low. I'd have them ahead of all the teams up to and through LSU.

Ya, I was a little surprised by that low ranking myself. Of course it's just one man's opinion so is what it is. I do realize they are losing a ton of players but they will replace them. Professional teams tend to keep it up year in and year out.
I attended the Rose Bowl game, and can vouch for Stanford being an excellent football team, however, very capable of the few mental or physical lapses which cost them a shot at the Final 4. They would have been more challenged by Ohio State without a doubt. Iowa was shellshocked the moment the Trees unleashed McCaffrey.
Bests of the episode included a Hawkeye fan who stood up in the midst of the Cardinal faithful at 35-0 and hollered "Give us a bleeping 9 a.m. kickoff and meet us at Northwestern!!!" The crowd howled with laughter. After the game we were walking back to the parking lot while dressed in our Stanford gear and a female Hawkeye fan interrupted her depressing journey to the fan shuttle bus so she could holler at us that our band sucked and they were pathetic. We thanked her profusely.
There were so many good teams this season, it's tough to find an excuse for the outcome. The best team stood up at the end and the what-ifs will fade into the past.

That's funny. Of all things the Stanford band is pretty great. That sounds like a sore loser! I went to the UCLA v. Iowa Rose Bowl in 1986. Iowa was favored but UCLA beat them almost as bad as Stanford did this year. Iowa might want to reconsider accepting their next Rose Bowl invite!
My hats off to Clemson, they played a great game. They are a very young team and will make plenty of noise in '16. Watson is a hell of a player.Coach Dabo played on the 1992 Bama National Championship team and I really felt bad for him. Again, a great game for college football.

One would think OSU fans would be more concerned about winning Big Ten Championships rather where they end up ranked preseason or otherwise. Ohio State has won exactly one Big Ten Championship since the B1G playoff format was adopted 5 years ago.Gonna be impossible to win a National Championship without winning your own conference now a days.

Actually they have won 2 because they went undefeated in 2012, but they had to take Wisconsin because of the post season suspension over the tattoos.
And by the way Alabama won a national title without winning their own conference. So winning the conference does not equal best team.

So you are crediting your self with winning a conference championship game without actually playing in it? And you wonder why nobody takes you seriously in this forum. So I was right they only won one. Got it. You can't win a championship game if you didn't play in it.
I know Alabama has and but that's not what I said. It's going to be extremely unlikely to win a national championship under the new format without winning your conference championship. It's going to be next to impossible to crack the top four if you don't.

This is a good point which begs a question: With only four spots in the playoff and five conferences that get considered, why not just admit it's lacking and expand the format??

Not shabby at all. Face it, Michigan hasn't been very good. That is changing. Penn State hasn't been and won't be good for awhile. Their probation and sanctions were justifiably more severe then Ohio State's.
Fact reminds that OSU has only won one Big Ten Championship under Meyer even with that gaudy record. It's not debatable. It is of course fact. You of course in your usual fashion deflected the obvious. Both Michigan State and Wisconsin have won 2 titles each since the inception of the Big Ten playoff format.

8. Wisconsin - They had that huge bowl game win against 6 loss U$C

IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

So you are crediting your self with winning a conference championship game without actually playing in it? And you wonder why nobody takes you seriously in this forum. So I was right they only won one. Got it. You can't win a championship game if you didn't play in it.
I know Alabama has and but that's not what I said. It's going to be extremely unlikely to win a national championship under the new format without winning your conference championship. It's going to be next to impossible to crack the top four if you don't.

They would've won it easily that year. They finished #3 in the nation without playing in a conference game.

This is a good point which begs a question: With only four spots in the playoff and five conferences that get considered, why not just admit it's lacking and expand the format??

Urban is 50-4 as the Ohio State coach. 4-0 vs Michigan. 1-0 vs Notre Dame. 1-0 vs Alabama. Cant do much better than that.
It is great. Take away those pesky losses to MSU and Clemson and it's just about perfect. That and the fact they have won only one Big Ten Championship.

One is more than almost all the other teams in the Big 10 including Michigan and Penn State.
Ohio State has finished in the top 4 in the country 3 out of the last 4 years. Not too shabby.
