So happy that this finally arrived, it only took USPS 15 days to get it to AZ from MI. I was working out a BST deal with a board member and he mentioned this card would be going up for auction soon, so I made an offer hoping to prevent that from happening Grade did not matter on this one, it's the only one in a PSA slab and extremely difficult to find. Other than a Sportscaster, which I know many hate over-sized rookies, it's one of three 79 rookie issues...

Finding one is hard, but most of the cards from this set have damage on back from album removal, and will typically grade 1, 1.5, or 2 if you're lucky.
I bought a poorly titled lot of Pelicans cards that had some REALLY nice Anthony Davis cards. In the upper left is AD's Panini card from the National.
I've slowly been stockpiling Davis cards - if he isn't the best player in the NBA by the end of next year, he'll be damned close:
Some Saints backup QBs. Both Griffin and Grayson looked really good in Week 1 of the preseason. At some point, they'll need to find a successor to Brees:
Two Drew Brees cards from the National:
Some A&G buybacks of Ben Sheets: (Ben and I went to high school together.)
Joseph - WOW, those were some sweet pickups of some real nice vintage cards.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
It's been a busy month for me so I'm just getting around to enjoying my National pickups. After two years of acquiring major Browns pickups at the National, this year was a little bit less exciting in that respect. No major pickups, but I regret not grabbing that 1986 FB wax box from Steve on Wednesday when I first saw it. That could have been my major for this year.
I did pick up 6 new Kahn's cards as my only Browns purchases this year...
My only goal was for complete my 1953 Bowman Football raw set. I needed two, but I picked up 5 upgrades as well. The Ted below doesn't compare the PSA 10 I saw at the show. One of only 2 PSA 10 ever graded for the 1953 set!
I also started a 1950 Bowman Football raw set this year, so I made a major dent in that set with quite a few commons...
Lastly, I did rip a 78 FB wax, 81 FB cello and a '86 FB cello at the show with no major hits.
I also picked up a few FB packs to take home for a rainy day: '75 wax, '79 cello, 2 more '81 cellos, '84 cello, 4 '85 wax and another '86 cello.
It was nice to see a few familiar faces and meet a few new ones this year as well. That's becoming a more enjoyable part of going to the National!
This thread has been awesome!! I am making my second addition to the thread after a trip to the baseball card exchange yesterday.....Picked up a few items...
Got this nicely centered Nellie Fox for my 1956 topps set...
Picked up some junk wax, an 84 donruss rack pack, and an 83 fleer jumbo cello pack to satisfy my ripping appetite
The big purchase was something my dad and I have been wanting for a while....an 86 topps football rack box. Steve mentioned that he had gotten in a few nice boxes that had not been pieced together. Upon checking the boxes, it was noted that there was a Young rookie on top of one, and a Rice rookie on the bottom of another. I wonder if mine is one of them? Probably will never find out
These racks were purchased from board members over the past year. I wanted to display them so Steve graciously wrapped them for me while I was there..
Another top notch experience at the store. I'm amazed that I've only met Steve a few times but he remembers my name and always takes a few minutes to talk to me. He even got to meet my son Cooper for the first time. It was his first indiana experience...Steve thought he should be a hoosier fan
Thanks for letting me share...and keep the posts coming!
Scott, I loves me some 50's Bowman... in fact, I am working on all of the sets, but 1950 is by far my favorite. You have quite a few stars and semi-stars in that stellar lot.
JMB, that 1934 Gehrig looks very sharp... why only a PSA 4 on that?
I finally broke out the camera to share a few of my August pick ups, starting with the box I needed to complete my 40 year run of Topps wax/foil boxes (at least it will be once I pick up a box of the recently released 2015 Topps). While I didn't go to the National, someone took a picture of BBCE's booth and as soon as I saw the 1976 Topps box, I reached out to Steve to snag it:
I also spotted this in the same picture and picked it up as well... still need the 1980 Topps Cello box to complete my run though:
And, of course, I couldn't contribute to a pick up thread without some Sweetness, starting with a Chicago Bulls / Gatorade mini basketball to go along with his signed baseball & bat. Anyone have a Sweetness signed hockey puck?
Finally, an autographed copy of "Pure Payton":
I'll have to fire up the scanner for the rest of my August pick ups.
<< <i>Its really hard to comment on everyone stuff, I feel bad that I don't individually call out everyone, but its so hard with all the stuff being acquired. Congrats to you all on the recent pickups. >>
+1, I feel the same way. Incredible cardboard all around! >>
+2 there must be like 30 items I wanted to comment on since my last post. Awesome stuff guys!
Got a couple 70s postcards today, first one's pretty obvious and the other is Sam Snead.
The Palmer one was used to advertise the opening of King of Cones Custard Stand at the Palmer Driving Range and includes a free sundae offer through June 30, 1972 so I'm guessing that was the year of issue. Not sure on the exact year of the Snead.
Have been wanting to pick up an Old Judge to add to my collection. Just think it's cool that the cards are almost 130 years old. Received it today from the recent LOTG auction. A bonus is that it is a New York player ... falls in line with my new endeavor of collecting T206 cards of New York players.

I'm working on several different player registries, so there's rarely a shortage of cards to look for. But when those players also happen to be major 50-60s era HOFers and I'm working with a budget, I find myself happy to scoop some perceived bargains that have strong to acceptable eye appeal, so that I can overpay if necessary for others.
These two fit the perceived bargain vs. acceptable eye appeal ratio category just fine for me.
But then you have this one...which popped up in a late night search the other day as a BIN. I pretty much knew at sight I'd be buying it. But did my due diligence, and even though it was a bit over VCP and a touch more than I'd hoped to pay, I'd looked at so many others that paled in comparison, it only took a minute to go back and complete as I feel it's presentation far outweighs it's technical grade. In hand it's even nicer. Very happy with this one.
52-90 All Sports, Mostly Topps, Mostly HOF, and some assorted wax.
The following is nothing like the beauties posted earlier on this page, but.....
I mentioned in another thread that I was on vacation in the middle of nowhere for the past couple of weeks. When I'm there, I visit a guy's card shop he runs out of his house. Packed wall to wall with stuff, but I always gravitate to his "M.A.S.H. box." The cards are beaters, but they're cheap and it's mostly vintage with a lot of star power. I bought quite a few cards, but here are the highlights. Basically every card you see here was 50 cents or a dollar.
That's my first '51 Topps and my first '66 Topps Rub-Off. I've said before that I love vintage league leaders cards and I'm really digging the Elston too.
The hockey card is a Cheevers and the Sanders is his RC.
Just picked this up~1973 Topps baseball 1st series cello pack. I know the 73 set is not a very popular one, but I love the horizontal action shots in this set and the gold & black backs.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Trying to get this in under the wire. I've had a busy month since the National but here is what I was able to pick up this year. Some of this stuff was purchased before the show and held by Steve (group purchases) and other was just picked up (See anything familiar Tim ) It was great to finally meet many of you at the National at Steve's booth this year. I also wanted to give CPA Mike a big thank you for helping me take a bunch of this stuff to my car. I had no worries that any of it would end up opened by the end of our trip even with multiple rest stops Thanks Mike.
Beautiful assortment of cards and packs~congrats on assembling a very impressive collection!

49ers Super Bowl tickets (impulse buys)
