Kind of small potatoes after seeing that mini box that you are going to rip! Good Luck.

Yesterday I received the 14 cards that I purchased from a gentleman in Florida. Unfortunately he sent me the Bill Mazeroski instead of the Dick Stuart. I sent him an email, he apologized and will be sending the Stuart out tomorrow. (The line on the bottom right of the Drysdale is on the slab.)

nice stand ups, doug! digging them more and more every time i see them...your's present very nicely for 4s-6s

Went to my first baseball card show in over 20 years today. All the vendors look the same, just the cards were quite different. It was mostly either 40's/50's/60's or that new stuff I have no idea about. The 50's and 60's cards were really impressive. Lots of high end cards, but most of them weren't graded. I kind of thought they would be. Not much 70's stuff there though. Grabbed this lot from a few vendors all totaling about a hundred. Not bad. It was certainly fun.

Thanks Dan. After the Stuart comes in the mail, I need these 4 to finish the set:

    40 Sandy Koufax
    45 Mickey Mantle
    46 Juan Marichal
    63 Frank Robinson

Those Stand-Ups have a lot of charm and flavor-- great looking pieces.

I'm feeling those Peanuts cards-- I often feel like Charlie Brown, and that Life is like Lucy yanking that ball away from me time and again image !

The 65 Hank is actually pretty top percentile for those pesky 65s. I always look for Rose and Mantle 65s, and have only found one of each in years of daily searching that were really squared up. 65s and 69s are similar in their brutality in that regard.

yes, i've found that the rounded borders of the 65 series make the tilts appear much worse than they actually are.

speaking of rose...i've had this one for years, but one of the best 65 rose i've ever stumbled across:

Simply put: that's the best 65 Rose I've ever seen.

I've only found one with top notch centering like that, but it didn't have those mint corners-- upside was it only ran like $30 and totally scratched my 65 Rose itch.

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum and wanted to share my latest pickup. I've moved away from cards because I feel the market is out of control with pricing of high end cards. It's amazing what cards are going for. I've sold a lot of my bigger cards the last few months and have moved to game used / auto pieces that are rarer then your normal auto / game use items.

It's amazing to see everyone's pickups. Doug love the 64 Stand ups, I'm glad the Maz fits nicely in your collection. Cree... I do like the Foot Locker Deion card. Begsu.... Super nice Rose and Aaron.

You either love or hate him for his PED use in the late 90's early 2000's, but you can't deny his greatness. The best pure hitting I have ever seen regardless of PED use. As a die-hard Pirates fan Bonds was my guy especially when I was in high school. He burst onto the scene on May 30th 1986 during my sophomore year. As a teenager in high school I watched Bonds and other players wear their own cartoon likeness wristband during games. I thought those wristbands were the coolest things I ever saw. I always wanted one in my collection. I was very fortunate to pick up a game used wrist band that Bonds wore during the '91 and 92 season.I know there's a lot of irony with these bands with the "Say No To Drugs" slogan. Please try not to hammer me too badly. image

    image

They started making the wristbands again last year, so I picked up a McCutchen.

That's a sweet wrist band Bobby. How freaking long is that thing?

New Pickup... Despite the slight tilt on the card, I was focused on the image quality, lack of typical print dots and overall eye appeal of the card and scarfed this one up.

It's cool to see folks get cards they've long been after. I had the opposite experience today, where I bought two cards it hadn't occurred to me to look for and probably never would have, at least for these exact cards. Went to the local shop to get some supplies and ran across these for a good price. Just couldn't pass them up. My first autos of two favorites and all time greats.

    imageimage

Also, I finally won a PWCC auction and the card arrived today.

I was out of town for a good part of last week so a big mail day when we got home Sunday.

    First off...

Stadium giveaway last Friday night (I believe that was the night) and I knew I had to have one.

    image

Next up are additions to my 03 Topps Traded Brian McCann rainbow I'm working on. The refractor will be sent off with the gold version I picked up a few weeks ago during my next renewal submission.

    image

    image

Finally, with the last ebay bucks offer plus a $5 coupon code I was sent I picked this up for my HOF catchers collection:

JWBlue - I think the slight diamond cut and chipping on the right edge keeps it out of a "10" HOLDER. However, I LOVE the centering ... card is AWESOME!!!

Gator - Real nice pickups. LUV the Ryan.

    Hi Bobby and Matt!
  • DanBessetteDanBessette Posts: 6,421 ✭✭✭
I think the 1969 bench and Ryan cards are way under appreciated in the hobby. The first solo cards of 2 of the best ever. Yours is a great copy of the Bench. I love the half grades!
  • mattyc_collectionmattyc_collection Posts: 2,127 ✭✭✭✭✭
Agree on the 69s of Bench and Ryan-- two of the very first cards I chased down after college. Ditto for 74 Schmidt and 79 Molitor. A first solo card after a multi-face RC is special. Even moreso when the card and picture used is so pretty.

The eBay card Gods smiled on me this morning. My usual coffee browse yielded this. It was a BIN that probably lasted all of ten seconds after being listed image

Didn't Seaver have to share his RC too? If so, his 2nd year solo act should be on the list.

Edited to add: and the 73 Fisk
  • mattyc_collectionmattyc_collection Posts: 2,127 ✭✭✭✭✭
Indeed; didn't mean for that off-the-cuff riff to be comprehensive. 68 Carew, 64 Rose, 71 Munson, 76 Carter, Rice, and Lynn, 67 Carlton, 79 Murphy also come to mind at the moment as personal favorites. I think there was a whole thread on the topic of such cards done many years ago, if I recall correctly. Will have to try and dig it up after work.

Was shopping on a tight budget for a 7-7.5 for this card, so knew there would be a flaw. Happened upon this example with no black line, centered perforations, and liked how the PD serendipitously avoided the players' faces.

That's a diesel hoops score. And how did I forget to mention the Munson bobble head?? I love bobbleheads and that's a great looking one!
  • Hi all, love this thread, great additions everyone. Let's see if I remember how to post, I haven't done so in about a year after leaving the hobby. Here are the first two purchases forming my possible re-entry. I'm looking to keep focused this time with wax packs only.

First up, a Mantle showing pack which makes the low grade acceptable. Something I never thought I would be able to obtain.
    image[/URL]

Had my eye on this one for sometime, set my snipe and just barley won it. Ouch that weak Canadian dollar sure makes purchases hard to swallow with a 20% premium added on.

Calgarycollector, those packs are incredible! Great stuff all over this thread.

My contribution tonight are some hoops legends. First, I finally officially completed my 1961 Fleer BK set in PSA 7 or better by upgrading my final card, and the last card in the set. I have been waiting a while to upgrade this card. I wanted to be patient and make sure the last card I get in the set is a worthy, high end addition, especially since it is a card of a HOFer. I finally saw a nice copy of the card and messaged the seller and he agreed to an off eBay deal that got me this card for $50 less than the one sold in the most recent PWCC auction. I am biased, but IMO, my card is a little nicer with definitely better centering (this card and this set is super tough to find centered). Then since finishing my 61 Fleer set a few months ago, I have been slowly buying up PSA 9's to complete a 1986 Fleer set. This is my current registry set project. I won't bore you with the commons on this thread, even the low pop ones (I will probably start a new thread to chronicle that project). But I have just nabbed a couple nice HOF RC's. I've also got one more biggie that should get to me in time for June!
