it's actually a post card, so don't know...I don't think I'd ever have it graded because I don't know if it would fit in the back of my truck should it get holdered! ; )
Picked up these autos from your friend and mine, Douglas. I'm keeping one for a future red flip sub and giving one to each of my sons. We got to meet Dawson in Cooperstown last May. Thanks Doug!
Mike--Love that ash tray. Were you in San Francisco? I used to pass that bar all the time as a kid. Always looked like a cool place. I never went in as I haven't lived in San Francisco since I graduated high school.
My first post in the Pick-Up's thread. There will be more. Not a money card or anything, but one of my favorite cards from the 70's as a kid. I saw it in a pile of Jacksons at a baseball card store. This one screamed out. For all the memories it brought back, well worth the $10.
Hey Moose! Rocco! Help the Judge find his checkbook, will ya!
Dude that is one of my favorite looking cards of all time. My cousin who got me into collecting as a kid put me onto it-- along with the 1980 Ryan, because it simply looks so cool. Add in a HOF subject in his glorious prime, and it's just a great baseball card. Yours looks fantastic with rare, nice centering, too. And at that price it's a great catch!
Finally completed my 2014 Heritage SPs, last card I needed and I must have been the underbidder on at least 10 of these before giving up on auctions and going the BIN route.
<< <i>Todd--Great Musial! That is a beautiful card.

Hiya Steve - thanx!
Know where it is but never went in. Have been to SF about 10 times in my life - next time maybe I'll take the time to drop in.
Originally shared in its raw form in the May thread, this just came back from PSA today.
When I bought it, I figured 2.5 or 3 were mostly likely. Was pretty confident it would never be a 4, and not being sure how they grade these, even thought a 2 might be possible. I was indeed hoping though that it would get a 3.5, but half points have been hard to come by.
Pretty stoked on this one cuz I really like the color of it and it's a little bit off the beaten path.
52-90 All Sports, Mostly Topps, Mostly HOF, and some assorted wax.
i race cars for fun, so this one of cap'n hornsted was pretty cool. crazy to think he was busting 125+ mph in 1914 in an open air car, no abs, no power steering, hard suspension, etc.
<< <i>This thread keeps gettin better. Mike, I have been to Lefty's. The ashtray is way cool.
Jim, the Berk Ross Williams is awesome. It is a beautiful card >>
Thanx John!
I know where it is - I believe - I've done at least 8 CE courses at the Presidio in SF and we stayed at the Marine Memorial Hotel on Sutter St. near China Town.
<< <i>Finally completed my 2014 Heritage SPs, last card I needed and I must have been the underbidder on at least 10 of these before giving up on auctions and going the BIN route.
One more project I can check off the list. >>
Congratulations Kyle - I always feel good when I complete something since it's so rare!

I sure enjoy the cards you're posting - I apologize - I don't remember your first name.
Marky Mark, I oughta send you a cookie for such a genius invention. I'm not going to single out any offerings, because this entire thread is off the hook.
<< <i>Congratulations Kyle - I always feel good when I complete something since it's so rare! >>
I'm trying hard to reverse a trend this year and actually complete more 'projects' than I start And begsu is Bob, unless he has any other names he prefers.

its Bob and thanks! most of my psa sets have been completed. I mainly focused on teams or players vs years and have been contemplating what to start next. been tossing the monster around in my head but just been picking these tobacco cards up. it's fun and cheap and ya actually learn a lil bit about history in the process...
kyle,
congrats on the final nail in the coffin. tends to be bittersweet though I find!
Was really excited to find these in any form and haven't seen any available unopened previously. Now I just need a Pujols...
2001 Bowman Heritage Promos, only 500 of each made, no slouches, and I love that the gum for these is wrapped separately (in the regular packs as well). For those who attended the 2001 National in Cleveland, these may look familiar and were passed out at various booths w/the Pujols only available at the Beckett booth.
Just picked up some 2014 Lowell Spinners Game Worn Jerseys straight from the team all with their own letter of authenticity. If anyone is interested go ahead and hit me up, they are all for sale.
ok, snagged this thursday night. was listed as a buy it now or OBO at a stellar price to begin with considering the eye appeal and centering. seriously thought it was a scam. fired off a ridick offer and guy said that price was fine if we did it off ebay and thru FF (red flag, please don't turn me in gregf). again, thought it was a scam so I hit the "buy it now" for 3 reasons:
1. even at the BIN price it was a steal..if legit. 2. if I could grab it at what i offered thru the BIN it was grand larceny..if legit. 3. if it was a scam, then at least someone w/ less knowledge wouldn't get burnt.
so, get the guy's paypal address, he wanted FF but i sent $200 more via reg paypal via amex to cover the fees and that it must be shipped for sat delivery. I'm double protected, so what the hell...
well fri rolls around and i get a UPS tracking number via email around 2:00. still not convinced. try tracking it and says "label has been created, yada yada yada. still not dropped off" i've purchased something like this before and have got a tracking number. some were never dropped off and one was even sent to savannah, but to some completely random address. anyways, it was friday and after a long day we went and had some drinks. it was on my mind but not pressing. i honestly thought it was a scam. but like i said, i've played this game before and knew that i was covered. might i have to make a few phone calls if it went south? sure. but it was definitely worth the risk! again, it was a long friday, topped off w/ several crown/gingers/lime w/ a splash of water so i never checked to see if it was dropped off...well i woke up this AM to the UPS truck in my driveway, the doorbell ringing, dogs barking and the wife saying "who the hell is that this early on a saturday morning"....i just grinned and thought to myself "hangover is either going away instantly or be severe"!!!!!!
box was small and felt a lil light. could it just be an empty box? of course. that's happened too. well open her up, sift thru the 8 peanuts in the box and low and behold there is something in "a" piece of bubble wrap. looks like a mantle. so, i go thru the normal protocol...case looks good, check! black light test, check! double check images online vs card in hand, check!
it is altered, but i knew this via flip and the guys listing even stated it. border was built up on right hand side about a 3/4" (neck high, black light test image below), but the centering is fn crazy for this card and the price could absolutely not be beat...
come to find out, the card was listed in bst on the net54 board. granted, not for the price I paid for it...but it was nice to know I was worried for nothing...all part of the journey!
Great stuff as always. Had a busy few days myself. First a couple for my Post-War HOF Rookies set:
Next one just because Murphy was a favorite growing up:
And finally, I took advantage of a trip to DC to stop by House of Cards and talk to the wonderful guys there. Picked up a bunch of low- to mid-condition Hall of Famers at reasonable prices, but these two are probably my favorites:
first, a Mantle AS,
and second, for $12.50 I just couldn't resist this one:
One has to wonder what life it's lived. Anyone think it's worth it to get it slabbed authentic just for protection, or should I just leave it like it is?
Just saw a mess of really nice stuff but one thing stood out - let's face it, it's iconic. If there ever were a "fish that got away" for me? It's the 52T Mantle.
Geez Bob - that's a beauty - considering the prices they're getting right now? I'd take that one - the centering is sweet. Congratulations. This item is worthy of it's own thread IMO!

Definitely agree with this! And the crazy thing is that the 52T Mantle in your registry set is even much nicer than this one! Anybody who hasn't done so yet should follow the link in Bob's sig and look at his Mantle registry.

I picked this up at the recent ML auction.

<< <i>Is that Mantle in the bottom one? >>
it is!
i found it ironic on several levels. a tobacco ad...with a kid and also for "phillies" cigars when he was a yankee. etc.

Will PSA grade it?
If you haven't looked at all the scans in this thread? Incredible! Super pickups.
Mine is small and another is a display item.
First, I got a display rack to hold jerseys.
Here's an ash tray from O'doul's restaurant - it was opened in 1958 and still around today.

ebay listing: 351412334437 if ya wanna see the back...
edit: kyle beat me to it...and good job at that!!!
I won't share details of the story as I'm likely to offend someone...but I cannot hear Lefty O'Doul's name without saying 333 Geary & Stockton.
Cool ashtray.

It works most of the time, but there must not be a graded copy of the Halley's Comet card since I couldn't figure that one out the other day.
