Clearly this acquisition did not take place in June. That would be rather remarkable, seeing as we're a little over seven hours in here in TX. My postman is good, but he's not that damn good. This purchase took place at the tail end of May, but I decided to circumvent the rules a touch and include it in this month's thread.
Beyond stoked to add this 78 cello to my pigskin FASC run. At this late stage of the sealed-case game, I feel very fortunate to reel anything in from the 70s.
Have a great day/week/month all!
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

<< <i>Yeah, for the comics I'm interested in I have beat up reader copies which can be had for a dollar apiece. I do see it as similar to buying a wrapped box, because you're taking the grader/encapsulator's word that the interior is as it should be. >>
What he said .
These 2 arrived today, so I will include them in June. I loved the eye appeal. The Aaron is so tough to find centered. I give up trying to remove the dust:

Also picked up a 52 Cincy Bobby Adams. Love the centering. Has a crease down the length of the card next to his ear. Can really see it when you hold it to the light but I am OK with it.

<< <i>Sweet 65s! >>
Darn tootin'!
Here's what showed up in my mail today.
Dan you did not bust this out... lol I have not heard that in years.
Steve sweet cards, are you going for a signed set to go along with your 61 fleer set? Or adding some signed HOF BSK rookies to your collection?
Here are mine they came in yesterday, I started to work on another set (I'm working on to many already so what the heck). I'll be going after this set in the 5-6 range, the set has 50 cards in it and I'll buy a reprint of the Graziano to complete the set I guess.

though not cards--I did sell $10K worth of vintage packs to finance the downpayment

WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle
Edited to add: I just saw TBP beat me to it!
Very hard to find 65s like that Aaron so nicely squared up.
I've always passed on the 79 Ozzie because the bottom banner always seems tilted. But not on this one. The Clemente was my ideal example even though the centering is not dead on-- wanted very low grade with centering and focus, as too many look blurry to me in places. It seems that with the 55 Roberto, the low grade ones are always wrecked and the high grade ones are too pricey and still usually have some tilt. Was pleased to finally spot a low-end one that looked nice.

<< <i>Addition to my Seinfeld collection >>
hysterical!
Mark, the 1952 Adams has superb eye appeal. Nice job!!!
Matt, I would love to own an Ozzie RC and Clemente RC are just like ones I want someday own. The 79 Smith is nearly impossible to find without the banner tilt.

I think it is impossible if the card is cut perfectly squarely. The best you can hope for is what seems to have happened here, that the bottom edge of the card is cut slightly uphill (parallel to the banner) so that it doesn't appear tilted.

Here are a few of my 56 topps set additions so far this month. The brady put me over 25% completion.
3 golfing beauties!!

Very nice!
The 56s are real nice. Great centering. Looks like PSA missed a decimal on the 7.5
Lovin this monthly thread.
and first one I've seen with the new hologram
88 houston show set oddballs. these things are tough...
The coins do not scan very well ... they look MUCH nicer in hand.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>Sorry for the modern, but this was a huge white whale for my Moss PC.

That randy moss pmg is SWEET! I find it odd but cool that he's a college uniform on the card.

Doug, I love that Mick matchbook too... I'm a sucker for the oddball stuff and Mantle certainly has quite a bit of that out there.
Snorto~
Doug, I always love seeing your Mantle additions. I agree that the Matchbook is awesome.

Love all the oddball tobaccos you've been posting this month and last! Are you just picking up whatever looks interesting or do you have a theme? The smoking Turk and Cortez cards are pretty sweet.
I actually thought about starting my own thread and posting recent pick ups as well as some of the older purchases. there really is no rhyme or reason, i don't intend to get them graded or compete on any registry. it's solely for the love of collecting.
and considering their age, creases don't matter, rounded corners don't matter, simply eye appeal to me. the subject matter really takes me all over the map. it's a fun lil side project that I've been enjoying for the past couple of months. best part is that try to stay under $10 - $20 per card, but honestly most of them are only like a buck or two....it's fun!

I do the same with anything remotely related to golf for tobaccos and oddball. I had a $5 threshold for any non-player related cards when I started and was able to get most all that I have for less than that and I agree... it's a blast! I need to start a thread for those as well. Maybe you could keep some interest in the non-sports forum with a regularly updated thread of random tobacco pickups?
