The coin is still kind of ugly, but the doubled motto area is not affected and is an excellent view of the doubling.

You got pictures of #28 yet?
You'd have to beat #9 on the hideous scale to be the worst one known, it's: (9) RAW - AG Details, Damaged
Still waiting on pics of @jdimmick 's #28 to add to the census - nudge nudge 8-) - hey...I see a newly graded PCGS AG3 cert 38449534 closed Monday on eBay of yours for $547 - is this the beat-up coin you mentioned with the huge obv scratch, or do you have 2 new ones to report?
In other news - there were 2 sales on eBay in August 2019 and one just a few days ago.
On 9/23 a coin by jdimmick sold on eBay (PCGS AG3) which I'm still wondering is the 28 coin or another #29 coin sold on eBay for $547 - it does have a big obv scratch/marks, so may be what he reported previously... Awaiting details.
On 8/22, the #15 coin (PCGS G4) made its first appearance - I hadn't seen it before, it was one simply from pop reports from a few years ago. It was a Type-A and set a record for a G4 with someone pulling the trigger on an eBay BIN of $2,750
On 8/19, the #26 coin just recently found by a reddit user which was graded NGC AG3 was won on eBay for $1,807.50 (1,799 + 8.50 shipping) - making it the highest NGC AG3 on eBay (A direct sale from a website of $2,195 from about 2 years ago is still the record for an NGC AG3).
That's all the news so to speak. 4.5 years into this, still at 27 confirmed (28 with jdimmick's, or 29). Prices have not slumped by any stretch of the imagination so far (I think Monday's $527 for the PCGS AG3 was due to the obverse damage), and they certainly aren't coming out of the woodwork, and darned sure not coming out in any decent grades for the most part.
Keep searching.

2 More Sold today - here is a lesson in eBay auction listing wording.
A board member sold this Monday for $547 in a true auction - notice no DDO or FS101 in the title
Buyer is also a board member - as soon as he got it, listed it with a $1750 BIN or best offer. Sold it for $1600 (To Hansen of all people). All the other AG3's are going up around 17-1800 or so although this one has some damage, yet still straight graded. Used better terminology in his auction title.
A few minutes later this one that has been listed for a long time also finally sold.
The 1919 DDO will be featured in the next CPG due out in 2020. Hopefully the exposure will result in more pieces being found.

A 5th PCGS AG-3 has shown up in the pop report in the last few days.
This would potentially be census coin #29.
Need to confirm it's a new example and not a crossover of an NGC coin or one of the few remaining raw examples in the census. Who has any information on this new graded AG-3?
Number 30 was found and listed on eBay a few days ago (I was locked out of my forum account sadly).
Was listed on eBay at $749.95 or BO. A best offer of $550 was accepted. It was auction #123979958597 ended 11/18
It's a raw coin with some Obv scratches, some Rev discoloration with porosity/environmental issues.
I added it to the census as G+/VG Details - the seller listed it as Good Details in the auction - if anyone wants to go look at it, I think it has a bit more meat on the bone than typical goods, although barely - I think it's about a grade 7.
Also - I added #31 to the census as well, as a Sixth PCGS AG-3 has been added to the pop reports this week. Hoping anyone out there with info about potential crosses from the NGCs or one of the few raws out there getting graded would help keep things tidy in the census.
Still trying to find pictures or info on #29 and #31. Anyone with any info on these or others would be appreciated to keep the census as best I can.

Thanks @dbldie55 - When I got the cert numbers for 29 & 31 last week, the truview pics weren't up yet. 29 is on eBay right now for the 2nd time, nobody bid on it last week when it was up.
I'll add the pics to the library tonight and check it against the others.
Did you discover this one? If so, what's the backstory.
Hey @KearneyCC - I see you have the #29 coin on eBay right now - you have to share your secret with everyone - that's what... the 5th or 6th one either you or your business has found now? You are a machine!
I think we may be reaching the point of saturation of AG graded coins, but who knows.
There is one on eBay now for $1499.99 BIN (coin 29) that's been there several weeks.
The GC coin (coin 31) starting at $1200 might get some bids. The reverse is kind of rough, but I've seen worse. I think initially someone wanting an example of these would buy anything coming up for sale. We have many out there now, that maybe folks will start getting choosy - comparing photos of all the AG coins - there is quite a difference - the PCGS FR-2 coin I think is better looking than some of the AG-3 coins, and there are certainly tier A/B/C versions within AG-3 that some folks may be holding out for upper tier AG-3 (Never thought I'd say that).
Working backwards for AG3 sales - a TON depends if it was a BIN, how the auction was titled (A lot forget to put the FS-101 or DDO or type Double Die instead of Doubled Die - little things that could keep an eBay notification from going off). But certified AG-3 sales were:
1600
547
1807
1649
1977
2195
1399
772
1599
817
Best of luck to the seller, next month will be the 5-year mark, and we've reached 31 known examples!

Number 32 has been added to the census PCGS G4. Was found in dealer stock and is currently listed on GC (No shameful plug - isn't mine). Ends in 12 days if interested.
I posted these in another thread, but might be good to have in the "Main" post on these:
FR:
One of the AGs
One of the Goods
VG:
Fine:
VF:
XF40:
XF45: (Note - this coin ALSO has machine doubling which is not a PUP for the DDO in general. Above WE in the motto is most visible upward and slightly to the left, but other parts of the coin shows machine doubling as well)
AU Details/Environmental Damage:
Also - I get a few PMs from time to time asking me what "Stage A" and "Stage B" mean in the census.
As Dr. Wiles from CONECA started examining these, his investigation of die states for both the obverse and reverse led to the categorization of Stage A and Stage B (See below) http://varietyvista.com/06 Mercury Dime/1919PDDO001.htm

Yea, watched it close and added it to the census. I'm not sure if the economy held it back a little or not - I had figured closer to $2,500. Here is the pricing around where this one closed. An AG3 sold higher 2 years ago, and this didn't go as high as the last G4 on eBay (with a BIN though).
(15) PCGS G4 - $2,750 (8/22/19 - eBay Buy It Now)
(14) PCGS F Details - $2,250 (9/28/19 - eBay Buy It Now)
(11) Raw VG - $2,250 (7/2016 eBay)
(21) NGC AG3 - $2,195 (12/24/17 - Sold through ARSave Collectables Website www.arsave.com)
(25) PCGS AG3 - $1,977 (7/18/18 eBay) (32) PCGS G4 - $1914.75 ($1,702 bid + $212.75 BP) Great Collections 5/10/20
(26) NGC AG3 - $1,807.50 (8/19/19 - eBay)
What is the concensus, if any, on whether or not the two die cracks led to an early retirement of this die pair? Some of the 1922-D cent dies I am studying were used for a long time after their cracks developed, but there the Denver Mint had an artificial die shortage that the Philadelphia Mint would not have had in 1919.

I’d say inconclusive at this point. I have pictures of 31 of the 32. Some better than others. From those, If they have the stage B obverse, they have the stage B reverse. Of course, if it wasn’t a DDO, nobody would be posting pictures of a circulated 1919 merc, so not many pics to look for just the reverse die crack matching. Just the fact that the DDO made it to an “Early Middle Die State” per James has me hopeful it at least had a healthy run on that obv die.
Maybe some day the archives will pull up some note from 1919 about it, but haven’t found anything yet in the NNP.
I haven’t seen much of a progression in the obv die crack to show it getting terminal to need to pull the die. There are so many other years with cracks in the same general area, I would think it may have almost been considered normal to a degree and wonder if they would have pulled it had it been noticed right away anyhow. I mean they missed a glaring DDO. Which in MS should have been visible to the naked eye and didn’t pull it at least for a little while, so who knows.
When is Cherrypickers 6/2 out? That may help get more discovered.

That is the #12 coin found in 2016. It sat on eBay for quite awhile back then, never saw any sales history for it. Do you own it now? Those pictures are better than the ones of it when it was on eBay, so added to the archive.
I have pictures of all known 32 except for #22 if anyone can help, that would be great!
22) PCGS VG-8 - New to pop report 7/2017
Cert: 545047.08/84200019
Stage Unknown (I need pictures of this one)
I'll add the TrueView once it posts, but @StrikeOutXXX is right. I discovered #33 in a rather strange way. I already had the 1919 dime, as it came from a Whitman folder bought out of an estate in the Denver area sometime in the 13-15 time period. When rechecking my 90% the past few weeks due to silver's recent run, I decided to re-check all folders of coins for any cherrypicker varieties. I've followed this thread assiduously since 2015, and when I thought I had a new find, I immediately messaged and had @StrikeOutXXX confirm the DDO. I also found a 1943 Washington DDO, but that wasn't nearly as cool LOL.
While it might have been cool to have found it sooner, I'm happy to have found it in the midst of 2020, when I needed a good numismatic pick-me-up!
GSAs, OBW rolls, Seated, Walkers. Anything old and Colorado-focused, CO nationals.
A nice Stage-A example. Congrats on cherry-picking yourself, I’m sure that was a nice surprise, especially out of an estate sale.
I’m hoping when the CPG comes out next month, it prompts a lot more folks to dig out their folders and collections. Hopefully we will have a mint state example before long!

I was told last month by an editor at Whitman that the new CPG would be available by the end of August. I keep checking their website everyday. This is a highly anticipated book!

Still am amazed that this coin, with such a large spread, flew under the radar for almost 100 years.

As Dr. Wiles from CONECA started examining these, his investigation of die states for both the obverse and reverse led to the categorization of Stage A and Stage B (See below)

Sold for $1,915 last night.

Thanks for the photo gallery.
Tom,
I’d say inconclusive at this point.

Small article with Coin World today on the dime. Would have been nice had they used the census numbers, but any publicity is good.

Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.

Great news. Happy for you.
