That coin needs an acetone bath - then maybe a month in the hot FLA Sun !!
I bought the coin from Glenn H. at FUN in 2011 and you were sitting at his table! I'm quite certain I saw you scribbling all over the coin with Crayols's as I was walking up.
It's certainly far from the prettiest coin in my set; for me it's #72 of 73. It needs someting, but it will need to be done by someone else when I part with it.

That's crazy. Even if you deduct week end days, show days, travelling to show days, they should have been done a month ago. The $12.00 difference between Economy and a Regular submission can be worth the wait - but 54 days ?!!
I wonder if it'd be faster if they were submitted raw vs: Cross Over. Just a thought. Good luck on the cross.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Milo - Welcome and you come with great references. Your coins have preceded you so, I know you have good tastes. The last 1893-S Quarter is stunning - and I am glad Vern has been posting for you. I assume you are a Quarter fanatic - so - lets see the others that havn't been released to us , yet.
Labelman.... I think you need to get Mark Goodman's book on coin images. Even I think I can do a bit better than that - and I know I am terrible. My past imaging experience was photographing your AU Quarters when you had an epiphany that you no longer wanted any AU Quarters - saving only MS versions. We all know how that worked out. If I had the funds, I should have bought lock, stock and slab. If for no other reason but to pick up your 14-S !!
The 14-S I see on eBay is nice - but - at $3500 obo is too rich for this Old Man ! I think I'll just live with my VF 30 - but - its something I really would like to add to my set.
I stumbled across an 09-O in PCGS AU 58 today - and I had to nab it...its destined for my Everyman's Set of Barber Dimes ...gotcha !! LOL
The 09-O Dime is from Northern Nevada Rare Coins - and the images are terrible - but - if its really a mess - its returnable.... so, pls excuse these images ... I'll have professional ones taken by my friend Valente151 one of these days...
What did I tell ya, you need sunglasses to view this coin !
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
I received a late evening email from CAC - a couple of weeks ago I submitted four Barbers: 1883 Nickel N/C - PCGS 64 - CAC 'd 1895 Nickel - PCGS 58 - CAC 'd 1893-S/s Dime - PCGS 62 - CAC 'd 1906 Quarter - PCGS 58 - No Dice....

I snabbed a nice looking 1913 S Barber Half off a Buy It Now on eBay earlier in the week:
I was really looking forward to receiving this one in the mail. It arrived yesterday- the first look- it was great! Then I got it in better light and a quick rotation revealed
Mike - Thanks for the welcome and yes, you are correct, Barber quarters are at the top of my list. Getting to know the players in the Barber world, like Mike Hayes, is going to be great. More coin pics will be coming.
Vern - Another package will be coming your way tomorrow. Thanks again for your expertise.

What?!?! No Barber quarters in the mail today!?!? ... "heavy sigh" ...
Great original look on the '01 S Dime. I like them looking like that.
Another raw pickup- this time a 1899 Liberty Nickel. I bought it thinking it may be a good AU 58 candidate. The listing photos were marginal; when it arrived I noticed something interesting:
A knife coming through the back of Miss Liberty's neck!!
It must be a die clash from the wheat on the reverse. If this was a 1912 coin I would say this is what killed off the series.
Jeff- Nice pickup, where do you find these things, I've worked my tail off in Chicago and found only one coin. I spent hours at a 60 table one day show finding nothing, guess I'll be trolling EBAY tonight.
Mike- nice coins indeed, but I really liked your old 1905-S half, like the darker look a lot.
Labelman- really like the looks of your 1907 Quarter, bet it looks real good in hand.
Dave: Thanks for the comments on my old 1905-S in PCGS 45 - which I just recently had CAC'd. A good friend is building a set of Halves for his Son, and he bought it when I mentioned that I had upgraded to an AU 53.
This past week I noticed that I was remiss in locating some very common Dimes for my Everyman set. Last week, I nabbed a beautiful 1909-O in PCGS 58 and today, I pulled the trigger on a very heavily toned ( OBV ) 1892 Phila Dime in PC 58. The REV is very lusterous and much lighter than the OBV. Once again, the images are terrible - so, it goes in the pile for 1) CAC and 2) for imaging with Valente151.
I think the OBV will be fine in normal daylight. I think it'll do the Everyman Set "just fine" !!
- edit to add seller's images ....
BTW - I like the 1901-S Dime in 55 as well... very tough coin to locate.
Jeff: I like the 1899 very much - but aside from the clash marks, I think the coin won't grade as an AU...its a nice MS coin [ at least from the images !! ]
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Mike-Looking forward to seeing more images of the 1892, judging by what you have posted that obverse is absolutely perfect. I'm very partial to the darker toned coins and that sure is a beauty.
Originally posted by: MFH Jeff: I like the 1899 very much - but aside from the clash marks, I think the coin won't grade as an AU...its a nice MS coin [ at least from the images !! ]
Mike-
Nice dime; you've really been improving your set!
I agree, the '99 will likely grade 63. Since I have a 65 in the set the only reason to keep it is due to the interesting clash. I guess coins like this have little collector interest as they do in modern issues. I'll probably send it in to PCGS and keep it, but I sure wish there was some sort of designation for the error like the VAM's for Morgan $$.
Jeff - I looked up varieties in the "Complete Guide to Shield and Liberty Head Nickels", by Peters & Mohon, and couldn't find any mention of your clash, although they do make an effort to organize V Nickel varieties, most of which are repunched dates.

That's a really nice 96-O Dime. I'm looking for its "S" sister in the same exact look. Never realized exactly how difficult finding an 1896-S in AU 55-58 would be.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the first time in a very long time, I did not bid on anything in the most recent Heritage Auction. I tracked many V Nickels, but none would have worked into my sets. I am down to approx. 9 Nickels needed in AU 58. I have been hunting daily but to no avail.
I have two Barbers in my sights for the upcoming FUN Heritage auction. This time, color is the key ingredient; lets just say it's a Dime and a Quarter.
No images yet, my YN photographer is applying to Med Schools and working at a hospital in Orlando. I never have TV on during the day, or listen to the radio.... But he posted on Facebook something about a trauma center being available for students if they wanted.
I texted him to find out what he referred to...and his response was ..." Hey, old man...watch the news..."
Sad, very sad situation. My heart felt condolences go out to all those affected by this senseless act.
No soup for me either. I see Economy submissions received 1 to 2 weeks after mine being graded; how does this work? Am I supposed to include a $50 bill with my submission to get preferred service?
Paesan - Does customer service give an answer why your submission is taking so long?
Mike - I've been looking for an 1896-S dime in anything from 55-64 for a long time, and haven't found one I like. IMO it's just a tough as the 96-O. Congrats on the dime and nickel newps.
Jeff - I don't know if there's a definitive way of telling the difference between a proof and a business strike struck from proof dies. I look for a wire rim, which the obv of your '95 has, to determine if a coin might be a proof.
Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Jeff, the truth is that I really don't care how long it takes. I'm knocking them for the fun of it; for laughs. The joke is really on me, though. I want them to grade my coins. I pay them for that. They always get the last laugh, because we will never go back to the good old days of searching for nice raw coins and putting them in albums or flips. We need them, and they're laughing me while they take my money. The jokes on me.
It's probably because my coins are so awesome that they want to keep them extra long to stare at them.
We're they submitted in Kryptonite holders? That could present a problem.
I was also thinking your coins might be so bright and shiny that they blinded the graders, but then I remembered the look you like......
