Finally snagged one of these and got it at a great price. Pop 16, 10 multiplier on the registry.
These sold for way too low as well, so I grabbed some duplicates (pop 10 on the green, pop 7 on the yellow/green). I need to compare in hand, but I think the yellow will be an 'upgrade' to my existing 10.
Love that Larkin. 1991 Studio is a very underrated set. I busted a whole case looking for a Dwight Evans to grade. Surprisingly condition-sensitive. Great set to get autographed.
vandweller - 100% agreed on 1991 Studio, one of these days others may realize how great the photography is and how difficult they are to get 10s of.
charrigan - I got the Larkin Samples from a board member. You can ping begsu1013 and see if he'll share his source. The forum still seems to be acting a bit funky on some of the longer threads that weren't calculating properly in the past. The Last page button took me to page 15 in this thread at times yesterday and page 16 others.
DanB - Thanks! It's a huge one for the Master with the weighting.

Those are some very nice additions. Congrats, Kyle! I especially like the look of the black diamond. I'm guessing it's condition sensitive with the all black front?

How many Larkins do you have at this point?
I'm about to embark on my first "player" set myself.
Is the "Black Diamond" a tough one?
I'm a big fan of the SIFK card as well and don't expect to ever see a 10 of it with the PD present on every copy I've seen (left and slightly above his name on the front to the left border).
I'm up to at least 1,500 different Larkins with ~325 graded on my registry + another 10-15K duplicates. Looking forward to your player set journey and think I've seen you mention a couple times who it will be. Thankfully with vintage there aren't thousands of different cards to try to go for
Mike, Steve - The Black diamond is dark foil front with dark borders around 3 1/3 of the back as well so chipping is common.
Dan - Date fixed and back again to fix my fantasy FB lineup. The ESPN fantasy app thinks my phone is too old.
Another Topps Vault item that I was surprised went low enough for me to snag it with Jeter included (and Nomar). I've been able to match the Jeter and Nomar photos to the Triumvirate insert set, but not the Larkin. Looks like he didn't make the cut for that set and was replaced by ARod.
A full 8.5x11" sheet with all three Match Print photos for cards T14A/B/C...
Huge Scores today (pun intended)! First up the 1988 Score Sample, a card that has been on my wishlist since I started collecting Larkin...
I've only seen one picture that confirmed this card existed and I know the other Larkin registry collectors have been looking a long time as well. His regular issue had a purple border instead of green and this has the stats for 1987 & Career zero'd out. There are none of the Sample cards graded by PSA for any of the players in the set, though they've been noted in Beckett for as long as I can remember. I'm really looking forward to getting this one slabbed.
Next up, when it rains it pours. Two more of the card glued to this Scorecard.
I'm guessing the intent of the Sample cards was for this quality comparison, since if they were sent to many dealers I would think others would have surfaced in the past few years. It's like a dry erase board with the two Score cards glued to it with the competitors 1987 issues affixed to cardstock to slide on top for comparison. There were Topps and Donruss comparison card boards in addition to the Fleer shown.
Lastly, a registry addition that arrived today also....
I don't know enough about this issue, but wouldn't each variation be eligible for the master set?
I don't believe so. There is no notation on the cards and it appears to be random what color or mix/ratio of colors of foil are applied to a given card. Scans should make it more apparent.

Yes, but not graded. I have a 'rainbow' in the binder that I'll have to dig out and scan.
The update today reminded me I hadn't scanned these yet, so I pulled what I have in the binder at least. I probably have others in one of the 5K monster boxes....
It's probably a little difficult to make out some of the foil color differences, but it can impact both the TSC logo and the Extreme Corps lettering/bar at the bottom. Any single color ones are really tough to find, like the All Red in the lower left.

I think it was only 6 different cards they did the 88 Score Samples for and Larkin the only one likely to be interesting to player collectors. It's amazing how tough those are to find for a late 80s issue.
A couple new ones arrived today, a purchase from a fellow board member...
The 89 is a Pop 1 and has just been requested to be added to the Master registry, the 94 a Pop 2.

I really liked that one to, but it won't be eligible for the Larkin master since it's too new by one year. I haven't been chasing too many relics, but the lot of 3 came up at a price I couldn't pass up.
Originally posted by: vandweller I really love cards from those Fleer small sets. Why couldn't a card company still do those?
No idea, seems like they would do really well in a retail setting and be a fairly cheap way for kids to get cards of only the stars (and us to reminisce about all the small box sets of the late 80s/early 90s). Also, it could drive some next generation sports card collector interest for the price of a Pokemon pack.

Edit: whoops! I must have been on the wrong page. Weird. Was looking at the trio of Larkin PSA samples that you posted earlier.

Mike, I believe the answer to your question is many thousands. Kyle can answer for sure.
