Leaving as is for now. If I send it in to get graded, I'll probably ditch it prior. There are some bubbles under it that would probably lower the grade due to the peel.
Thanks for updating this thread! One of my favorites. The gold refractor is really cool and I'm glad you got the last 87 Donruss variation you needed. Are there any 87 RCs left for you to get in PSA 10? Or have you completed the run?

Two RCs left in PSA10, Toys 'r' us (fairly easy to find, just don't want to pay the 4SC price when the last one at auction went for about $12) and Kahn's Reds (impossible, only 5 graded total all 8s).
Also still need to find any 87 Fleer unopened with Larkin showing and a Topps cello with Larkin on front (might not be possible).
It's getting hard to find any lots of Larkin that I don't already have pretty much everything already, so I was pleasantly surprised to find one that had 3 cards I needed and an auto in only a 10 card lot. The GU bat is /100 and unopened, Showdown is the 1st Edition parallel, and a Leaf Limited w/Rey Ordonez on the back that I didn't have yet. Even more surprising was it was an auction with a BIN that was set for less than most autos go for, so I didn't hesitate in picking it up before anyone else saw it.
Thankfully there are no 'strangely erotic' cards of Barry that I'm aware of. I'm still looking for a sig of his that looks anything like the facsimile autos on several years of the Bowman issues, it's either an early version or the Topps contract was signed by someone else.

Well I found one this summer that looked like that, remember? But we both thought that was a fake.
First up from a large Reds auto collection I picked up, a 1990 program (Reds WS year) from the August 2nd-5th series with San Diego. I need to figure out which of those dates was the Armstrong vs. Hurst pitching matchup. It has Barry's pic so I'll include it here, but he wasn't one of the signers on this one:
On top we have Tony Perez, Rob Dibble, and Mariano Duncan. Middle area is Papa Griffey, two I haven't identified yet (maybe Hal Morris upside down?), and I believe Norm Charlton. Bottom area is Tim Layna and Billy Hatcher(?).
Best of luck on your Larkin card. I have a PSA 8. They all seem to be off center top to bottom. I found that uncut sheet at a local mall card show here in Louisville, Ky (probably in the early 1990's) for about $30. I've never seen another one.

That's a great price. I picked up a couple team sets for about $10 each a few years back, now opened complete sets are going for around $75.
That's pretty cool but at the same time puzzling. My first thought was that Marshall was #269 or #271 but he's #70. Larkin is #270 so I'm guessing the "70" is the connection.

I'm not sure, the seller has a lot of listings for the 89UD set that are bizarre: Link My guess is they were all scrap destined for the trash, hence no holo.
Received a lot of 950 Larkin cards today, good breakup value in the one's I already have and a few new to me...
Top Row: 1998 Leaf Team Lineup (TLU), 2000 Pacific Portrait (have several copies of the Action already), 1999 Skybox Metalsmiths (marked with 20th National Atlanta on the back, never seen or heard of this card before) Middle Row: 1988 Panini & two new back variations to the 89 Topps #44 Sticker Back bringing my total up to 8 Bottom Row: 1990 Broder-like All-Sports Superstars Series III & 1991 BB Card Price Guide Monthly '71 Topps style
I used to love those throwback cards. Still do. There was an Emmitt Smith 1973 Topps style I thought was awesome! >>
The Larkin throwbacks I have from various magazines and price guides now are: 1957, 1959, 1966, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1974 (all baseball style) and a 1973 Football style. I'll try to get a consolidated scan.
ETA: Did the Emmitt come from Pocket Price Guide? I think that's where the Larkin 73FB style came from.

Neat items, as always, Kyle. I always enjoy player collector threads because I often see oddball items in them that I wouldn't otherwise.
Curious where you draw the line on (non-auto) paper items? This is an area I struggle with in my own collection.
For example, I initially decided I wasn't going to pick up newspapers, magazines, programs, etc. just because Walter Payton was on the front page/cover. But I have added at least some magazines. There are also some magazine ads (cut from the magazine) that have Payton featured as the spokesperson that I think are neat... but I've resisted to date.
Do you have any hard and fast rules about what you won't collect when it comes to Larkin?

I don't specifically chase any non-auto paper items, but if I happen to get them along with other auto'd items then they don't leave the collection. The 1990 Program is not an item I would have targeted for the Larkin collection since it's more of an ad, but is a pretty cool addition since it's the Reds World Series year. Cutout ads are definitely not something that interests me. Anything that features them on a cover, I always view as an opportunity to get auto'd at some point.
<< <i>Jesus, 950 cards of one player! You're a sicko! >>
I have a problem, I know I like picking up cards this way so I have a large quantity to choose my favorite/best condition from and price per card goes way down (this lot was under 4 cents a card delivered). If you know anyone looking for ~10K spare Larkins, let me know.

<< <i>I'm still looking for a sig of his that looks anything like the facsimile autos on several years of the Bowman issues, it's either an early version or the Topps contract was signed by someone else. >>
Here's a couple examples of facsimile autos that I've never seen a legit real auto version of:
The Bowman are supposed to be what was on the Topps contract, but I have my doubts it's Barry's sig at all. The 92 Post looks like it could be a legit early version, Barry looks pretty consistent with his current sig, though he has a much larger loop on the 'L' now.
As I was going through the last large lot purchase, I remembered a lot of the variations that I don't recall having seen posted here. If you don't like your wax extra junky, move along, but for those player collectors of players from the junk wax era BOLO since most of these impact all cards in these sets.
First up 88 Donruss:
Text justification is different between factory and wax - all cards in set impacted
89 Donruss:
* Denotes & * Denotes *, INC & INC. - four combinations available for all cards in set
90 Donruss:
Splatter patterns on border are different between factory and wax - all cards in set impacted
INC & INC. - can't remember if there are 3 or 4 total combinations, this lot only had 3
91 Donruss:
INC & INC. - also front border differences between factory and wax (not shown), all cards in set impacted
92 Donruss:
INC & INC. - all cards in set impacted
91 Studio:
Yellow or orange logo - not sure if all or some cards in set impacted
91 Fleer:
Vital info shifted right or aligned with stats (also causes alignment shift in stats) - all cards with stats on the back impacted, haven't determined a difference on cards like the Superstar Specials
91 Topps:
Registered logo shifted low and close to team name or high and further away - Larkin only AFAIK, also impacts Desert Shield
Great stuff Kyle. This kind of MINUTIAE is what makes player collecting fun! And there seem to be many people on the boards who enjoy player collector threads. I know I do. Thanks for sharing.
Got this in the mail yesterday, auto'd Reds Report (14.5"x11" newspaper) from May 93:
Also got auto'd copies of other Reds featured on the Reds Report including Davey Johnson, Hal Morris, Joe Oliver, Tim Costo, and a dual-auto'd Kevin Mitchell & John Smiley (cover also featured Roberto Kelly).
Sorting through another large lot of cards while waiting for the 'whale' to arrive. Here's some highlights that were new to my collection...
Top: 03 Topps Chrome Refractor /699, 05 Leaf Gold Press Proof /25, 96 Sportflix insert w/Ripken Middle: 00 Invincible Purple /299, 99 Omega Red, 98 Elite Collections Bottom: 11 Topps (95 Reprint on front), 98 Pacific Online CL (had the parallel, but not the base)
Several really tough parallels, so I'm pretty pleased. I don't really target any of the Larkin cards post-2005, but Topps keeps printing them so I've ended up with a few.
<< <i>I'm curious, do you know of any other big Larkin collectors? If not, it's probable you're the biggest. >>
Yes, I've traded with a couple of them. There are at least 2 and maybe a 3rd with larger collections and one that's a big player on anything /10 or less.
