Yeah, I can't think of anything I could have him sign that would add that much value to it. His autos are plentiful in the $15-30 range. If it were local, I'd probably pay it just to meet him.
<< <i>Congrats Kyle, that's a beast of a card!! >>
Thanks! I'm loving the Aqueous Test and I think it steps into 2nd for most I've spent on a Larkin card. I'm not sure what they typically go for, but I won at about 2/3 of my snipe.
<< <i>Cool card! Is that black and white or a washed out scan? >>
Lettering is gold foil, card is B&W. It's a /50 I've had my eye on for a while, but didn't look like the seller would ever drop the price. Glad I wasn't picking it up for the Encarnacion auto; I've passed up on a bunch of Larkin autos that didn't fit/align properly in the boxes.
Another variation I hadn't highlighted previously...
Got a 'No Copyright' 90 UD in the last large lot that I purchased, impacts all 90 UD BB cards in the 100-199 card number range. I was previously guestimating these at about 3-4% of the production run, but after not getting one for a couple years think it might be closer to 2%. This is my 4th no copyright Larkin out of approximately 250 of this card.
<< <i>What's the date of the sig above the '92 auto?
One thing's of interest - Larkin appears to be inconsistent with respect to his sig? I know I sign my name about 8 different ways depending on mood. >>
The sig above the 92 Post is from a 99 Bowman, but was used on many years of Topps/Bowman cards. It's supposed to be a facsimile of his rookie Topps contract, so should be from the 86/87 timeframe.
From at least 97-now, his signature is remarkably consistent on all the manufacturer issued auto'd cards with the exception of one of the 2003 Donruss Signature cards that had 'B LARK' on the entire run printed in various handwriting of which I suspect none by Barry himself.
You and I have had conversations before about Barry's auto, so I feel like I know a little bit about it. That, combined with the 92 Post facsimile, lead me to think this one's good. Nice one too!
Top two were self-subs to complete the graded rookies run and both came back a grade lower than expected. I'll be looking to upgrade. Bottom two were recent eBay pickups, Red Foley is Pop 1 w/none higher.
Top two were part of the same sub, I was surprised they wouldn't grade the 90 Topps Doubleheader. The other was not a shock, but it's the only other 87 issue of Larkin (Broder-ish New Reds Machine). I may have to see if that set can be added.
I also finally started a Larkin Master on the registry, LarkinDimes, and picked up the obligatory batch of 4SC Bowman 10s with my eBay Bucks. The last one pictured is a Mech Error from that batch that I need to get reholdered to note it's the Gold version before adding it to the registry.
Kyle, as you know, I'm very excited you've dove into the registry. I know you're going to kill it. I think my favorites of the ones shown are the Kahn's RC and the 87 oddball they wouldn't grade. Continued luck, my friend. And it's great to see the link in your sig too!
Thanks guys! Dan - I love the regionals and oddballs, even if they hurt my GPA. GPM - It's great to be able to collect someone from that era untainted by PED usage or even allegations. There's several great guys to collect from those 90s Braves teams as well!
<< <i>Thanks guys! Dan - I love the regionals and oddballs, even if they hurt my GPA >>
Me too. I think the more obscure items are the coolest part of player collecting. And if I was forced to choose, I'd rather have those items in my registry and be closer to 100% than to have all 9's and 10's but a set that's more incomplete. I like the track you're on.
Great thread Kyle! I'd ideally like to start collecting one player, probably Nolan Ryan, Robin Yount, or Ken Griffey Jr. All three were heroes of mine growing up. My favorite player however was Canseco. I have a lot of his stuff from a kid, and buy signed stuff of his here and there, but I'd like to collect a HOFer as a registry.

Thanks! I don't think you can go wrong with any of those choices, though the Nolan is especially pricey to tackle w/tons of 60s team issue and oddball stuff if you're going for the Master set.
Nah, I wouldn't go for the Master Set if I went with Nolan. There's something like 2500 cards. I don't need to chase down that Sporting News paper clip and some of that other total pop 1 oddball stuff that I'm sure that comes with it. Prolly stay basic. Just too much of any of those guys to get too nuts.
Missed your response with the website issues yesterday. It's pretty sharp, but has some surface issues. Since it's not gradeable anyway, I couldn't care less.
Today's mail brought one more to add to the registry...
<< <i>Kyle, you have added some great cards!! I can't get enough of Lark'. Keep'm coming. >>
Thanks for the kind words and love all your Reds updates as well (even when Seaver is in the wrong uni)! There will be a large amount of updates next week once my latest 4SC shipment arrives along with a nice one purchased from a board member. I have a feeling all the cards are in town and just haven't made it to my house yet.
Packages arrived yesterday. I won't bore everyone with scans of all 22 (21 PSA10s & 1 PSA9), but here are the two highlights...
The 90F Canadian was a pickup from the BST and the Desert Shield (along with 20 10s) were from 4SC. If you want to see scans of the others, they are updated in my Master registry linked below.
<< <i>The DS card is sweet Kyle - is that a great action short or what?!
Thanx for sharing. >>
I love that shot as well, much better than the portrait for his base card that year. I'm still surprised that most of Larkin's action shots are batting, rather than fielding. Always happy to share, though what I share isn't nearly as impressive as what you can come up with

Bingo. That's the only reason I did the Yaz signing. I already had several autos of his, but I wanted to finally meet him.

It looks similar to some facsimile autos, but nothing like most of his more recent autos on the market:
It does have a JSA cert and I now own it, I just haven't seen enough of his early auto to feel comfortable authenticating myself.

Thanks! I need more wall space in my office if I'm going to do that
Also, purchased a small lot of Larkin cards just to get this one:
Not quite Topps Tek tough, but a complete run of Larkin variations from the 2004 Leaf Exhibits will take a long time to complete.

Leaf Black Gold was the only competition on coolness factor in 92, but IMHO the Bowman Golds win

Tiffany is a Pop 15 and the Fleer LL is a Pop 2.
Also I can't resist oddball items when them become available so grabbed this one.
