Looks like I didn't get this scanned before it went into my slabs-to-crack pile. It has been (mostly) freed of it's BGS tomb and will be going to PSA whenever I get around to subbing again. Super tough card....
2005 Sweet Spot Autos /25 & /75 2002 Donruss Originals Bat/Jersey Combo /50 2002 EX GU Glove (First glove piece for me) 2001 UD Original Issue Ball (First ball piece for me) w/Griffey Jr. 2002 Absolute Mem Team Tandems Bases (First base piece for me) w/Griffey Jr.
Pretty cool relics, gotta love the ones other than bats and jersey/pants. I've only got a couple. I really like the football and hockey cards with pieces of mask.
<< <i>Pretty cool relics, gotta love the ones other than bats and jersey/pants. I've only got a couple. I really like the football and hockey cards with pieces of mask. >>
That's why I picked them up, most of the jersey/bat ones are getting pretty boring so it was nice to find some unusual relics.
This also arrived yesterday, but just got around to getting pics uploaded. Auto'd 98 SLU in package...
<< <i>Nice additions! My guy played in the era before serial numbering. That adds an interesting wrinkle. >>
Always, according to Beckett there are 3,680 different Larkin cards of which 1,706 are serial numbered. I'm a little shy of 1,500 different cards in my collection, but don't target most of the /10 or less or the post-2005 issues.
A couple recent raw adds...
01 Signature Proof /175 & 03 Team Heroes Statline /124
and a couple of my favorite recent 10s (quite a few others have been added to my registry as well)
<< <i>Pretty impressive collection you've got going on here.
Any big cards remaining on the list to get, or is it more a matter of getting the completion percentage up to move into first place on the Registry? >>
I have most of the 'big' cards, at least in raw form. I was the underbidder on the 93 Finest refractor in PSA10 from the recent PWCC auction, that's probably one of the biggest left and I don't think my raw copy would get a 10. At this point, I would say it's more of getting my completion percentage up. First and second on the registry are a full 20% ahead, so I don't expect to catch up anytime soon, just targeting 40% complete this year.
ETA: Forgot one, the 88 Score Sample seems to be impossible to find. The #1 on the registry has been offering a healthy price for one on several forums and no one has dug one up yet. I finally found a picture of one this week, so I know it exists at least.
This happy trio arrived today, courtesy of the BST (TY Alex)...
and don't know how I forgot this one yesterday. I believe it's the highest weighted card I have for the registry (7x). I think it's also the earliest mention on a card of Larkin being a potential HOFer.
<< <i>Wow, a gem 10 with 7 weight is awesome! Is that one serial numbered or otherwise short printed? In other words, why the heavy weight? >>
From Beckett: This 30-card standard-size set is a special parallel to the 1993 Pinnacle Cooperstown set. This version, of which no more than 1,000 sets were produced was given out to dealers who attended all the sessions of the 1993 SCAI meeting in Dallas. Since attendance at the convention was less than anticipated, this set was also distributed through other methods.
I have a feeling there are far fewer than the 1,000 mentioned and the dark cardstock back and foil front are prone to chipping.
That signed SLU is awesome too! When signed on the bubble, they really display great.
Having completed the 1993 Topps Football Black Gold master set, I imagine that Winner A/B/C/D card set you back way more than most people would suspect.

Sweet Spots are some of my fav auto'd cards as well, though it seems a lot of sigs bleed on those. The ABCD card was surprisingly affordable. I remember looking for it a couple years back and couldn't find one under $50 w/others asking much more. Saw a recent listing of that card with sealed sets of each series for $20 and couldn't believe it.
The only problem with the signed SLU is now I need to get them all
<< <i>I think it's also the earliest mention on a card of Larkin being a potential HOFer. >>
Oops, forgot about the 91S Cooperstown card, that has to be the earliest mention. A few recent arrivals, first up a dual-auto (w/Don Robinson?) 89 SF Giants scorecard:
also received 4 Larkin PSA10s including this one (all will be added to my registry shortly):
Does anyone know if I can send these kind of cards for PSA to reholder with the Larkin showing on the front instead of the back?
and finally, started a bit of a new project for cards that picture Larkin, but he's not noted aka cameos (list of additional cards I need in the BST). This is a nice dual HOFer:
I went on a bit of an oddball kick last week and these were yesterdays arrivals. First up, the graded from CDsNuts (and one other pictured in my registry) and this one's a POP 1 to boot....
and a 93 Topps Full Shot (3.5x5-ish, not sure how these were distributed) and a 96 Pro Stamps Reds sheet
I have a couple more on the way, hopefully arriving today.
<< <i>This is a thread I love to follow. I like the Fleer disc and the cameo with Barry taking Sandberg out at second. >>
Glad to hear it. Your Reds thread is one I love to follow as well (which reminds me, it's time for a bump on that one)!
The last two Larkin 'rookies' I'm aware of arrived today, but since they're Broders will remain in their unslabbed state until PSA deems them gradeable:
The one on the left is labeled 'Indiana Blue Sox, Inc.' with a 1987 date (same as the 'New Reds Machine' series of the same year) and the other is from 'Collector's Choices of the 1980's' from The Press Box that the seller (and supercollectorcatalog.com) had listed as a 1987 issue as well.
<< <i>All great stuff, you know i love oddball issues! I think my favorite is the stamp panel. >>
That's going to be an interesting one and looks like I'll need to get a stack of those. They have a thin cardboard backing and are perforated, so PSA will grade them as singles, pairs, and complete team sets (not sure if the header has to be removed for that or not). They're all Pop 0 right now for Larkin/Reds.
Thanks for the info. Now I'm confused as far as the registry goes. It looks like they grade singles and panels of 2, 3 and 4. And they can be cut into different combinations. Are all those possibilities eligible for the player registries? I think I'm gonna have to call Cosetta and her folks in the morning.
Not an expensive one, but one more for the Master registry arrived today and one of my top 5 favorite images of Larkin on a card. Mid-backflip after defeating the Pirates for the 90 NLCS before the sweep of the A's for the WS title...
<< <i>Are you gonna sub the Classic phone card? And does the Larkin come in other dollar denominations? >>
Possibly, I'm not sure how they would treat it since the code is scratched off on the back. I think Classic did other denominations in 96, but for 95 this is the only denomination I'm aware of.
<< <i>I think that's Orestes Destrade, so Barry might be diving back into First. In any case, a fantastic image. >>
Good call, I agree.
jackstraw - I've seen the McGwire $100 one, but have never seen a Larkin so I'm not sure it exists.
I love getting random packages from other board members and one arrived today with a few Larkin oddballs/base cards. I think this one's going in my next sub...
It's a 91 Cracker Jack II (about the same size as a Micro) with the best centering I've seen on one of these. Thanks, Jim!
<< <i>Wow. Very impressive collection. So much stuff! >>
Don, this thread is the tip of the iceberg. Did you click the link to his master set? Kyle is one of the best of the player collectors on here and has encouraged me over the past 2 years to really step up the depth of my own player collections. I think Kyle has said he has close to 2,000 different Larkin cards, not including dupes.
Yes. I checked out both of your master sets. Incredible! Well done!

Hey Moose! Rocco! Help the Judge find his checkbook, will ya!
Always happy to help. Was just glad you could use it. Didn't even realize it was a Cracker Jack. There were a bunch in a collection I picked up, and I just checked and sure enough, someone ate a lot of Cracket Jacks. None of the others seem to have the centering of the Larkin.
Looking forward to what's next.

Well, you usually don't have to wait too long with this thread Another 'tiny' (literally) addition:
It's a cut from a 1988 8x10 poster 'We Agree, Don't Chew' issued by Oral Health America with a representative of each of the 30 teams pictured. The cut is 1.3x1.5" (approx), shorter and slightly wider than the Cracker Jack.
Don, Dan - Thanks! I love the updates to your player collections as well.
<< <i>You can never have too much Barry. Your impressive collection continues to grow. >>
My thoughts exactly and thanks for the kind words.
A few new raw additions, seems the Larkin market is pretty soft right now so grabbed a lot of other dupes of some other tough inserts/parallels from the same seller to build up my pool of cards to choose from for grading.
