<< <i>It was fun busting the PSA boxes over some pizza and brew. Matt forgot to mention that we went Trick or Treating with the kids prior to pizza. Always a fun time visiting Matt when we are on vacation.
There were a couple of head scratchers for sure. But the best part was the look on Matt's face when my wife was critiquing the cards with darn good accuracy. Hope you can make it up to Wisconsin some time. >>
Yeah it was a great time and we look forward to it the next time around.
Sheila does know how to critique a card that's for sure haha
I totally erased the memory of Eddie George being on the Cowboys. Great back in his time but was overused by Tennessee. By the time he was in Dallas he was pretty much useless.
I'm a Cowboys fan since late 70s. Since I grew up in 49er/Raider land I've received many questions as to why.
I have 3 possibilities. 1) totally dig the uniforms. Star. Colors. Always gravitated towards blue. 2) my favorite uncle was a Cowboys fan and taught me all about Staubach, Dorsett, Lilly, and his favorite Randy White. 3) my much older neighbor/sitter had a Cowboys Cheerleader poster on his ceiling that I could never keep my eyes off. He had a room full if poster, black light, etc...but the cheerleader poster was always a thrill.
I like to think its a combo, but boy did that poster influence me...LOL.
Love me some Cowboy Cheerleaders!!!
This thread is full of great pics.
52-90 All Sports, Mostly Topps, Mostly HOF, and some assorted wax.
Maybe I'll do a Red Sox LF project Only Williams, Yaz and Rice for more than 50 years. But I probably won't, because nobody hates Manny Ramirez more than I do.
My wife decided - this year - that she wanted to watch pro FB and picked Dallas - we've watched all the games together and I'm having a good time! She doesn't know a play action from a nickel defense - but what the heck.

Again - very nice cards. >>
Hi Mike!
Emmitt is further back towards the beginning of the thread. I pretty much had all his years covered and these are my new additions to the set.
Today's addition is a nicely centered PSA 9 second year Tony Dorsett card. 79 Topps aren't the easiest cards to find centered so I'm obviously happy to add such a great example to my set.
Today's addition. A nice 71 Topps Duane Thomas. This guy was on his way to being one of the top backs in the NFL back in the day. However, his terrible "the man's holding me down" attitude ended up derailing his career. Pretty sad to think about what could have been.

Another gorgeous 71, but you really have to fix that dust correction setting or I'm going to start hunting the 'filled A' variations

I know. I adjusted it but apparently not enough lol
Besides the great additions Dan sent me , I also received this nice Springs card in today's mail. This card is actually very tough to find centered with most being way off.
Today's addition, Julius Jones. Drafted by Bill Parcells, this guy started off with a bang. He eventually ended up on the bench when Marion Barber began to out-perform him.
I like the design of that Julio Jones card, one thing I dont like about alot of the 70's and even 80's football cards is the lack of action shots of the player depicted. I think I mentioned this before Matt, Tony Dorsett was my favorite player as a kid but I never liked his cards because they were "Boring"

Awesome cards and even awesomer thread >>
The cards are awesome to see, the thread is a great idea but the OP likes the Cowboys and I can't get past that
In an effort to save money, Topps only had a license from the National Football League Players’ Association and did not have an NFL license from 1970 - 1981. Of course this meant no team logos or other NFL copyrighted images. It was a lot easier to have the player pose standing still without the helmet as opposed to air brushing out all the logos that would have been seen with action shots.

And sometimes the airbrushing was done poorly and the resulting helmet looked pretty hokey, almost cartoonish.
Have to agree this is a cool project except that it involves the Cowboys .

Weird choice by UD to use such a rough surface texture for an auto subset as seen on the Woodrow Dantzler card.

My first ever football card was a Dallas RB. An 87 Topps Herschel Walker.

Demarco Murray looks like he will be better than anyone they have had since Emmitt Smith, he sure is tearing it up this season.
Such a cool project to work on
where's Emmitt?

Again - very nice cards.

Damn I liked that Newhart show.
During the off-season, he competed as a professional rodeo cowboy. His signing bonus with the Cowboys in 1966 season included a horse trailer lol!!
A knee injury he sustained in an exhibition steer wrestling accident at the College National Rodeo Finals in 1974 ended his NFL career. (wiki)

Needless to say but I'm sure he was one of the reasons owners began putting restrictions on players off-season activities.
