Today's finds were a 14K gold ring and 16 wheat cents. The ring has a pale blue gemstone. I only dig up gold about once a year since my focus is on finding silver coins. As with most of my gold finds, this ring was a nickel signal.

I also dug an old marble, a clad half dollar, a modern dollar coin, and a huge pile of change. The marble was right next to a 1964 cent, so, probably not super old.

Very nice to find a gold ring....A huge pile of change? Like a pocket spill? Old marbles do have value by the way. Cheers, RickO

I would call that a success. When you trade in your silver goal for gold. Although nothing beats that deep light signal and then you see that silver rim in the hole....nothing beats that! Good luck.

Congrats on the gold. Like you all of the gold rings I’ve found have rung as a nickel.

nice hunt. What's your silver total at for the year?

I can't find any silver around here. Looking for even a '64 roosevelt!

I've got 37 silver coins so far this year. I average over 70 a year; so, this is going to be a below average year unless I get a streak going sometime soon.

That's unlikely, but, not impossible. I had fewer than 37 at this time last year and ended up with 110; but, I found the best site of my life on September 21st of last year.

@Bayard1908.... Did you ever research the history of that amazing site? Must have been a reason for so many silver and other coins lost there....Cheers, RickO

Another good day today: 1944 Mercury dime, 1952-S dime, and 24 wheat cents. I don't normally bother to mention clad; however, I dug a shallow hole today that contained a dozen clad quarters, very unusual.

    rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Wow.... a dozen quarters in one hole? Fantastic. That equals a coinstar find of mine a couple of weeks ago with a dozen clad quarters. Cheers, RickO

Certainly don't mind digging large amounts of quarters. In our area it's been crazy dry so it's hard digging. I actually passed on detecting today because I didn't want to deal with the ground. Hope you can reach at least 50 silver this year.

I was pleasantly surprised by today's finds: 1939-D quarter, 1952-D quarter, eleven wheat cents, and a very large 1944 Australian penny.

Silver quarters instead of silver dimes :o Very nice.... That Australian penny is a surprise... was it in good condition? Cheers, RickO

I had two relatively short hunts this weekend.

Saturday: 1946 dime and four wheat cents.
Sunday: 1888 Indian cent, 1896 Liberty nickel, two Buffalo nickels, three wheat cents, and a silver ring. One of the Buffalo nickels is a very strong 1914 and the other needs some acid to bring up a date.

WOW!! That Sunday hunt was amazing....Saturday was good too, but Sunday really produced. Cheers, RickO

I had my most productive hunt in recent memory today: six silver coins, two Buffalo nickels, 11 wheat cents, and a sterling crucifix. The silver coins are a 1943 Mercury dime, 1944-D Mercury dime, 1947 dime, 1952-D dime, 1948 quarter, and 1943-P war nickel.

Buffalo nickel and 12 wheat cents today, no silver.

    Bayard1908Bayard1908 Posts: 3,987 ✭✭✭✭

I was disappointed with yesterday's hunt; so, I went back to the same place for a brief hunt this morning. I got a 1941 Mercury dime and 3 more wheat cents.

The weather got into the 70s on both days this weekend. Chicago might set a record high temperature for November 8th, beating a record established in 1931.

Wow.... No silver, but you knew that could not be right... :D And sure enough, there was silver there...Cheers, RickO

Any hunt that has silver is a success, plus 70+ temps is a win-win

    rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

It has been a great fall.. and 70 degree days in November is really nice.... Most of the leaves are gone here...well, not gone, on the lawn.... :D Cheers, RickO

Good day today: 1940-S Mercury dime, 1943-D Mercury dime, 1954-D dime, Buffalo nickel, three wheat cents, and an old token marked "Bakers Pacers" which is apparently a WWII era gambling machine.

You are detecting a silver dime mine there... :D Cheers, RickO
