Box came today out of the two 86 fleer BB got a Nice Jordan Sticker, all the regular set cards were commons though. Nothing much out of the rest of the lot...a dennis johnson 1978 BB a kareem 78.
I have a Hampton which I think may grade as gem mint, I would be up for a trade.
Got my box today and all looked good, including a very nice 72 5th/6th series pack which I plan to submit to PSA.
My 73 pack was nice and clean but has a tear on the top left corner which would probably limit its grade to a NM 7 at best. As I was not planning to rip these packs, if anyone wants to purchase my 1973 5th series wax pack, I will offer it at a discounted price of $185 dlvd via paypal gift. Just PM me if you are interested in taking it. Thanks!
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
My 2 '86 FB packs yielded off-center Young, Reed and Payton RB. Plus 20 or so nicely centered commons. Other than centering the condition of the cards were superb!
My 2 '85 FB packs yielded a very nice Marino/Montana Leaders card (with a print dot!) and a dozen or so nicely centered commons. Both packs had a mild wax cards and a pretty bad gum card. Overall condition of the cards were great. Also got a killer Moon sticker!!!!
My 2 '84 FB packs yielded no stars. But surprisingly it had 15 or so nice centered (non-tilted) commons. Every one of these cards were in the bottom half of each of the packs. The top half of the pack yielded mostly tilted cards. Also the gum stained the game card and the card on its other side.
My 2 '78 FB packs yielded a nice Bradshaw. As others have stated, these packs are some of the nicest 78 packs I've seen as far a centering goes. The back cards of each pack did have something going on with them, some kind of stains.
I also picked of a full box of the '81 FB in '79 wrappers, I'll dig into that tomorrow!!!!
For those who are interested, below is a thread with some really good information on the packaging/sequencing on the 86-87 Fleer packs that was posted by Reed earlier in the year.
guys, I ripped my two 86 fleer basketball packs. I wish I would have known there was going to be the news about the sequence. I picked mine up in person from bbce the day I paid.. I thought about not ripping and waiting to see what everyone posted.. but lasted maybe 4 hours. The trill of pulling a Jordan eluded me but was fun.. sadly the best card was James Worthy little oc proly an 8 but I did get a real nice Bird sticker.. goes for $1k+ in a 10 sorry for the dusty scan
<< <i>For those who are interested, below is a thread with some really good information on the packaging/sequencing on the 86-87 Fleer packs that was posted by Reed earlier in the year.
I'm sorry but I have a major problem with posting the sequence of any packs. I'm sure there will be guys that check their packs for the Jordan sequence and not open the packs because they don't have the Jordan. In my opinion this is no different than the guys that search packs at Walmart or Target. James
Sorry but i disagree. The difference is we paid for the packs. We can do whatever we want with them. The guy at target and wal mart is searching though packs that are not his!
<< <i>Sorry but i disagree. The difference is we paid for the packs. We can do whatever we want with them. The guy at target and wal mart is searching though packs that are not his! >>
This is true. However, anyone who resells a pack where they already concluded doesn't contain a Jordan and they don't disclose this to potential buyers is dishonest in my opinion.

I can see your point but I would never buy a random pack off ebay or anywhere else... The best chance of pulling the Jordan is from rips like this. For me its buyer beware after this - if you get the pack graded instead of ripping and then sell I don't think there is any reason to disclose the information.

Which is why you don't buy packs like this on ebay.
why does even the simplest fun turn into a disagreement here? if you bought a 86 Fleer pack, enjoy it.
if you didn't, then your opinion only applies to the masses of junk that exist "out there".
the people who bought their packs HERE, acquired them from a trusted source, KNEW that only a limited number of high dollar chase cards were going to emerge, and still bought them anyways.
again. fun. remember? the one thing that seems to be draining from our hobby each day.
please don't accuse other board members in advance of what you fear from the junk "out there".
<< <i>This is true. However, anyone who resells a pack where they already concluded doesn't contain a Jordan and they don't disclose this to potential buyers is dishonest in my opinion. >>
I disagree. There is no guarantee that sequencing will hold true thru the pack (as we've seen this already from one of the packs that yielded a Jordan). There is a chance a Jordan RC could be the 2nd or last card in the pack. Sequencing changes throughout and because the top card is not in a sequence does not guarantee a Jordan is not in the pack.
Are you proposing to say "For sale, 1986 Fleer pack, never opened but it's highly unlikely a Jordan RC is in this pack".
Thanks,

Unfortunately I missed out on the rip. I was dying for some 80-81 Topps basketball but they sold out before I checked the boards. Anyone pull a Magic/Bird yet? I ripped a few packs at the National with no luck. How did you guys get that from BBCE? I check the site for boxes often and never see them!!
Thanks to those posting scans. Good luck to everyone.

Okay, I added my two cents and will drop it to avoid derailing this thread further. I apologize for deviating from the fun. This can be debated in another thread at another time.
All packs from this era as well as 70s baseball follow a sequence which is predicated on the placement of the cards on the sheet though it is common for the sequence to switch in the middle of the pack.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
And I apoligize for posting the link...just thought it was some good info. Not that it guarantees anything. The sequence in my pack flipped after six cards.
Received my package Wednesday and finally got a chance to open it this morning.
Nice packing by BBCE as always with a package in a package
One large group of packs
Here is the baseball, football, and most of the basketball
Rest of the basketball with the hockey
and finally the two empty boxes from the break
In addition, I added a couple of extra items to my break First a 72 rack pack to complete my run my 67 up
And then since I don't think I will ever get an 86/87 Fleer basketball box I decided to go ahead and get one of the 87/88 boxes that Steve had from a sealed case:
I have not looked at the 80/81 basketball packs closely yet so i do not know if I have the one with the rookie card showing. But I did look at my credit card bill. ACCKK I hope the next break is a couple of months off please.
Thanks for putting this together.

Looking for 66 and 69 OPC baseball 60's OPC packs 72 BB, 60's FB, 71FB, 73FB, 74FB, 75FB, 76FB, 78FB Rack Packs 72 and earlier BB cello
I worked in a card shop that sold a ton of these, the sequencing can change mid pack, but there is sometimes a pattern. There's no way to tell for certain if there is a Jordan based on what's on top That being said, the sticker is irrelevant to what's inside the pack

HI ! I'm not a message board person but after seeing this, I had to join up. This is extremely fun to watch and I will join in on the next one. By the way - all packs must be opened !
Just received my package out here in California this afternoon. Here is my report:
Baseball:
The two '72 baseball packs look great. The one '73 baseball pack looks good. A little off on the wrapping, like someone else mentioned earlier, but still good.
There's nobody of consequence showing on any of the packs. Even if there was, I'm not ripping. I would still be curious to hear about sequencing for these years.
Basketball:
The one 80/81 pack looks good, but I'm not the lucky winner of the Bird/Dr J/ Magic showing The two 86/87 packs look great. Here is what I can tell from these two packs:
Pack 1 - Olajuwon sticker and #52 Frank Johnson on the front (looks like a pack or two off) Pack 2 - Thomas sticker and what I think is #25 Larry Drew on the front. I couldn't see the name, but compared the part of the card I could see.
So, unless there is a skip mid-pack that we can deduce from what others have experienced, I'm probably keeping the packs sealed. There doesn't seem to be any card worth ripping the packs for, based on the front card.
Despite what appears to be a miss on any big hits, this was fun! Any feedback / PM's are welcome!
(2) 80/81 basketball I planned to sub. (2) 1986 Football I planned to rip Also added (2) 1979 wax and cello 1 each to rip and 1 each to sub and a 1981 Fleer Football box to rip when I get bored.
I think I got the Bird rookie Erving in the middle with the orange basketball on top. There are a lot of different panels with Erving in the middle but it looks good to me. What do you think.
OK, here are some pictures of my stuff. When I first opened my box all I saw was the 72/73 basketball box and was like.....huh. Until I opened in a found my little treasures.
A couple of notes:
72 BB - These packs are pristine. I mean really, really nice. Was able to see through the back of both packs. A common and a team card. Will send in for grading. 73 BB - Not quite as nice as the 72's but in really nice condition. There was a Pirate on the back. Will send in for grading. 72/73 and 73/74 Bskt - Really nice packs. Couldn't see who was on the back. I may send these in for grading as well. 80/81 Bskt - The thrill of looking on the back hoping I would get the Magic/Bird rookie was just as exciting as opening the pack (though I didn't open ) Norm Nixon was on the center panel of one pack and Elvin Hayes was on the center of the other.
Even though I don't open much, I have just as much fun waiting on the package to get here, opening the box and looking at the packs. It's also a sense of accomplishment for an un-opened collector like me to get a pack that you needed for your collection.
Package came in this afternoon. Thomas sticker on the back of the '86 Fleer BB. Cannot figure out the top card. Can't see anything at the bottom (blue wax), and with the gum covering the left side, I have no idea. Can barely make out the top right Fleer emblem. Please PM if you have any tips or have x-ray goggle that I can borrow.
<< <i>I think I got the Bird rookie Erving in the middle with the orange basketball on top. There are a lot of different panels with Erving in the middle but it looks good to me. What do you think.

Nope. Bird has a blue border on the left panel. That is Jan Van Breda Kolff

81 FB and 80 BB packs were a no show aside from the Reggie below (OC)
86 FB yielded some perks:
also - need some votes on wether to open or grade the 73 pack in the middle - right side is badly folded:
