Yahtzee, I have a Jordan Sticker on the back of one of my 86-87 Fleer Packs. Now, I was going to open all of my packs that I got. But now, I don't know if I'll open this one. Hmmm what to do?

    << <i>Received my 2 cello, 2 wax and 28 '79 racks today!

In true BBCE fashion, everything was packed nicely, and there were several racks with stars on top (Reggie Jackson, Gary Carter etc) ... oh and for you sequences out there, wanna guess who's behind Mr. Mejias? image

Everything you see (aside from the racks with stars on top) are literally on the chopping block.

    image

    image

    image >>

PM me what you'd like for a rack or two.... >>

Getting paul to part with a 79 rack is akin to taking a bone away from a dog, LOL!

I added a couple 79 racks to my order also...hoping it will arrive tomorrow! >>

So, on the chopping block means he will rip? Gotcha. I thought he would sell. I hate that I missed this group rip.

Like a kid in a toy store.

    image

I won the empty 84 FB cello box in the raffle but its got a bit of wear. Oh well.

    image

I got two of each of the football. 84 and 86 cello's across the top and 78, 81 an 85 wax packs across the bottom.

    image

I also threw in a couple baseball for giggles. I don't collect baseball anymore but the 83 Fleer's were always a favorite of mine.

    image

I also added some more football. An 82 and 85 grocery rack pack. Another 78 wax pack from a different box and 2 80 wax packs.

    image

Unfortunately, one of the 81 packs had a bad fold and a torn corner.

    image

I'm going to rip one of the 78 packs, the 81 pack with the torn corner, the 85 packs and one of the 83 Fleer BB cello's. Scans to follow....
  • AricAric Posts: 757 ✭✭
    Two packs down. Two HOF's.

    image

The Elway was one of the best centered cards in the bunch. Its got a bit of of chipping on the right side. I doubt it could pull the 9 I would need to make it worthwhile.

    image
  • Cannot wait for my package to get here in the morning. Going to be fun, what little I rip. lol

I was hoping my package would show up today but was denied. Hopefully tomorrow.

Aric - that is a sharp 85 Topps Elway.

I was going to open just one of the 83 Fleer BB packs and keep the other unopened. The first pack had all well-centered sharp cards but not a single star. I figured I was due a star and would open the second pack.

Well I pulled a star and its a beauty. Centered, corners are razor sharp.

    image

Only one problem, a small notch that only affected three cards in the pack.

    image

Next up...the 78 Topps FB pack. My oldest rip ever....
  • AricAric Posts: 757 ✭✭
Wow, the 78's are nice. 80% of the pack was centered. Super nice corners. Unfortunately, no stars...very tempted to rip the second one.....

    image
  • AricAric Posts: 757 ✭✭
Well, instead of ripping another 78 I decided to try an 84 cello. It was pretty rough...not really any stars and most the cards have that ugly tilt that 84 brought to a new level.

    image
  • nendeenendee Posts: 562 ✭✭✭
Well - I can't quite be certain the card on my 86 Fleer, so instead of going nuts, I'm going to just leave it for now. To scratch my itch (and trust me, lately - I bust nothing!), I decide to open a 78 FB Topps Wax pack. Excuse the lame photo, but I was sorta laying in around and just had my iPhone handy.....

    image

Why is it literally the only pack I've busted in a month hits! Like giving a bad golfer that birdie on 18...

UGH - why did the photo get tilted! let me try one more!

Thx Aric - it is really sharp - you're right, the 78's are incredible - I've busted a pack in the past and they always were OC to the left pretty bad. I'll try to get a sharp image tomorrow morning.

NICE HIT! I can't really tell from the picture but it looks like it might be as sharp as my pack. If so, that could be a biggie. Congrats!

nendee that is an awesome pull. It looks great and centered Congrats...image

Whats up with the 84s football? Who cut these Stevie Wonder!! I have bought a few 84s and some are real nice but others have such a bad tilt it is crazy.
  • KremsKrems Posts: 347 ✭✭
I got my 86 Fleer pack and the card on top was Gus Williams #124! The sequence got me stoked and held up...The forth card down was the Jordan rookie!! The card was sharp but centering was off top to bottom.

I'm having issues uploading the scan for some reason. I'll try to post it tomorrow morning. Other notables in the pack were Chris Mullin, Larry Bird and the sticker was Dominique Williams.

What an unbelievable experience! Jordan was always my favorite athlete growing up and to actually pull one from a pack is unbelievable!!

Overall the cards were razor sharp, centering was an issue on about half of the cards mostly top to bottom centering.
  • Congrads on the Jordan! Can you please give me an example of how the sequencing works so I won't go crazy once my pack arrives?
  • KremsKrems Posts: 347 ✭✭

  • KremsKrems Posts: 347 ✭✭
Thx! I actually just searched some old threads and there was some really good info in there on the sequencing. Its kind of hard to explain, but basically there are two runs of card numbers, 66 cards apart that go in reverse order...the first four cards were #124 Gus Williams, #58 Clark Kellogg, #123 Buck Williams, #57 Michael Jordan. The sequence flipped though one card before the Dominique Wilkins rookie though. NO biggie!! Just glad it held true through the Jordan!

  • Congrats on pulling the MJ. That does look like a solid 8 right there. Must be one hell of a rush. I'm going to need to rip an 86/87 fleer one of these days to go for that rush. Its just such a huge gamble!

thx guys!!! I agree that it'll be an 8 due to the top to bottom centering. Otherwise it is sharp and clean.

I bought the 1986 Topps box to add to my "Unopened boxes I used to bust from when I was a kid" collection.

I am working on a complete run of 1980s football sets in binders so I picked up a few packs just to see if I could upgrade any cards in my sets.

The last group break we did I pulled the Marino rookie.

This time I pulled the Elway, Dickerson, Darrell Green Rookie Marino IA and Dickerson IA in my two cello packs.

The weren't any high grade/centered cards in any of my packs. However, I just enjoy going through the cards and looking for upgrades for my 80s football sets I am working on.

The 1986 Topps cello packs had only one star in them. It happened to be the Steve Young Rookie. I pulled a Rice at the National at the BBCE booth.

  • Yahoo. My package showed up this morning. What a blast. Got a cello with Rose on top. Busted most of it. Grading the 72 & 73 bb wax packs. Here are some pics of the packs and some of my hits. Mark

Mark I violated the opened commandments by opening a 1980 cello that had Mario Soto on the back, did not realize it. But this beauty came outimage
The 86 Topps FB cellos were nice to me as wellimage
    image

    image

The 80/81 Topps basketball were very nice, did not get the pack that had the Bird /Magic rc on bottom. Did however get a Bird in one of the Packs, just the wrong one. lol

  • 2 1980 packs and you get a Henrson Rookie! Awesome. Thats a really nice looking one too but I think the centering makes it an 8. Worth sending it in because 8's have been selling pretty good on eBay so youll defintely get your money back plus a little bit extra for your pocket. Great Pulls overall.
  • Very happy overall. Lots of HOF and commons to grade too. Mark

Is there any sequence on the 1972 baseball packs?

Mine came today...................however, I wasn't home and they left the almighty note saying they would re-deliver. Dangit. Oh well, I will post tomorrow.

BTW, there is still one person that hasn't paid. I have PM'd twice and will do in a few minutes for the 3rd time. This is the second straight rip I have had issues with this. I propose a new rule, if you don't pay or if you don't call/email Steve within a week of the break ending, you are banned from participating in future box breaks. I am not trying to be a dick................but, c'mon, it's not that hard to call/email Steve and tell him that I will pay on such and such a date. I have done that in the past and he will work with you.

  • Well out of four 84 Football, two 86 Football, and four 84-85 OPC I got nothing but horiibly OC semistars and commons. I did get one Howie Long RC that was so far OC I am emabrrased to show it image, lol. But I was most excited to open the OPC as it is by far my favorite year of Hockey look wise and all the RCs in it are wants for my pc. Oh well better luck next time and more luck for the rest of you guys.
  • Also if anyone pulls a gradable Dwight Clark RC, Roger Craig RC, Mark Bavaro RC, or Carl Banks RC and are willing to part with it, shoot me a pm. Good luck all and hope you all pull some more Jordans and Bird/Magic Rookies!

    I recieved my packs today
    2-78 fb
    4-81 fb
    2-84 fb
    2-86 fb
The 78s were definately the best as far as centering and corners, got a Team Bears card that is really nice.
The 84s were horrible tilt cards. I did get a Long and Green rookie but too badly cut to submit.
The 81s were very nice and only star was Dorsett but i can use others to upgrade set.
The 86s had the most star as 1 pack got White and Smith rookies with Montana.
It is always great to rip some packs from the past and can't wait for the next one. I almost forgot the highlight was the 78 football box that Marks daughter pulled my name was in Great condition. Thanks to Mark and his daughter and BBCE for a fun rip!!

    Scottie,

My daughter has been reading this thread and the smile on her face everytime someone recognizes her is priceless. Thanks to everyone who has thanked her. It means more to her and I than you will ever know.

Also, this has been a good rip so far. A bunch of HOF rookies and nice stars. Looks like the 84 FB is not great but we all know that is the chance you take with them. We have been lucky that the last 3 rips we have had some decently centered cards.

Looks like we have only one Jordan in the 86 Fleer packs so far.

Anyone else pull a Jordan rookie?
