These were some recent additions. I like these Yamakatsu cards. It was nice to add these to my collection and get a chance to see some graded while my Sheik gets graded.
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
It is has been a pretty action packed day. I purchased this card Monday and it came in the mail today. This has to be one of the coolest collectibles I own. Bruiser Brody was a legitimate bad ass and feared in the wrestling world for his antics in the ring and out. In the days before sports entertainment the wrestling business was a very tough business and few dared cross Frank Goodish or better known by his in ring name Bruiser Brody. On the fateful day of July 17th 1988 he was stabbed in the locker room in Puerto Rico and bleed to death. His autograph is one of the most sought after of anyone who has wrestled and even more so on this item. Here you have a mint condition 1982 Wrestling All Stars card signed by the wrestling legend himself. This was long before wrestling conventions when performers became available to the public and there was only a six year window where this card could have been signed. A long time employee of the Omni in Atlanta where many huge NWA Wrestling cards took place owned this piece of wrestling history. I am thrilled to add this to my collection!!!!!!
I can't stop watching Youtube clips of Brody. His wrestling style was amazing and he has some incredible interviews.
<< <i>I am so excited to add this to my collection. What an amazing piece of wrestling history. So pumped to add something so cool like this to my collection.
So I threw in a bid on the Austin Idol BGS 9 that was just in the PWCC auction. I never dreamed I would win it for less then $10 plus shipping. I sent an email to him through his site to send the card to him to get signed. I sent in the message I had no problem paying his fee. It turns out he charges $35 for an auto which is insane. I had said I was interested so I said I will send the card Tuesday once I get it and sent him the $35 like I said I would.
I just got it in the mail. It is an 1/8 of an inch small side to side. It is mind boggling how many of these Wrestling All Stars in BGS holders are trimmed. I have a few high profile one's left that I know are trimmed and they are just sitting in the vault. This will be cracked and sent but disappointing none the less since it is butchered.
They trim them top to bottom and side to side. It is crazy. I only have less then five left from the sets in BGS slabs and two are trimmed top to bottom which stinks. High profile cards in the grade too.
I just got these back in the mail today. I got a total of 25 cards signed with a handful being duplicates. Some nice additions to my signed collection.
I sent this off to Austin Idol through his website. His prices are high but since I had emailed him and asked if he would sign a card and that I was fine with what his fee was I went ahead with the deal.
In the email exchange I asked him if he would inscribe Idolmania. He had no response. Once I sent the card off I said I hope you will consider adding the inscription and once again no response.
A few days after he received it I got an email that said card signed as requested and he provided a tracking number. After a very disappointing scenario with the Carnation Koloffs card this was my first package that showed delivered but wasn't. Fortunately the mail carrier had just put it in the wrong box at the mail kiosk and we got it resolved two days later.
This came out great. Many do not realize but Idol began using Idolmania before Hulk began using Hulkamania. Both took their gimmick from Superstar Billy Graham and obviously Hogan's career went in an entirely different direction.
My auto guy Erik just got these done for me and I got them back in the mail a few days ago.
I didn't scan all of them but here are some of my favorites.
The primary card I wanted signed was the Market Scene of The Rockers. Apparently Marty Jannety was super hammered when he got there in the morning and his auto didn't come out that great in relation to how he signs when he isn't smashed.
I got two of these done.
This one seems to have come out the best.
I got a few Sid's done and really like this shot.
I love dual signed cards and this one is awesome. The Warlord and Barbarian were huge dudes.
I really like this shot of him.
Koko B Ware in his early days.
Missy Hyatt looked great at this point in her life.
Missy turned into a mess. Pretty typical of the women from this era.
It is a shame so many that have been trimmed have made it by Beckett. I only have a few of the All Stars left in their slabs and rarely will buy them. For less then $10 I thought I was getting a steal but not the case.
Nothing wrong with catching a buzz in the morning but apparently this wasn't just a buzz but was smashed. Could barely write his name. Shawn used to be a mess too but he became religious which seems to be the only way out from that lifestyle. I was just on vacation and had champagne one morning and vodka the next but we are talking about two different levels here.
I haven't been buying much so the signed cards are filling the void for new acquisitions. I am one of those idiots that check their order a few times a day from day one so hoping it pops soon to add some fresh graded cards to my collection.
Thanks for checking out the thread. I realize these cards aren't as exciting as Mantle's but it is fun and you have to collect what you like. I tried watching Raw last night and it saddens me every time I tune in that it is that bad. These cards represent a time when wrestling was awesome.
My grades just popped. Some hits and misses. I am not certain why one of the Rocky Mavia cards didn't grade so on hold with PSA now to find out. From 39 and down are cards someone else had me send in for them.

This was the second time I have sent this one to PSA. The first time they didn't grade them yet.
I have been wanting to get this card graded for a while. After handling the Andre cards from the 1974 set I thought this had a solid chance at an.
The bulk of the cards I sent in were from the Market Scene sets. I busted a Series II box a while ago and sent in the better copies I had. This was the only 10. I thought I would hit a few but it wasn't the case this time.
I purchased a good number of the sealed sets looking for nice copies of this card. It looks pretty good in a holder.
This is definitely the best card in the sub. I was beyond thrilled when I hit a 9 on my last submission so it wasn't quite the thrill from a collecting standpoint but an exciting hit none the less.
Cool sub. I like that Rock card. I have 2 at psa now too. I'm not expecting anything great for grades..I just wanted them slabbed. I was suprized the graded on eBay never sold. The set isn't super rare but it's not really common either. I never even knew about it until you mentioned it in a post a few months ago.
Someone nailed a Fabulous Moolah PSA 9 yesterday. If that comes to EBAY it will get some serious action. So far the fresh PSA 9 Andre has not come to market and I figured we would see that offered through PWCC.
This is my best Moolah. It is a near perfect card but you can see the tiny chip on the left edge.
I am not sure if PWCC will ever label any of the wrestling cards they offer as high end for the grade but if so these are a few I think qualify.
It was fun scanning these.
There are no 10's so far of this card.
This card is a Pop 2 in a 10 and this is a super high end example.
This is a Pop 2 in a 10 and I don't own one. This is a sharp card.
I lost the only 9 to ever surface and I put in a serious bid. This is a great looking copy.
I purchased so many copies of this card and busted quite a few sealed sets and broke them. This is an amazing looking card and especially for the back card in the sealed set.
This is a great looking card with the least amount of black smudge along the bottom I have ever seen in a sharp copy.
Savage and Elizabeth has been a POP 4 for a year and a half now. I think PSA 9 has stalled at 30 for quite some time as well. That Andre card is outstanding.
The Savage and Elizabeth is one of my favorite cards. I self subbed this as the first PSA 10 and pulled it from a lot of 24 cards I got for a few bucks. I opened it at work and drove home to put it in a card saver.
I am really pleased with the Andre. The card is really tough to locate and this one is a great looking example.
I hit the 4th Savage / Elizabeth 10 two summers ago. I was thrilled as well as that is one I wanted in a 10 for my set. There are several key cards in that set I don't think I'll ever get in 10 - someone I know has them and is unlikely to ever part with them lol.
I had a chance to watch the documentary on the Iron Sheik this weekend and pulled my set off the wall to check out his card and re scan it with the black background. It is amazing how much better cards look with this type of scan. While I was at it I scanned a few others.
It is always interesting how population trends play out. It took nearly six years of the cards being actively submitted for a Fabulous Moolah to achieve a grade of mint and just a few months for a second copy to achieve the grade. When I checked this morning one graded mint yesterday. There have been a handful of high profile cards in the past few months that have never surfaced on EBAY including the third mint Andre The Giant. Hopefully this one makes it's way to EBAY as I would love to add another one to my collection.
It didn't take long for the second Moolah in a PSA 9 to hit EBAY. The centering on this card is spectacular. I wondered why it wasn't a 10 and the upper right corner on the reverse is barely touched. A truly beautiful card.
You can barely see the white in the upper left corner.
I have been trying to track down one of these programs for my collection at a reasonable price for awhile and finally got one. I first became interested in it because it features the photo used for the Harley Race card but soon realized it is the program that features the debut of The Fabulous Hulk Hogan in Madison Square Garden from December 17th 1979 where he takes on Ted Dibiase. A great artifact from wrestling history.
I honestly never thought this card would surface. When PSA interviewed me years ago I was asked to highlight some of the best cards and I naturally chose the Kerry Von Erich. In the article I stated I didn't think a PSA 10 would ever surface and I was wrong.
Growing up in Orlando without cable television in the early 80's the only wrestling content we got to see was Championship Wrestling From Florida and by 1985 the WWF had made it on network television. My parents bought me a paperback copy of a wrestling book and it had this incredibly muscular wrestling on the cover holding the NWA Heavyweight Title belt. I had no clue who it was and finally put two and two together a few years later when my neighbor let me watch wrestling in his room on ESPN. It was none other then Kerry Von Erich. I followed his career from that point forward until his unfortunate death at 33.
This was the only centered copy I really had ever seen.
Since I started collecting the cards in 2009 there was really no other high grade copy I wanted more and remember going all out on the first PSA 9. I self subbed the second and then the PSA 8.5. My heart sank when I got the text from the collector who owned this card and was sending it in to PSA because it was without question the best copy I had ever seen and I wanted it.
Unexpectedly the doorbell rang this morning and the two cards I just won Thursday night were being delivered. I am so excited to add this card to my collection.
Here are other magazine clippings that feature the photo used for this great card.
I have worked really hard to track down the best copies of every card in the Wrestling All Stars sets. I have countless copies of this card and it is plagued by terrible top to bottom centering, a black line that runs through the W, damaged corners and a lot of ink smudging by his name.
This is a tremendous example and had there not been an ink spot by the T perhaps the first PSA 10.
I got stretched to the limit winning the Kerry Von Erich card and had to tap out and not put in my high bids on a few others but was fortunate enough to take this one home at a solid price and knock off another card needed in top grade.
Always enjoy your updates and congrats on your sweet acquisitions, David. For the king of wrestling cards to finally harpoon a gem Von Erich just goes to show how difficult it is to land some of these babies in high grade. I perused the pop report just now and sure enough, there's some serious elusiveness in this set. Not even a 9 for Ray Stevens!
Any idea how many of these sets were produced back in the day?

Thanks or checking out my posts. Yeah many are ridiculously tough. There still isn't a Hogan 10 and even though he is cold right now a Gem Mint Hogan copy would go for big cash. The Ray Stevens is one of the cards that may never achieve a mint grade. I have never seen a copy that had better then 70/30 centering side to side and it is green which easily shows wear. I don't think anyone really know exactly how many. I thought it was perhaps no more then 2,000 but after speaking with Jim Cornette on the phone about the cards he said Norman Keitzer was ridiculously cheap and he said he thought that he might have made no more then 500 sets of the first one which he was given a copy as his photos are used for a few of the cards. If you look at the pop reports there are less then 200 copies in total for example of the Hogan graded so it can't be that many. One of the reasons some of the cards are tough is the position on the sheet but in some cases what is even more of an issue is the position in the cello pack. The first two sets are not in numerical order so the Kerry Von Erich for example is upside down and the second card in so corners are much more at risk than a card in the center of the pack. I started actively grading these in April of 2010 so we are pretty far down the road of nice cards that could exist. Either way I still check everyday and will continue to do so.

Did not know he was from Detroit!!
I sent this in with my current sub. I think it should grade at least a 7.
This Dusty is going to look great slabbed. If they had decided to grade these with a number grade clearly this card would grade very high.
I really like this one.
The ultimate mystery card in my collection. Glad I bought it either way.
I love this shot of the King. He was set to face Hulk Hogan later in the day before Hogan's career in New York took off.
When my auto guy Erik got this signed he said Ron Simmons loved this card. He was excited to see himself stretching Steve Austin. This came out great.
This is a great shot of the Superfly from the Garden in 1983 leaping off the shoulders of Andre.
I saw this sticking out and had to create a side ways scan. This sticker is awesome.

Here are some scans of a few.
This is my best Moolah. It is a near perfect card but you can see the tiny chip on the left edge.
I am really pleased with the Andre. The card is really tough to locate and this one is a great looking example.
Here is the full album. I am really pleased with how it looks.
Mega set album
Album looks great. Nice have it digital so you don't have to dig it up everytime you want to look at it
Thanks for checking it out.
You can barely see the white in the upper left corner.
Here is the link to the match.
Debut Match
Any idea how many of these sets were produced back in the day?
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
This is really exciting. Rob and I helped with the article and Kevin did a great job writing it.
I am anxious to get my copy.
