I've been absent for some time, upon my last return I heard that a different forum member had passed and it's very unfortunate that Abe has passed recently. How fortuitous for all of us that we had the experience and gift of knowing a person of such high wit, integrity, and emotion. I personally relish the time spent on the forums and the knowledge and experience I have gained through conversation. In my correspondence with Bear as a YN, and a new member to the forums I was gifted with one message that has essential; resounding meaning.
The advise I can give you is this. You will meet many
people in your life. Attempt to absorb those traits you
admire and respect, from people that you respect. Encorporate
these traits with your own sense of moral authority and decentcy,
while regecting all that you see that is churlish, mean spirited and
unethical. It sounds to me as if you are well on your way on the right
path.

Been away from the boards for a few months. First I have heard of this. Horrible to hear, as he seemed like a great human being. The boards will not be the same.
It's hard to believe that it's been a year already. It seems like only yesterday that he was posting here.

I am one of the many who only knew Bear through his post and he for certain is very missed , there is a certain void in the forums with his passing. Bear always offered diverse knowledge and made an effort to encourage and expand this hobby simply by his good nature he expressed in the words he would write. The passion he had for numismatics was very clear in his post. Good looking out to restart this post , Its good to remember one of the good guys.
<< <i>According to their recent Market Report - Legend Morphy February auction will feature his 'almost box of 20' collection.

Guess his inheritors decided they'd rather have the cash than the appreciating asset.... That's a shame. I was under the impression that Bear wanted his almost box of 20 to stay together for a lot longer than 2 years. >>
That is a shame, but sometimes, you need the money. I don't know the situation.
I'll bet those coins will go high ... he had a great eye.
Bear and I met at the Long Beach coins shows often and he definitely had an eye for beautiful coins. I sold a few as Abe was never one to shy away from paying full retail on a coin he wanted.
Never met the man, but corresponded a few times, but with my being a 'kid', the way he verbalized his knowledge, IMO, was done just so not only those of you who knew him and do have that knowledge, but to everyone, newbs as well as veterans, as I, being young (for a few years I was, by the loose definition of the term, was a YN). Even before joining, I lurked, because, as a 'kid', I knew I had a lot to learn. I learned, and keep learning from all of you. He not only shared his knowledge, but wisdom, and wit, but most importantly, he was a GOOD MAN, with or without his coins. He made an impression on me, that a true gentlemen gets respect....he certainly was that, and always will be just that, a REAL gentleman, and a good man, one who shared his life with us, made us laugh, and did show us all his knowledge, wisdom and wit.
I recall Bear posting that as he was dying he was putting together his fantastic box of 20 as a means of passing on an appreciating asset to Mrs. Bear that she would have in the future as a financial asset to fall back on if needed. I too was under the impression that it would be socked away for years. I/we never know however the specific circumstanes of any one family. No matter what, I am sure Bear is resting peacefully. A good man.

Been sidetracked for so long with only quick runs into the darkside ... I can't believe I missed this
How very sad - I am speechless - Abe the wise bear was the greatest mentsch on the boards....forever!
The always eternal optimist, calm insights, and remarkable wisdom that would quiet the most viral board members (some that have been fed to the
creepeth water mammals in the Bay of E over the years)... there is just not enough to say other then what a testament to an individual when you
read 400 posts of only true praise, and love for one that can not be duplicated.

Abe collected beautifully toned MS-64's & MS-65's, and I'd collect them in AU-58.

And I'm thankful for the kind heart of a member like RYK, who remembered Bear's one year anniversary...
I sure miss him, and his great posts, and/or words of wisdom. These boards were better when he was here.
Just wondering, does anyone know if Bear was a Veteran?
RIP Peace Abe.

May we all be a little more like Bear in the coming year.
