Advanced collector of BREWERIANA. Early beer advertising (beer cans, tap knobs, foam scrapers, trays, tin signs, lithos, paper, etc)....My first love...U.S. COINS!
Bear basicly told us this was coming and included us in all of his preparations. He sounded very happy with his preparations and as ready as one can be for the end. I hope I can go as gracefully. RIP to a great man. --jerry
It is with deepest regret that I read this. Bear was unique, humorous, and obviously loved the hobby. At times, he seemed like the only voice of reason on the forums. Bear, you will be truly missed. Adieu, mon ami!

Although I never corresponded with Bear, he made me feel very welcome when I joined this forum; I will always remember that. My prayers go out to his family at this very sad time.
1. Quality if life,..... above subsistence, but minimal in many respects.
2. Debt load............Heavy and doubtful of repayment

4.Our children will live better then the parents....Grown children are returning home or are dependent on assistance from parents to keep the afloat.
5. Store PMs.....It is hard to store PMs when you are having trouble keeping your home out of forclosure and buying food and gas.

7. Hope......A greatly diminished aspect of life.
8. Do we live better then the rest of the world.....Yes, but the standard of living is diminishing for Americans.
9. New technology will replace industrial jobs lost to world tgrade and outsourcing. Perhaps, but exactly how many decades will it take before this may happen. How do people survive for those long decades.

Knowing his time was short does not lighten the sorrow of hearing this news. The word that comes to mind I would use to describe him is grace. I greatly admired his gentle spirit, his passion for coins, his faith and his courage these past few months. He leaves a void here. I don't know how populous it is in heaven, but I am certain that Abe is there.
My sincere condolences to Abe's family and my fellow board members who knew him.
RIP, Bear, and I will raise a jelly donut to you tomorrow.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
A great contributor and obviously a great man I never got a chance to meet.
Many people I have come to know as I've gotten older have mentioned the only things we can give while we are here or take with us when we go are 'relationships'. Bear had fine ones with many of us. We are all better for having known him.
I was just wondering how he was doing the other day. He was such a big help back then when i needed some advice. May you rest in Peace Bear! Thank you for all the help you extended and I for one will miss your words of Wisdom! You will surely be missed.
<< <i>I am sorry that he is gone. It's certainly not unexpected, but it is very sad nonetheless. We had a nice PM exchange about a month ago. He had returned to the forum, after an absent period, and I sent him my well wishes. Here was his reply (which bring a tear to my eyes to reread them):
"Robert, It is not that I am well, or stand even the slightest
chance of making it thru the first of the year. It is probably
a case of the candle burning brightest, just before it is
extinguished. However, It has been a good life and I am
content to face the future, however short that future may be.
Thank you for your concern and your kind words.
They have always been a comfort to me. God bless you. Regards, Abe"
He was a classy man to the very end. Rest in peace, my friend. >>
Wow, if that doesnt bring a tear to your eye nothing will This says a lot about "The Man", Im truly touched.
+++ We knew him not Bear (Abe), for we are relatively new to Collectors Universe. However, we wish to express our sympathy to Abe's family members. If Abe followed the road of Our Master, Yahshua The Messiah (Jesus Christ), we truly feel most certain that Abe shall be redeemed, namely his soul, by the transfiguration. Our prayers are with his family.

Been out for awhile and didn't think my 1000th post would be a condolence and a RIP. I never met Bear but he came across as a really good guy in his PM's. In honor, I'll post one of his former coins, I'm sure it was a favorite of his:
Someone should package these notes and pass them onto his family. He was obviously well respected and everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) has a kind word to say about him. What I enjoyed most is the occasionally thread that turnes into ugly name calling rant and Bear would simply join the thread with the ever-constructive "how about a donut" attitude. Class all the way. Never stooped low and a model for us all. You'll be missed!

It is said that we bring nothing into this world, and we leave this world with nothing.
I have never agreed with that statement. While I do not plan to exit this plane of existence
with my coin collection sewn into my vest. I expect to leave my last conscious moment, with the
most valuable of all I possess. ........................Memories.
It often takes merely a sound, a song, a scent or even a scenic view, for a part of the brain
to recall something that is often rare to you beyond the value of gold and silver. The emotion of that
moment of recall is almost overwhelming in its intensity and emotion. It may have been a major event
in your life or one of those fleeting moments of happiness and sheer joy ,that flies before you on
gossimer wings and then seems lost in the mist of time. It is not really ever lost, it is stored away
with all the other knowledge and memories somewhere in the brain. Sometimes these fleeting periods
of recall are so strong ,that tears of joy or sadness will flow down your cheeks. Or a soft laughter will
rise up in your throat and for a moment, a magical moment, you feel reborn ,when all was new and clean
and fresh. When you had a lifetime stretching before you as far as your eye could see. The mind is a
powerful and wonderful organ. It can recreate a moment in time with remarkable fidelity. To be sure,
we tend to cleans all that was negetive and retain all that was poinient, happy and innocent.
this is what you carry with you all of your life and these memories of a lifetime ,are what you will carry
with you in that last measure of conscious time.
