Just got my grades in. Happy I was able to get a 70 set. Couldn't make a 69 set. All my Silver Eagles bullion (no mint mark) got 70s, 2011-W PR got 3, other three got one each. I had mine consecutively graded. Didn't do much good since I have no single same grade set. Live in the big city.

I thought the rules for bulk submission say you can't have more than 4 different years or mint marks or you will pay all the fees on everything? So how were these 5 different coins submitted bulk submission.
Below is what it says on the PCGS site.
Improper submissions include submitting less than the minimum quantity of coins and/or including more than four different date/mint mark combinations. At PCGS' discretion the submitter may be contacted and offered the choice of changing to another submission level and paying the incremental fee. Fair warning: we will allow no exceptions on this issue.
Bulk program requirements:
100 coin minimum No more than four different date or mint mark combinations Estimated 30-day turnaround.
Cost:
$10 per coin that makes the minimum grade assigned by you. There is a 60% minimum. If less than 60% of the coins do not make your grade you will be charged $5 each for the coins that failed to meet the minimum.
Is it worth buying a RP 70 or are they priced crazy? >>
I would wait it out for the massive flood to come out in the next couple of weeks. Right now, with the supply so scarce, you will be paying a stiff premium.
I just got my grades back on my coins. One of my 2011-W’s was graded by PCGS as 92-CLEANED! – and I sent them all in the original mint packaging! Has anyone encountered coins from the mint that have been cleaned prior to sending? I'm actually happy about my grades. Overall not bad, wish I had a 2011-P 70 though - and that darned "cleaned" coin "fresh" from the mint?!

Guess stuff happens during assembly! Maybe a few coins fell to the ground when a box or two fell during packaging. Someone picked them up and loaded your box and someone else's with the wrong coin. Someone else probably got 2 no-mint mark coins. As for my set, maybe a coin dropped and someone wiped it off quickly with a t-shirt and placed it back in the box? Or, I thought maybe the coin was loose in the box and rubbed back and forth against the velvet-like material, scratching the coin's surface.... Who knows?

Sorry about your luck, but when you receive your coins please update the thread with pics or more info on that cleaned coin if you don't mind. I'm wondering if it was loose at some point and a mint employee used dirty cloth to wipe the coin or something? Hhhhmmmmm....

With all these quality control issues at the Mint, I am not sure upgrading their computer system is their only serious problem. Having a streamlined and state-of-the-art ordering system will be nice, but I would like to know that the Mint is dedicated to quality control and will heed the complaints regarding the fiasco some of the buyers had with the set. I think it will behoove them to address this matter. No need to have the best computer system to sell lumps of coal.
OK, someone please digest this and give the classic guys the real skinny. MJ

I think that cleaned coin could very well be a big prize considering the trend in label collecting. Think about it, it has the set label and it is not one of the coins unique to the set. Since that is the case you know it had to have been sent in a sealed box. This means you can tell by the label that is was cleaned at the mint. I guess it could have been cleaned at PCGS, but that seems less likely. At any rate we have a Set coin in a genuine holder. That has to be a unique coin, or at least an extremely low population coin.

It doesn't prove anything to me about the population report. The anomoly in the population report is in the ratio of MS 70's to MS 69's. Not slabbing MS 68's does nothing at all to that ratio.
<< <i>The anomoly in the population report is in the ratio of MS 70's to MS 69's. >>
The real anomaly is the ratio of 70s to 69s when looking at First Strike vs. non-First Strike. The First Strike are still running better than 65% 70s (approx a 4 to 3 ratio) whereas the non-First Strike are running in the opposite direction with less than 33% 70s (better than 2 to 1 ratio of 69s to 70s). Granted, the non-First Strike population is very small right now, but let's see how the numbers play out over the next few weeks...
Based on grades posted by forum members,It looks like the Non FS coins are an accurate representation of the true grades of the 25th ASE sets. Using minimum grades or maybe big time dealers were somehow allowed to preview/cherry pick the initial submissions and throw off the numbers . So the first strike numbers aren't close to reality.
If you drove to a show or PCGS headquarters , could you ( esp a really big submitter)open the box in front of rep and preview your coins before submission? I am not the best grader in the world but with a decent light can spot the small break(s) on most 69's pretty quickly, bet the pros are even faster and more accurate. A quick preview could skew the FS numbers towards the high 70's and the dealers sell the others as opened sets and save a ton on grading. Something like this had to happen otherwise where were the scattered 68's and lower grades? Defies logic that big dealers are super lucky getting mostly 70's and board member submit 5 sets and it's tough to get one or two sets of 70's.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the non FS coins fare when the pop reports have larger numbers.
I asked for some light to be shed on the anomolies in the population report several days ago in another thread that Don Willis had replied in already. Nothing yet.

I think we are closing in to a 50/50 split for First Strike 69 and 70. For me, this is better than those NGC grades. I bet their 70's are far above the 69's. Anyone know the pop report for NGC?
As for the non-first strike.. There are only less than 100 coins graded so it's hard to analyze the numbers.
It's not just that the ratios of non-FS are lower than FS... it's pretty obvious from the recent submissions on the PCGS shared orders and on the orders that have been posted here (and from the pop data) that PCGS is not awarding as many 70s on the later submissions than they did on the earlier submissions.
We can all speculate on why that is the case, but only PCGS can give the real answer. But as one that didn't get mine in early I think that it smells a bit.
Regarding the earlier bulk submissions: I wonder if the mega submitters set a min grade at 69, eliminating them getting 68's or below. I would guess that they would just take back the lower graded coins and sell them as raw sets. This may be a factor on the high ratio of 70's.

Exactly why as a member of both NGC and PCGS I sent my sets to NGC and am still very happy about that call. (Well that coupled with $18 per coin to print a few extra letters on the label)

Not really. The early ratio of 70/69 is what is way out of whack compared to shared order results now being posted. Not slabbing 68's would not do a single thing to that ratio.
When comparing the ratio of 69 to 70 does it really matter if you factor minimum grade? Say early submissions are 2 to 1 in favor of 70 and now it reverses 2 to 1 in favor of 69s. regardless of the minimum grade it shows a definite tightening on grading or a drop in quality from the mint.

I don't buy the reduced quality from the mint approach. Maybe on a box or two of sets yes, but on 2 substantially sized groups of sets, no way. If you randomly split all 100,000 sets into 100 groups of 1000 sets, I'd bet my entire collection that the quality of each group would be very similar.

In addition... This should also reduces the number of, non S and RP, "Set" labeled coins.

100 coin minimum
No more than four different date or mint mark combinations
Estimated 30-day turnaround.
Cost:
$10 per coin that makes the minimum grade assigned by you. There is a 60% minimum. If less than 60% of the coins do not make your grade you will be charged $5 each for the coins that failed to meet the minimum.

That is hilarious!! Say it ain't so. I think it will be a nice novelty coin. Hopefully, there aren't any more out there. It defies logic.
<< <i>I just got my grades back on my coins. >>
I was notified by the graders that when they opened one of my sealed sets it had two W uncircs and no bullion coin without the mintmark.

OUCH! Only one 70 out of 10 keys and a cleaned coin to boot.

Ok I have to ask where did you find this? In the shared order page? If this is true it proves why the pop report was so high in the beginning, and I wonder if Mitch can clarify that the Dealers were NOT allowed to request a min grade? I know he said they had to PAY for every coin. Sure makes you wonder..Enjoy Congrats on your grades JohnInLBC

Yes, it was the shared orders page for November.

We can all speculate on why that is the case, but only PCGS can give the real answer. But as one that didn't get mine in early I think that it smells a bit.

<< <i>It's not just that the ratios of non-FS are lower than FS... it's pretty obvious from the recent submissions on the PCGS shared orders and on the orders that have been posted here (and from the pop data) that PCGS is not awarding as many 70s on the later submissions than they did on the earlier submissions.
We can all speculate on why that is the case, but only PCGS can give the real answer. But as one that didn't get mine in early I think that it smells a bit. >>
Exactly why as a member of both NGC and PCGS I sent my sets to NGC and am still very happy about that call. (Well that coupled with $18 per coin to print a few extra letters on the label)
<< <i>Regarding the earlier bulk submissions: I wonder if the mega submitters set a min grade at 69, eliminating them getting 68's or below. I would guess that they would just take back the lower graded coins and sell them as raw sets. This may be a factor on the high ratio of 70's. >>
Not really. The early ratio of 70/69 is what is way out of whack compared to shared order results now being posted. Not slabbing 68's would not do a single thing to that ratio.

<< <i>When comparing the ratio of 69 to 70 does it really matter if you factor minimum grade? Say early submissions are 2 to 1 in favor of 70 and now it reverses 2 to 1 in favor of 69s. regardless of the minimum grade it shows a definite tightening on grading or a drop in quality from the mint. >>
I don't buy the reduced quality from the mint approach. Maybe on a box or two of sets yes, but on 2 substantially sized groups of sets, no way. If you randomly split all 100,000 sets into 100 groups of 1000 sets, I'd bet my entire collection that the quality of each group would be very similar.
The most interesting coin in that report is the 2011-S MS65
<< <i>Regarding the earlier bulk submissions: I wonder if the mega submitters set a min grade at 69, eliminating them getting 68's or below. I would guess that they would just take back the lower graded coins and sell them as raw sets. This may be a factor on the high ratio of 70's. >>
In addition... This should also reduces the number of, non S and RP, "Set" labeled coins.
To even this out somebody must've been getting 80-90% 70's that is quite hard to explain
<< <i>It is still hard to explain myself getting 5 70s out of 25 yielding 20% rate but yet pop report showing 65% 70s for First strike.
To even this out somebody must've been getting 80-90% 70's that is quite hard to explain >>
Yeah or even 90-100% You are 45% under the initial average. 45% over it would be 110%
