lucky you....i have busted 3 different of those value boxes and gotten 2 sp's, 1 red, and 2 inserts. in other words - the poo-poo platter.
  • Options
The value boxes haven't been that great for me. Bought four of them and got a refractor of Robinson Cano. Not much else but I did redeem a code card and got a David Wright die cut.

For those that didn't catch my show report from yesterday, Kurt left me a little gift at one of the dealer booths - an Ethier black refractor and a Kuroda base chrome.

Today's mail yielded a nice gift from another old friend. Nick (nam812) sent me both needed Target red borders, Kershaw & Kemp.

I just bought two blister packs. These include 3 packs of cards and one pack of black border cards. A few observations:

    1) The blister packs looked old and were beaten up.
    2) The hit is in a different place, NOT the third card from the back but the 4th card.
    3) I did not open up either black border pack, one had Ryan Howard on the front and the other had a Home Run leader card, but the border wasn't black it was white. anyone
    pull any of these?
    4) I did not pull a Koufax auto

White Bordered in the three card exclusive pack? that ive never heard of. is the card on the back numbered starting with "HP"?

ive been able to find 9 blister packs so far, and all of them have the "old beaten up" look do to the black borders. the packs looked that way last year as well for the 2011 Blisters in the 30 or so blisters that i opened

The ebay listings for the black bordered cards all show cards 92-100 do not have black borders but are numbered HP. Some listings push "possible ssp", but none of these eight cards are listed with a black border.

so topps makes black bordered cards that look like black refractors on ebay pictures and numbered they the same on the back hp##? Some poeple have been
paying obscene prices for Jeter. Do they think they are the black refractors?

Sorry if this has been covered in this thread, but I have a question on card #280, Brett Lawrie. On the back it shows the RBI column with Steals info (see bio). (I noticed how there were more HRs than RBIs.)

Was this a variation or just an uncorrected error? Here's the card back:

    Jim,

Your punishment for that joke is you must now send me any card on my list that you may have (*cough* wolf red *cough*)

I exchanged emails last week with a collector who says he has a Mays autoproof locked away in a safety deposit box. He has assured me that when the card sees the light of day again he will send me a scan.

Scares me to think what I would pay for that card if one came up for auction.

Does anyone know for sure if that card was distributed as a box topper or redemption?

and if I owned a Willie Mays autoproof the first thing I would do before putting it in my safe deposit box would be to take a scan or picture of it. Just saying.

I have still never seen one, not to mention 25.

I believe there was two price drops to the 2011 value boxes. They could be even cheaper than 10 bucks. I still think these are loaded.
