I apologize if I have not found the answer under other posts, but I have not read them all. I have purchased 40 blaster boxes and not one color swap or image swap. Lots of other nots, but lets stick to this. Are these only in Hobby boxes or non-blasters?
Thanks, Luke
Looking for 77 cloth 9s and 10s. 54 Red Hearts and now 64 Stand ups
So I've ripped 3 hobby boxes and have been pretty happy with the results. A few image swaps, the right amount of SP's, Montero auto, etc...but has anyone else noticed that the chrome refractors seem much tougher to come by? I only got 1 in 72 packs. Harder than I remember. Am I crazy?
I have yet to see a color swap or image swap in retail. I believe it is hobby only. I did get a JFK card in retail though.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Is the general distribution this year that the important auto / relic cards are coming out of retail and the standard distribution (one or two common player autos per case) are in hobby?
It seems from reading the thread that topps is putting the big hits in retail... does that sound right...?
yea, topps really enjoys slapping the serious collector in their faces, its really really sad when their lowest cards ie; series one,, is better quality than the fan based Heritage in looks. last years look floored me that so many thought they looked good. most of mine went in the shredder and will go to good use for our camp fire this summer.

That tells me there is a lOT of product out there, the opposite thinking of my original expectation. Heavy seeding would indicate a lighter print run. Atleast that's how I see it, they got to get those 19,630 chromed out there, and I would think they would want to do that by an even distribution.

I am interested in any Pirates buybacks. Let me know when you find them.
I bought a couple of blasters yesterday. This is the best quality I have seen in terms of not pulling beat-up cards. I am still not tempted enough to chase this whole set. I'll buy a master set in July of August.
Best of luck to those brave souls still ripping!!
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason. Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason. My Pirates Collection
Second best card in the case: Chris Carpernter Clubhouse Collection
43 SPs total.
Not a great break or value -- I am feeling ill now. Where are the retail autos? I know I have opened more than 500+ retail packs. You would think I would have had one by now.
That's not good Craig. I've opened a hobby case, 3 blasters, 10 retail packs & 6 jumbos- no ink, no jfk's 2 Blk Ref. & a coin redemption are my biggies from all of that along with about 10 swaps from hobby. I called Topps yesterday & left a message . They have not yet called back.
I'm beginning to think that the stated odds for retail are highly inaccurate. The only two products I ever open on the retail side is regular Topps and Topps Heritage. I have opened thousands of these retail packs over the past 2-3 years and have never had anything that was worth mentioning. I only buy packs that I know haven't been searched so that's not the reason. Years ago I remember when Topps Heritage provided a pretty good value. Now it seems so watered down that it hardly seems worth it. From now on, I'm sticking with hobby packs.

OK ................Which is it ......Retail for best hits or Hobby .............I seem to be reading different opinions on what is the better bang for the buck ??????? I suppose from a dealer standpoint of view , your wanting to say Hobby is better ! I believe greed will win out again this year with Topps flooding the retail market like they did last year with 2011 Topps Heritage !

If you strictly buy the retail short print hot packs...it's worth your while. The blasters have always seemed to be an incredible waste of money. I see people pulling hits out of them...but I've personally never had any luck with blasters.
I think hobby might be the better deal, even though I have not even opened any this year. I have bought 3 retail 24 pack boxes at $3.29 a piec, 6 blasters, and maybe eight jumbos. I have nothing to show for it some red/blue parallel fillers, 6-7 chromes, 1 GU, and maybe 7 insert cards. No autos, approx 8-10 SP's and only 2 game used. I guess I better go after some hobby while it is out there. Good news today though: I will be reimbursed the money I paid for a hobby case through Paypal. Even though I purchased the case on Jan 2, 2012 and it is over 45 days old, I will be reimbursed. This is because the ripoff put the words "PRESALE" in the title. I can expect a refund in 10 days. Whew... Just so you guys know, this same ripoff is back on ebay preselling more cases. His user name is cjw1217, beware. As far as Topps Heritage goes, I guess we need a beware post too: over-produced and watered down auto availability. I too am really concerned about pulling the chromes, blacks, and refractors add odds of 1:77 and 1:37.

Greetings, Heritage Heads... Had to join up and tell my pack busting story so far. So far I have ripped 10 Target Blasters, no ink, no clubhouse collections, only significant pull was an Ernie Banks Flashback Seat Relic. I am seeing a different trend in this year's retail than in other years, I have even only pulled 3 chromes, and not a single refractor out of 80 packs. Very different. In previous years I have pulled at least a few refractors, and even landing a black refractor here and there. And I see that no color swaps or image swaps, or any SSP's in retail either. Hobby is definitely the way to go this year for busting Heritage. I will probably buy some more retail just to feed my addiction, but I will be attending a show to buy a few hobby boxes soon.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.
RichD, The stadium relic is a pretty great pull . I opened an entire hobby case & got no ink & nothing IMO as good as a Banks stadium relic. Welcome to the club btw !
Damn! The law of averages has to be off somewhere, or is someone going to open a case loaded with everything that hasn't been distributed properly? Even last year by my 3rd box break I pulled a Hanley Ramirez red auto redemption and a Brooks Robinson Flashback Relic. Guess I have to keep trying! Does everyone seem to find chromes and refractors as a tougher pull this year as well? The short prints and the inserts (NAP, T&N, etc...) seem true to their ratios.

Hobby is consistent with seeding, but it seems like they are replacing autos and black refractors with "Swap" variations and SSPs, which are much cheaper to produce and give you the illusion of value.
Retail is chaos, very random, probably because they have no "Swap" variations or SSPs. I thought the big ones on this thread were retail....but it doesn't appear to be too many in either...........just an opinion so far
I am chasing them. The print runs are irregular if you are talking about the big three. Seriously doubt there are 200 of each in blue ink. I mean really, has anyone seen a Koufax yet? Is he really in the product? If so, where? Maybe Topps is giving them to friends and family.
I pulled a Jesus Montero Blue Ink in the 3 hobby boxes I opened. The other two yielded Clubhouse Collection Upton and Tulo relics. Feel like I got pretty lucky based on the low ink numbers people seem to be reporting.
Those are nice pickups! One day I hope to have one. If Koufax doesn't exist I may have to go after the 2011 since that would be his only real one auto.
Edit: Topps has confirmed that there are ten red ink Koufax autos. Still waiting to hear about blue inks.
There are more short printed autographs than just Mays, Aaron and Koufax.
When I see the amount of numbered to 25 material coming out of Heritage and I then look at some of the real one autographs, I don't think there is much of a difference in print runs.
Want to finish your SP list? I need to build on a Heritage autograph collection for my son who will be born in May. I am trading ten 2012 SPs (your choice) for almost any blue ink Heritage auto (no minor leaguers) from ANY year. Just send me a PM. Thank you!

That tells me there is a lOT of product out there, the opposite thinking of my original expectation. Heavy seeding would indicate a lighter print run. Atleast that's how I see it, they got to get those 19,630 chromed out there, and I would think they would want to do that by an even distribution.

I bought a couple of blasters yesterday. This is the best quality I have seen in terms of not pulling beat-up cards. I am still not tempted enough to chase this whole set. I'll buy a master set in July of August.
Best of luck to those brave souls still ripping!!

Not a great break or value -- I am feeling ill now. Where are the retail autos? I know I have opened more than 500+ retail packs. You would think I would have had one by now.

Welcome to the club btw !

Those are nice pickups! One day I hope to have one. If Koufax doesn't exist I may have to go after the 2011 since that would be his only real one auto.
Edit: Topps has confirmed that there are ten red ink Koufax autos. Still waiting to hear about blue inks.

When I see the amount of numbered to 25 material coming out of Heritage and I then look at some of the real one autographs, I don't think there is much of a difference in print runs.
