Do all cut card cases exhibit these characteristics? I have some 81 baseball and basketball and have never noticed the pressed edges like Nick is mentioning, but I've never thought to look at them that close. I've had several graded and assumed they were just like regular vending but placed in a large box for year end close outs.
Thanks,
David (LD_Ferg)

I thought I would share this recent BIN I picked up off of eBay last week that just came in the mail today. I never thought I would see a Cliff Johnson Mini #143 this nice, clean, and full-sized, let alone own one. This one is a true beast! I was really lucky to spot it right when it was listed. I'm really excited right now! BTW, it's a retail version (i.e., from either a wax, cello, or rack pack)
That was a steal, Nick! Congrats on a stunning card!

Incredible deal Nick! BTW although I appreciate the clever verbiage (i.e. "Love Wins" for the destruction of marriage) I don't see the need to use "retail" version for minis...if it gets to that point, I quit and you all will be able to buy a whole mess of minis cheap
EDIT: Ryan, I hope to get back to the US sometime soon (still waiting for the hellhole that is our state department). I can help you get those last 4 you need in an 8.
Wanted to say thanks to the guys who picked up mini boxes and let folks know I have a couple more if interested. I'll wait a couple days before posting them on the B/S/T

Is this rip from miniduff's sealed mini wax case? I am surprised at the corner dings (not 90 degree corners)...let alone the centering. I appreciate sharing the rips...but seeing what comes out of packs for the price ($2800/box) makes me realize unopened is too risky...and not for me.

This is from that box. The card were actually pretty sharp, but at least 60% of each pack were pretty OC. This box was definitely on the low end up gradable cards, but I did pull some nice ones. Congrats on the 10~always sweet to get a self-submitted 10.
The 73 MVP card is a solid hit, too.
Some nice cards in that group. Are you going to sell them or start a set?

I just picked up a Driessen PSA 8 via BIN and went to add the serial number to my registry and clicked that "add best available" link. Of course the Driessen gets added, but then I see another card pop up. #616 PSA 10. WTF? I have a Rice RC under review right now, but I didn't see that my grades popped. Could it be that it showed up early in the pop report, but not on my account?
I do some digging and low and behold it's the PSA 9 that I sold last month. What a let down.
Here's a little history on this card which folks on this thread will find interesting. I purchased this originally as a BVG 9 earlier this year. I cracked it out (you can see it on page 100) and submitted it raw to PSA. I noticed before I submitted it that it measured a little under 80 mm. Very strange for this color combo.
The first time it came back, EOT. I decided oh well I picked it up on the cheap ($125) and it's not too big of a loss. I figured I'd try one more time on a sub and the next time it landed in a 9. I was pleased with that, but by that time I had already picked up another Rice for my set and decided to sell it.
Long story, but that's the history. So if you see a freshly slabbed PSA 10 Rice show up soon you know a little bit of it's journey into that holder.
Wow, that is some story, Ryan! I would have been happy enough, too, with the PSA 9~I wonder if it was reviewed or cracked out? I'm betting cracked out unless it was sent under an expedited service level as reviews typically take a while. I don't recognize the bidder's initials, either. Is it a mini collector? How much does a PSA 10 Rice RC retail for these days?
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
<< <i>It was a review. Still has the same serial number. The buyer isn't a mini collector as far as I know. He does sell some nice cards from time to time. >>
Just realized that now, as you wouldn't have known it bumped if he had cracked it out.
Congrats on the Driessen pickup~that is a nice one.

Thanks tim! Down to 3 in 8 or higher that I need. 53, 232, 245.
My guess is the value of a 10 rice is somewhere in the 3-4k range these days. Maybe I'll get some good karma and have mine that's under review bump too. It's a nicer card and why I sold the other one.
Interesting Rice story. We all know this is a crap shoot and you win some you lose some. I hope your Rice there now bumps.. I am seriously getting the mini bug!
Congrats on the Driessen! It's a very nice example. It was listed at a premium but well worth the price considering how hard it is to find that nice, IMO.
As most of you already know, I am an avid 75 mini collector, of unopened product as well as a set collector. I started putting together my 75 mini set in PSA 8 or better back in 2007, and am now down to needing just 5 cards to finish it. A large percentage of my set consists of self-submitted cards I pulled from packs over the years~too many to count (or that I wish to recall, lol)~and I can state for the record that obtaining PSA 10 minis via the self-submission route is very difficult indeed. I have also passed a fair share of 9s with lower eye appeal and even selecting what I felt were nicer 8s to fill slots in my set, my pickiness likely one of the primary reasons that it has taken me this long to finsih the set. I know that most people recommend cracking out a card over the review route for obtaining a bump in grade, as review subs are scrutinized pretty strictly, in general, but I recently went through my graded set with an eye towards putting together a review sub with as critical an eye as possible, and after screening hundreds of PSA 9 cards in my set, I wound up with 32 cards to send in~31 PSA 9s and one PSA 8.5 (1957 MVP card). All 31 PSA 9s were as nice and and as sharp as any PSA 10 already in my set, and the vast majority were cards I pulled from packs myself.
Just got the cards back today, and normally a 2 for 32 batting average would be quitre pitiful, but instead I am pretty pleased overall, as both of the PSA 9 cards that bumped to PSA 10 are very low pop cards~a now pop 3 #359 Popovich and a now pop 2 #360 Scott. The funny part of this result is that I also self-subbed the first PSA 10 #360 Scott card a few years ago, but I sold it back then as I received an offer for the (then) pop 1 that was too good to pass up. Here are the bumps:
15 1 19306483 GEM MINT 10 1975 Topps Mini 359 Paul Popovich Card 16 1 15710709 GEM MINT 10 1975 Topps Mini 360 George Scott Card
Anyway, I just wanted to share these results, and although only 2 out of 32 cards wound up bumping, the two that did were very well-deserving and now reside in their rightful holders.

With the wife and kids out of town this weekend, I was able to dedicate some time to organizing my collection. That involved two things.
1. With inspiration from Tim, I looked through all my 9s for really standout cards that have a chance at a 10. I pulled 20 cards that I'm going to submit for review. 2. Uploading additional scans of my cards and getting the digital album set up.
I spent countless hours scanning over 150 cards and uploading them to my registry. I've not got just under half of my set represented with scans. I have the majority of the 9s & 10s, plus HOFers and other tough cards. Following Tony's lead, I also created a digital album. Doesn't look as great is his with no back scans and half the set missing, but still a fun way to browse the collection. Here's a link.
Edit: It sure would be great to see some of the owners of the top sets post more scans of their cards. Looking pretty sparse in the top 6...
I agree with Ryan regarding scans of the cards in your set~it does take some time, but I think it's so much more interesting to actually see the cards in each set rather than just the numerical grades. I found the entire process pretty enjoyable, personally.

Agree 100%, seeing scans allows the sets of those who actually strive for excellent eye appeal rather than flip collecting to get the recognition they deserve.

It doesn't make any sense to me, anyone else experiencing this or have a theory?

My guess is the value of a 10 rice is somewhere in the 3-4k range these days. Maybe I'll get some good karma and have mine that's under review bump too. It's a nicer card and why I sold the other one.

I hope your Rice there now bumps.. I am seriously getting the mini bug!

15 1 19306483 GEM MINT 10 1975 Topps Mini 359 Paul Popovich Card
16 1 15710709 GEM MINT 10 1975 Topps Mini 360 George Scott Card
Anyway, I just wanted to share these results, and although only 2 out of 32 cards wound up bumping, the two that did were very well-deserving and now reside in their rightful holders.

<< <i>You want to hear a crazy/depressing story???
I just picked up a Driessen PSA 8 via BIN and went to add the serial number to my registry and clicked that "add best available" link. Of course the Driessen gets added, but then I see another card pop up. #616 PSA 10. WTF? I have a Rice RC under review right now, but I didn't see that my grades popped. Could it be that it showed up early in the pop report, but not on my account?

Man, I am depressed too. I was the under bidder on that card!

Looking forward to a fun time at the National next week. Spending some cash on new cards always cheers me up.

Edit:
It sure would be great to see some of the owners of the top sets post more scans of their cards. Looking pretty sparse in the top 6...

<< <i>I agree with Ryan regarding scans of the cards in your set~it does take some time, but I think it's so much more interesting to actually see the cards in each set rather than just the numerical grades. I found the entire process pretty enjoyable, personally. >>
Agree 100%, seeing scans allows the sets of those who actually strive for excellent eye appeal rather than flip collecting to get the recognition they deserve.

I just input two PSA 9 minis, no qualifiers, both commons (#238 and #286). These replaced the PSA 8 versions in my registry set. After making the entry, my set score dropped a couple of clicks, from 8.781 to 8.779.
It doesn't make any sense to me, anyone else experiencing this or have a theory?
