<< <i>Love the 83 Donruss Mike! Did you pick up the 12 packs from the recent Heritage auction? -Doug >>
Hey Doug, yes I picked up those 1983 Donruss racks from Heritage, but the lot had 16 IIRC. Really excited to pick those up. The 1984 Topps cello boxes came from the Heritage auction as well. Only thing you have to worry about is the big disclaimer they put regarding unopened. I examined all the packs to make sure they were legit as soon as I got it as you can never really tell from pictures and scans.

Yea gotta love that HA disclaimer. Oh yea 16. I put in an initial bid but forgot to follow up. You picked those up for a SICK price. Congrats! Now I'm glad I didn't jump back in. I probably would have gone *at least* 3x higher and I have a feeling you would have too.

I was willing to bid up to $280 or so before the juice for those so we would have run the price up on each other, LOL. That wouldn't be the first time it has happened with a fellow collector. People don't realize how difficult these racks are to find. I had a battle for those 3 1984 Topps cello boxes, but I won in the end.

I stumbled upon this thread this weekend. As a collector of unopened boxes wax packs, cellos, and rack packs myself, I wanted to say that I am lost for words when I look at your stuff in this thread. I wanted to bump this so others could see what you have and so that you might add some more of your stuff here.
I love this thread CPAMike. I found this interesting about the market value of these rack packs from the 1970's. It would be of great interest to see how these prices have changed from three years ago.

I offered some average prices for racks in a previous post. Here's some average market prices for cellos from the 70s. For packs from 1973 and earlier, the series will affect value, for example, a series 5 pack in 1973 will be worth a premium over a series 4 pack. Cello condition (no splits or tears) is also a factor. Topps produced ONLY jumbo cellos from 1970 through 1972. Those grocery cellos you see up for sale on ebay are bogus. For those years, cellos were housed in an outer cardboard box---green in 1970 (no gum either in 1970 packs), and blue in 1971 and 1972. 1970 cellos contained 33 cards. 1971 cellos contained 30 cards and 1972 packs 27 cards, if memory serves me correctly (the 1972 box did not list the card count). I've noted the card count for other years on the list as well. The prices I've listed are approximate, imo..
Shane, I may have to revise those price assessments of mine! LOL!

Awesome collection Mike! Definitely jaw dropping. I remember when you showed me the cello pack at the national and you were quite proud of it!! Is your new year's resolution to start ripping?????
Here are 5 1973 Series 2 cellos along with the original box. I had never seen one until I was lucky enough to work out a deal with the seller to get it. I would like one of the other packs he sold to someone who shall remain nameless.
