I recently sold a portion of my silver with the intention to purchase some gold, it was a random move on my part which was not well thought out.

I still need some diversification but am hesitant to dive into gold at these prices.

Anyone in the same boat and have opinions to share?

What part wasn't well-thought out? The selling of the silver, or the buying of the gold? The diversification makes perfect sense to me, although if the transaction costs are an issue, it might have been better simply to buy gold when you had the cash. Don't look back - if you are into precious metals, you are less likely to get beaned by a fastball when the Fed announces QE3 - than the poor sap who still thinks that inflation is caused by rising prices.

    Market manipulation. JPMorgue

Nothing serious. Just "filling the vault" full of imaginary short contracts in silver. Carry on. Nothing has changed.

Options expiration for gold and silver is Monday. So a hit normally is expected within 1-3 days of that. Just odd that a new 31 year came in today first.
The JP Morgue cashed in a bunch of their long contracts and then re-initiated more shorts. Win-win.

Let's see if this has the usual options expiration legs that lasts up to 2-3 days.

I remember not so very long ago on this board, when the discussion revolved around whether gold would actually make it above $850 and stay there.

Must have been around the time when gas & milk was at $2.75 a gal. I'm willing to bet, that most consumer food staples will not remain at today's prices either.

Remember that old song, "Haunted House"? This is how I feel about my metals holdings:

    Song Lyrics:
    HAUNTED HOUSE
    Jumpin' Gene Simmons

I just moved in my new house today
Movin' was hard, but I got squared away
Bells started ringin' and chains rattled loud
I knew I'd moved in a haunted house

Still I made up in my mind to stay
Nothin' was a gonna drive me away
When I seen somethin' that gave me the creep
Had a one big eye and two big feet

I stood right still and I did the freeze
And he did the stroll right up to me
Made a noise with his feet that sound like a drum
Sayin', "You'll be here when the mornin' come?"

Say, "Yes I'll be here when the mornin' come
I'll be right here and I ain't gonna run
I bought this house, now you know I'm boss
Ain't no haint gonna run me off"

In the kitchen my stove was a blazin' hot
The coffee was a boilin' in the pot
The grease had melted in my hand
I had a hunk of meat in my hand

From out of space there sat a man
On a hot stove was pots and pans
Say that's hot, I began to shout
He drank a hot coffee from the spout

He ate the raw meat right from my hand
Drank the hot grease from the fryin' pan
He said to me, "Now you better run
And don't be here when the mornin' come"

Say, "Yes I'll be here when the mornin' come
I'll be right here and I ain't gonna run
I bought this house, now you know I'm boss..."
I knew I'd moved in a haunted house
