1538 GMT - Precious-metal miners fall after gold and silver prices tumble, as investors emerge from safe havens amid more upbeat geopolitical news. The gold price drops 2.2% and silver is off 3.7% as markets assume a more risk-on mood after the U.S. and China agreed to further trade talks in mid-October. In Europe , sentiment improved after the U.K. government lost a vote to hold a general election and the lawmakers backed a bill to prevent the country crashing out of the EU without a deal, lifting sterling. Barrick Gold Corp falls 7.8%, Mexican silver miner Fresnillo loses 5.5% and Hochschild Mining is off 6%. (philip.waller@wsj.com)
