I really wish Pierce would keep his mouth shut - if he in fact did make the broom comment. The C's just look like a team with all the answers right now, and the last thing you need is a comment like that firing up a team that isn't playing very well. Just be quiet and win.

No way he made the broom comment. The comments before that on twitter were clearly not him either. Unfortunate that some hacker has become a story in the series.

In the post-game interview he just said they want to "close it out at home", but mentioned many times that Orlando is a good team and that it will not be easy.

I think ORL will win one in Boston, and then the C's will close it out in Game 5.

Is it just me being overly critical, or I am correct in my assessment that Dwight Howard is very awkward with the ball in the low post? He missed a number of shots last night that seemed to be gimmees.

He foot work is not very good and he does not have any finesse. He is physically overpowering with his size, strength and explosiveness. However he does not have very well developed low post moves [like Kareem and Olajawon had when they played].

His offensive game is much better now than it was when he first came into the league and I would not hesitate to pick him for my team. He can get much, much better in the future if he works on developing some low post moves. If he could develop something for his game like Kareem's trademark skyhook, Dwight Howard would become unstoppable.

In general, that is the problem with today's NBA superstars - very few of them want to work hard enough to become all-time greats. Howard should demand a double team on the block every time, yet the C's are winning by singling up on him. Same thing with LeBron - it is inexcusable that he doesn't have a low post game by now. With his physical ability, he should abuse any small forward in the league down on the block with fadeaways, spin moves, and power moves for dunks.

Rondo might very well become a top 5 player in this league soon, because every year he comes back with new addtiions to his game. In the next year or two, he'll develop a legitimate 20-foot jumper (the improvement in the last two years is already noticable), and he'll be impossible to guard.

It just doesn't seem like something Pierce would say, which is why I had a hard time believing it. Plus, I am pretty sure that Doc Rivers has the team thinking clearly, and not in the frame of mind to make dumb quotes like that.

I am so excited to watch Celtics V Lakers(assuming) in the Finals. I can't really say I'm a "fan" of either team, but I like several of the players on both and have cheered for both teams during the season and the playoffs. As a fan of the NBA game in general, I hope it goes 7 and is one for the ages!!!!
  • ConnecticoinConnecticoin Posts: 12,868 ✭✭✭✭✭
Holy Crap. I have never seen an NBA defense totally snuff out a good team like that. The Celts just need to keep their foot on the gas pedal for Game 4, which I am sure Doc will do.

Based upon the Magic folding quickly in game three, I do not see a change in mental attitude happening in game four. The Magic should be done in four, leaving the Celtics with some time off before playing for the Championship.

As far as who plays the Celtics for the title, I am sure that most would like to see the Lakers.

However, I would prefer seeing a Celtics v. Suns series. A sequel to the 1976 Celtics-Suns championship series would be great.
  • ConnecticoinConnecticoin Posts: 12,868 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well, as I predicted, the Celts lost their one game against Orlando. They played terrible and nearly won -- shooting was horrible in the second half and OT. However, credit Orlando for not giving up -- they certainly played better defense, which resulted in poor shot selection by the C's.
  • GootGoot Posts: 3,496
Wow, Celtics look like they're going to collapse. Will Boston survive TWO 3-0 collapses this year????

Just kidding image Orlando's postponing the inevitable now haha

It is a series though...with games 5/7 in Orlando I would think the C's win game 6. Unfortunately they should have won game 4. Awful execution down the stretch. Not sure why Rivers doesn't call timeout to get a set play in with 12 seconds left in a tie game.

Yeah, that's the first coaching goof he has made in the playoffs. Unfortunately, it will cost the team some extra rest and a trip to a hot and muggy Orlando.

Just turned off the game with 6 minutes left to play. I rarely, if ever get "someone just cut me off in traffic so badly that I follow them with my high beams on cursing for 2 miles afterward" angry...and I'm MORE angry than that over Game 5. Between the referees absolutely GIVING the series to the Magic and Doc Rivers FREAKING AWFUL coaching, I just can't take it anymore. I might not even watch games 6 or 7. This series is over. Congrats, Magic. Nice jb opening up that gift wrapped present of a series.

words on a message board can't even capture just how angry I am when writing them.

NBA refs are by far the worst officiating crew around. I am a homer, but throughout this whole playoff so far there has been too many bad calls. It goes both ways in the games and the home team gets way too many calls.

This is Game 7 tonight - at least for Boston. They have to win it, on their home floor, because if this goes back to Orlando 3-3 I have a bad feeling about the outcome.

Yeah but they did not recsind both -- caving in to the crappy refs. Dwight Howard should be suspended for elbowing Glen Davis out of the series.

I'm THISCLOSE to being done with the NBA and I've been an NBA apologist/junkie for years. The one technical that they DIDN'T rescind was the one where Perkins was helping Pierce up and Pierce slipped back to the ground and Perkins elbow went into Gortat. CLEARLY inadvertent, but the league is too scared to completely throw the refs under the bus but removing both technicals. This whole double technical nonsense has to stop. It's too easy for the referees to wimp out and call a double tech.

It's looking that way, but I am not counting Phoenix out. Would like to see them make it -- but either team should make for a good series.

Now it is time to rest, hopefully the Suns will force a game 7.

I have to admit, I thought the C's had no chance of winning Game 6, and really I have to agree Jeff Van Gundy - it all came down to making open shots, the C's made theirs, the Magic didn't. I also think the refs evened the score from Game 5 a little bit, which helped.

Nice lift from Nate Robinson, I can see him getting some minutes against LA, matching up against either Fisher or Farmar pretty well.

Will be intersting to see how LA defends Rondo. Fisher can't guard him, and if they want to use the same defense as 2008 with Kobe guarding him and leaving him to double team, that will fail miserably because Rondo is so much better finding his way into the lane and finishing than he was 2 years ago.
  • GarabaldiGarabaldi Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭
If the Lakers win and get to the Finals it will be very interesting. It is amazing how many times the two have squared off in the finals. Both teams will be very different from the last time they played 2008. The Lakers are better now than they were and the C's have more depth in the middle. Pierce, Allen and Garnett are not as good, but Perkins, Big Baby and Rondo are. If Wallace and T. Allen are healthy their bench will be close to what House and Posey.

If Rasheed decides to try hard at all, the C's will have an advantage when he is in there. We will see.

Much rather play LA then Phoenix - who swept the C's and are a tougher matchup. Plus we need Jack.

The C's have a better bench than the Lakers, but I'm not so sure about the Suns. Given a choice, I would rather play L.A. at this point. The only big man they have is the gimpy Bynum, who isn't that good anyway. Perkins, Davis, and Rasheed should own the paint. I'm not forgetting Gasol, I just think he plays more of an outside game than in the paint.

And so, it finally is Boston vs. L.A.! This should be a great series. It will be interesting to see how they match up with Rondo this time around - I agree that the Lakers are going to have their hands full with him.

NO ONE is a bigger Celtics fan than me. I watched all 67 losses in 1997 with only Tommy Heinsohn's hilarious homer-ism to comfort me...

but I think the Lakers win in 5, and there is a very simple reason:

Rondo living in the paint is the Celtics best weapon, clearly. Anyone who watched them all year would have to agree with that. He can get to the rack, dish it off and get offensive boards in the paint as good as any guard playing today

    BUT

He always gets tentative doing it against good big men. Notice how his stats were off from the previous two series against Orlando? It was because of the fear of Dwight Howard. Now, the Lakers don't have Howard, but the combination of Gasol, Odom and Bynum plugging up the paint will take away options for the C's.

    CAN THEY WIN?

Sure, but it'll be because Garnett shoots over 50% for the series and Ray Allen is over 45% from 3. I might even try some crazy defensive schemes where Rondo plays Artest and you drop Allen on Fisher (always a C's killer). You need to live with Artest jumpers and if you entice him enough, he'll shoot them.

    Go Celtics!
