Rondo was nasty yesterday. Right now it is the Big 1 and the Little Three.

didn't go thru all of the messages but at work today we were discussing the series and wondering if basketball could be fixed.....back and forth, more money earned, etc etc.....now if scripted Cleveland comes home (I'm from Parma right outside Cleveland), wins in a thriller, the series shifts back to beantown and guess who wins to set up Game 7 back at the Q. $$$$$ earned by all....any thoughts from anyone else???

David Stern scripts series really well. More games = more exposure for the MVP.

But the Cavs have Potato Roker as their coach (Potato Head + Al Roker)..........so they could choke at any time, and probably will.

Ron, I am not the greatest admirer of the coach either but I think yesterday's game was more of a result of the Cavs letting Rondo waltz into the lane whenever he wanted. I just don't understand how you can have the other players, both teams included have their players go into the lanes and be met my all kinds of resistance, yet here goes Rondo doing whatever he wanted with no one even stepping in to try and take a charge or at least give a hard foul....I think LeBron, Shaq, Pierce, Garnett and just about any other player from either team got beat up the minute they went into the lane......

I've said this for awhile. I do not think that Lebrons' supporting cast is that good. Lebron has to play fabulous to win games. Kobe does not have to play fabulous to win games--either does Howard. They have better teammates. When it is all said and done Shaq is a non factor. The toughest series will be against Orlando if they squeak this out. I hate to say it "Boston in 7". ===and I'm rooting for Lebron.

To be more exact: The Cavs have a mediocre team with one of the greatest players of all time (LEBRON).

    Awesome performance by Celtics.

6 players in double figures, held Lebron to 15. Great team effort.

    Beatdown of the Cavs! Wow!

Still, the Cavs certainly can come back if they play well -- I like the C's chances now, but it's not in the bag.

Good to see different guys stepping up. Rivers said it best in the huddle yesterday - Lebron might be the best player, but when playing together, the Celts are a better team. Nice to take game 5 though, and no sure things with NBA playoff officiating.

I am not at all surprised at the outcome last night, I'm a little surprised at the margin. The C's are the better team. I'm done with the NBA.

Here's the problem for the Cavs against any of the remaining teams.
    1. Cavs have best player in the series (LEBRON)
    2. Other team has 2nd best player in series (Rondo & Howard & Kobe & Nash)
    3. Other team has 3rd best player (Pierce & Carter & Gasol & Stoudemire)
    4. Other team has 4th best player (Allen & Nelson)
    5. Other team has 5th best player (Garnett & Lewis)

    6. YOU SEE WHAT I'M GETTING AT. Cavs have the best player and the Celts and Orlando have players 2-5.

Cavs can still win. I think Lebron will be very nasty in game 6. With these 2 teams home court is obviously not much of a factor.
  • GarabaldiGarabaldi Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭
The C's need to win the series in 6 and not go to 7 because they need the rest.

This reminds me of the early playoff Jordan years. Jordan was absolutely the best player in the league; but a bunch of other role players at best around him. It got through 1 round and that was it. When another team, especially one with as many solid veterans as Boston can solely prepare for Lebron this is a huge advantage. The Cavs have to prepare for anything--I remember Allen scoring 50 something last year in the playoffs...Rondo doing his Oscar Robertson impersonation....Garnett-future HOF and MVP....Pierce-possible HOF======= It's got to a nightmare for the Cleveland coach and it doesn't get any easier in terms of matchups in the upcoming rounds. I won't even go into the problems that Dwight Howard causes the Cavs.

By the way//// This is not an upset whatsoever. The better team is winning the series so far. People who are trashing Lebron are crazy.

Mickey - Pierce is a no-doubt HOFer, but I agree with your larger premise.

LeBron needs a bonafide #2 superstar, like Pippen, or Kobe (when the Lakers were Shaq's team), and also needs a coach that has a clue. Hickson and Varejao should be playing 30 minutes each vs. Boston. Jamison cannot handle KG. Delonte is a sneaky-good player that needs to be on the floor 20 minutes a game also.

Well, I certainly agree he is a probable HOFer, but I mean, he's never been someone you automatically say is a top 5 player in the league, which makes me think automatic HOFer. I would argue for him to be in, though, myself.

Some great players have not gotten in the HOF right away. Pierce and Walker were considered the same type players at one time. Put great players around Pierce and it has elevated his status no doubt. I don't think he is among the elite. A solid all star but no more in my book. The NBA is the one sport that stresses winning a championship too much and puts too many accolades on players who win one.

I am embarrassed to admit that I was a Cav's fan until that final minute. Ridiculous. Pathetic.

Congratulations to the Celtics....you wanted it, you earned it, and you sure as hell deserved it.

<<<Anyone ever seen a team give up in the last 70 seconds like that in their lives? I NEVER have and I watch a ton of NBA. >>>

Mike Brown should never coach another NBA game again. I've watched a handful of Cavalier games this year (mainly against the C's), and the 2nd most impressive player on that team was JJ Hickson. Somehow he didn't even see the floor last night. Jamison was awful, couldn't defend KG, yet Brown kept playing him.

And I have no idea why they gave up like that in the last minute...inexcusable.

I could not beleive it. 9 points in 70 seconds has been done many times -- and even if the Best Team in the NBA gives up, why didn't their coach call a time out and kick the crap out of them?

After the Cavs figure out where Lebron is going, there is likely going to be a house cleaning in the coaching and front office staff.

Cavs deserved to lose....even LeBron stunk up the joint. 9 turnovers, come on......and some of them were high school silly turnovers....I know, I've seen my son do some of the same on his high school team.image
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,949 ✭✭✭✭
I'd rather see 9 TOs than no effort. At least he was trying... and a 27-19-10 triple-double is nothing to shake a stick at. No supporting cast, and no coaching. Period.
  • GarabaldiGarabaldi Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭

<< <i>Good luck with the Magic there fellas... even the refs can't help you out there. >>

The Magic will need the refs, not the C's. Just to rant a little , the NBA is by far the worst of all the major sports when it comes to officiating. There is no consistency at all.

The C's have to many options for the Magic, but it will be a very good series.

Didn't mean to imply he wasn't trying...I am a diehard Cavs fan, but to be honest when's the last time you read about a superstar having as many TO's in a must win game.....it was sickening to watch....to make matters worse my son is in Boston this week with his school, I bet they are having a great time listening to all the anti-Cavs talk...well, at least he got to go see the Blue Man Group.

As a Northeast Ohio resident and Cavs fan, this is the most disturbing, embarrassing video I have ever watched... I hope LeBron DOES leave now. I don't want to be a part of this. For those who aren't from around here, this video shows everybody who is anybody from this area. Cleveland is one UGLY city!

try not to throw up... Please Stay LeBron

When Lebron hit those 2 threes in a row the game was still in the balance. Lebron then made like 3 nice passes in a row to Verastink and Fatshaq and they either missed the layup or couldn't even handle the ball. Lebron was stuck on an island all by himself. When you seriously break down the Cavs man by man they are not that good. There's a reason Jamison has never won anything...theres a reason Shaq is on his 3rd team in like 4 years.

Sloppy last 10 minutes but REALLY happy to steal game 1 in Orlando. They might panic if the C's can win game 2 - but I see them losing game 2 by 20. Fit's in with how they've played all year.
  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
no predictions here. This team is unpredictable. Who would have thought they'd make it to the third round and be up one after an opener on the road? Not me.
  • jdip9jdip9 Posts: 1,894 ✭✭✭
i agree Barndog...this team is totally unpredictable right now, although I did think if they were going to steal one in Orlando, it would be Game 1. Would have liked to see them coast in rather than sweat out a 4 point win, but I'll take it. Fascinating matchups at almost every position on the floor...really fun to watch.

Ho hum, another great team win on the road by the C's.

We will see if VanGundy has anything figured out by game 3 -- he did get Howard going, though. Carter and Redick were not very clutch in the last minute of Game 2, though.
