This is the deal; I received my uhr last week , and of course mint mailed it a day late for me to receive the first strike designation , so I'm sitting here looking at a box, an unopened box. I was going to submit it and I am wondering if I should open the stupid thing and look at it first? What do you all think??....Joe
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
if the ship date on the outside of the box is 3/12 or later, then I think PCGS would rather have you submit just the capsulized coin, and it'll be a non-FS coin.
If it does not qualify for FS designation, the it makes no difference if the box is open. You can feel free to open the box and inspect the coin for quality (likelihood of MS70). If the coin is damaged, it can be sent back for credit or replacement within 7 days. After the FS designation deadline there is no reason to send in unopened items to PCGS. Unopened items are only required for time sensitive issues (FS designation, special labelling, etc.)

Well alrightie then!!!!! I'll open it. Here goes...... Thanks....Joe

If you intend to have it graded non fs then open it up and send in just the coin in the capsule. If you intend to sell it you might get more for it in a sealed box than as a graded ms69 or raw as some people may belive a opened box coin was probably a reject for submitting for a ms70 grade.

It's the pictures, I saw it also and looked at the coin right away. It's the plastic over the coin . I looked at this piece hard , I think it's a keeper....Joe

If that coin looks that shiny in hand, I'd hang on to it! These UHR's are not supposed to look like that. Maybe it will become a variety down the road? Have you had it out of the capsule?
<< <i>I sent in my FS coin to PCGS on Tuesday priority mail, insured. Sent from the East Coast to CA...anyone have experience on how long it usually takes to get the e-mail from PCGS in regards to receipt of the package? I was hoping that by late last night I would have gotten the e-mail...but I didn't.
I also spent the extra $$ to get a return receipt sent to have proof of delivery...but that will be days longer to get back to me.
First package I had ever sent insured...quite a process they go through to insure it isn't opened. Next time I will use a NEW box instead of the old one with tape all over it! Took the poor postal worker about 5 minutes to stamp all the seams with his little stamp. Unreal.
All in all it is costing me $80.75 to get it out there (insured), graded (FS extra $$ of course) and sent back to me (insured), with all the original packaging and paperwork inside the unopened original mint box(extra $$ of course). Hopefully it will grade as a FS MS70. Never mind the cost to join PCGS to get the submission form to grade it!
I am planning on keeping the coin but if I do decide to sell it, it will hopefully be worth more doing it this way. >>
Well, it took 7 DAYS for the coin to be delivered and put into PCGS for grading! >>
PCGS just posted my grade....MS70. I click on the cert number but it doesn't bring up the next screen where it says if it was graded as a First Strike. The box was shipped on the 11th and marked as such. I sent it in sealed so FS shouldn't be a problem.

Man, I was afraid to take it out of the shipping box, I'm sure not going to take it out of the capsule.

Got a cert # for the UHR MS69 PL done "across the street", 2532004-001. If you have a log in it comes up. The photos are not much use. The UHR label has the PL designation in the photo.
Hope to see this UHR sometime this weekend. I'll get a picture and post.

I was just pullung your leg a bit.
As for PL, mine looks the same and I assumed most, if not all, look that way. >>
Yeah, I think the PL is an NGC thing. NGC seems to like adding PL to their labels. I remember the day when PCGS refused to certify any 1907 High Relief as a proof since the US Mint records never confirmed there was such a thing. However, NGC had no problem adding that designation to selected coins which have gone for huge amounts. I could be wrong, but I think PCGS finally broke down and followed suit.

Asked for a photo. Got this. Can read the label on this one. Can not see the coin. Am advised this is now sold, $1800. This was MS69 PL, # 2532004-001.
No one had a PCGS UHR PL? That would be a real nice keeper.

Done. ebay item 280329134067, a PCGS FS just sold for $1900. IMO in 2 weeks, 70 FS will be $1700. The 69 FS will be $1300, there already selling for $1480.
Well the market is bad or the smart ones are driving the market right now.. I don't care what anyone says about this coin.. It will be a huge winner in 5/10years from now.. It has a amazing strike and look. A real collector knows this was a hit and will be a homerun to their collection down the line.
I don't think the mint figures will be near of what they have sold.. Returns, cancellations. Yea F.S. is a label, but how many will be labeled a 70 with F.S. when it's all over..
The flippers are undercutting each other to get a fast sale. It is the let me see what the lowest priced one is and I will price mine lower so I can get it sold fast attitude.
I am not reading this whole thread to find out, but who ELSE ordered in the first hour or 2 on Jan. 22 and STILL hasn't received their UHR? The more I see these, the angrier I'm getting. WTH happened to MY order?
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.
