I can understand if you are no longer following this thread. On the off chance that you are, just curious if you were able to identify how long it took for your coin to get to you via USPS once it left the fulfillment center? Others have estimated that deliveries to PO Boxes take 10 days. Did you have a shorter time? If in fact the new piggyback USPS shipping via Fed Ex Smart Post is not requiring the use of registered mail then that might be allowing for much faster deliveries to PO Boxes? Did your PO Box delivered UHR come via Registered Mail or merely a delivery confirmation? >>

It took two days from date of ship to delivery at the PO, Northcoin.

As in the past, Registered was used...it is now USPS Priority so the box looks fine, no moisture or damage concerns; that's what I love about the PO Box!

I do continue to follow this thread as I want to see others receive their UHR's!

<< <i>I was told by a dealer that if the package itself is not in the PCGS building by MArch 11th opened or not, it is not eligable for first strike at PCGS, apparently NGC already works this way. Anyone know? >>

OK ....Now am worried. image My understanding is they will honor FS if it is postmarked or mint sealed within the 30 day window. Once the package is in the mail, it could get delayed for 2-3 weeks or get there in 2 days. I know they honored my QUARTERLY special that was mailed a week before the cut off,but did not arrive til 2 weeks after cut-off.

Yep, there it is on #12 of the submission form. USPS Express Mail. Registered is safest but slower. Thanks!

<< <i>OK, here is a quick, crappy pic of mine:

The coin looks cool (just like the "real" one from 1907 at the Smithsonian), however, note the "rim dings" at the top of the reverse. This appears to have resulted from the minting process, but it is unattractive nontheless. image

Should I return it for a replacement? This seems to be poor quality for a coin the Mint is charging a $300+ dollar premium for. >>

I'm returning mine and it had lesser problems.

you either pay PCGS for USPS Registered Parcel Post Mail for return and put the cost of that, from their table, in the calculations for how much you owe PCGS...
    or
you pay directly to the carrier you name for the return and provide alternate carrier info (e.g. give your FedEx account number)

    HELP
I received a tracking number last night for the shipping of my UHR.
I called UPS and there is no information or record of my tracking ID.
I can't seem to get anyone on the phone at the mint. The recorded message says to "call back later."
    Any suggestions?image

this has happened to a few people.
if i recall correctly, you will either:
    1) get it shipped today and get it tomorrow
    2) a remote possibility the box arrives this am.

if the tracking number desn't show up online tonight about 10:30 - 11pm eastern time, then you'll want to call PBGS (800-usa-mint)

or you are using the wrong number as said above....

Quick question - I am filling out the PCGS submission form and a couple people listed 407405 as th ePCGS coin number. I looked it up and it shows 407404 what is with the difference. If it is due to the F/S designation, how would I ever know that? There is a check box on the form for additional services (checked "First Strike"). What is up with that? Also under variety, wouldnt it be Ultra High Relief Double Eagle since that is what is listed on the coin look-up page? Can anyone tell this is my first PCGS submission?

Yes 407405 is the First Strike Number. I do not know what the non-first strike number is but it may very well be the 407404 you mentioned.

If you want First Strike you need to use the First Strike number and check the additional service box of First Strike ($14). I am not sure about variety but I error on the side of caution and put UHRDE in it. I am sure that leaving it blank will be fine as well.

I called three times, AFTER MARCH 11 IF THE ORIGINAL PACKAGE IS UNOPENED AND SENT IN FOR FIRST STRIKE IT WILL GET THE FS SLAB. ANYONE SAYING ANYTHING ELSE OR IMPLYING ANYTHING ELSE IS WRONG. HERE IS THE LINK...

    Important Update About PCGS Services

First Strike® designation is available on qualifying coins for an additional $14 per coin. This fee covers the cost of the special First Strike insert and return of mint packaging if applicable. To qualify for First Strike, coins must be sent to PCGS or sent in a mint-sealed package postmarked within 30 days of the original release date. Cut off dates to qualify are below. For coins sent to PCGS prior to the cut off, customers are encouraged to submit coins in their acrylic capsules only. Coins submitted for First Strike should be submitted on separate submission forms from non-First Strike coins with separate return shipping.

    First Strike® 2009 Cut-Off Dates:

    Coin Cut-Off
MS/PR First Spouse Gold Coins (Hannah Van Buren) Jan 7th
    MS Gold Eagle Jan 31st
    MS Silver Eagle Jan 31st
    Ultra High Relief Mar 11th

I spoke to PCGS as well. I was advised to use US PRIORITY with delivery confirmation. I went to the Post Office and did just that. I insured it for $2,000.00. I was told it would get there by Tuesday at the very latest. I sent just the coin...encapuled (I kept the original box, etc.) This is getting under the wire if sending it already opened!!! (Unless you want to send as Priority Overnight which was $12.00 more)

Not under the wire. You just have to mail it by the 11th. Does not have to be received by PCGS by the 11th.

According to someone in customer service the UHR cannot be submitted under the CC quarterly freebie because "they know" the coin is valued at over $1000.00 and will be stopped and rejected at receiving. This however was also the same person who said the UHR also didn't qualify because it had no sun or rays of the sun on it.......so who knows??

I don't think they care what value a customer places on the coin. It's your butt if the coin is lost. If you took one to a pawn shop, you'd probably only get 700 (if that) for it.

I was just sent an email that my other order for the UHR was shipped. Since it is going to a P.O. Box, I do not have the typical UPS tracking number but have been given some 22 digit number as a tracking number - anyone know if that can be tracked? what kinda number is it?

Big Brown just threw me the big white box minutes ago. I eagerly brought it in and opened it up. The coin was still in the capsule, but the capsule was not closed tightly. The obverse is perfect under magnification. The reverse is perfect, except it's got those "rim dings" or imperfections or whatever they're called above "States of America". There are about 5 of them - one fairly large, the rest miniscule. For that reason, I don't think it would get a 70, so it's going to stay raw in OGP. Still, it is a very beautiful coin and I'm glad I've got it. Not sure if the hullaballoo was worth it, though.

Sorry, no pics, but suffice to say, it looks just like the other one with rim nicks posted earlier...

    Not a chance.

If he put it up before all the others were shipped, I think he would have gotten good money, Now, Nada, it's just a MS70 like so many others.

Timing is everything and that ship has sailed.

My opinion, which may or may not be right, is let it go via auction to the highest bidder. I'd say it's good for about $5K. Then is a few months he can buy one back for much much less.

  • This is my first time posting, but I have been following the thread for a week or so. I have received my coin with order completion at 12:15 PST. My son received his that was completed at 12:06. Mine arrived with the coin in the capsule but floating around in the box. My son's arrived with COIN OUT OF THE CAPSULE FLOATING in the box!!! I am not sure what to do at this point. His coin looks okay on the field, front and back, but the rim looks like it has a few dings in it. I took to a local coin dealer who said he thought it looked fine. I am a novice. I really wanted to send it in for first strike but now don't know what to do. When I called the mint they seemed baffled...what else is new. However, as far as replacement, it sounds like I might not be able to get one, at least not for a very long time. My plan was to keep this for a grandchild hoping one day it would be worth more and that he could use for college or something. So my question is: Hang on to it, but don't get graded? Or, hang on and get it graded? Or send back? Thanks for your help.
