OK, since all we are doing is speculating anyway at this point, how is this for added fuel to the fire:
1. Pitney et. al. negotiates a contract with the US Mint based upon a favorable deal with shipper UPS that gives them a competitive rate. 2. The Shipper UPS offers the competitive rate to Pitney because they don't have to get signature confirmations which saves them delivery costs. 3. Persons from this board complain about absence of signature confirmations. 4. A dispute arises over who should be responsible for coming up with the additional funds that UPS requres to add the signature confirmation service. 5. As is the answer to all current economic woes, the term "Stimulus Package" comes into play. 6. Looking like it might take 6-8 months to get the trickle down funds squeezed from the stimulus package.

Now having said that, and the little that I do know, I cannot forsee any extension to the FS window. Look, one of the reasons that I'm so whiney about the situation is that I want mine FS. having ordered within the first 20-25 mins you'd think that it would be a done deal. People can debate the merits of FS, and there's always someone who'll get on a soapbox and preach away, as if we haven't heard it before again and again to the point of being stale and boring. FS labels are a matter of choice, I like them, I want my stuff tagged so, and if people don't like them, then feel free to ignore the matter and go away. Should my UHR not arrive within the designated time frame, and unless gold is 1300 per oz, it's going right back and I'll pick one up in a bullion deal down the line.

When was the last time anyone received an email from th emint describing the status of their UHR? I have not received an email from the mint since 4 days before the collapse.

I don't want to dismiss either of you, so I'll leave it at I got 2 or 3 "backordered e-mails" with new dates on them. From the 6th, to the 11th to the 18th to the 20th. order in process & not on hold, checkboxes gone, 12:50 am order time (what time zone is that? it can't be GMT or Zulu time), "instock and reserved," pending charge, the works.
However, I almost didn't answer. I think my post above JC's says it all.
Who knows when they will ship. I am guessing even mgmt there isn't 100% sure. -> I just hope they have a really good story when the evening of the 20th comes around. <- Will they turn off the phones?
In the meantime, if you have a good horror story to send to the Treasury's Inspector General's Office, please please do so. They are an Oversight office. They look in to "waste, fraud, abuse." The people screwing up need some straightening out. TheIGO won't care about missing a First Strike Date, but the IGO will care if it ships a month late because the contractor realized previous packages were getting lost or stolen due to their own ineptitude from the lack of requiring a signature. The contractor lost an expensive return of mine and it is still lost! The IGO will care about stories like these.
bottom line: a government paid contractor is not living up to its end of the bargain.
rep's story today partly matched another rep's story from yesterday. it's somehow out of "@ pick" and in some other status which indicates some further preparations. (don't know exactly what preps)
but the rep didn't think that the UPS not getting signatures was the reason for the hold ups. There apparently was some meeting and the rep said they were to tell people that UPS doesn't have to require signatures and may leave the box outside.
So, if this is true, the only reason I can think of that is left, is the people actually doing the work on our orders are really, really, really bad. Hold Ups? SNEFU (E=Everyone's).
Now, I will still pursue the shipping thing for personal First Strike satisfaction, but it looks like the signature requirement -may- be a separate issue. I will also pursue that.
As for the shipping, the rep's from yesterday and today still say it is on track for maybe today or maybe tomorrow. The rep today was telling me people were yelling today. The rep. is well aware of what is going to happen tomorrow evening if these do not go out.
PBGS Supervisors are alledgedly in a meeting until about 11:30 am Eastern time, and I will confirm after that time with one of them.
I had an early order, low order number, my cc had a pending charge 10 days or so ago, and in the Mint's "track order" window, the order looked like it may have shipped. While alot of people here were noticing things awry on their own early orders being fulfilled, I had reason to hope I might have been one of the lucky Charlie people.
Then, nothing, and later, the Mint's pending charge on my credit card expired or was withdrawn...ah well, I thought, just gotta' wait it out, right?
Well, today I found out -after all my effort to keep a big enough amount available on my card- my credit card company has uddenly lowered my limit, and it's now no longer enough to cover the order!

My last e-mail from 'The Mint' was dated 2/3/09 informing me my UHR was scheduled to ship on 2/18/09 (yesterday). When I called 'The Mint' (OK, PBGS) I was told they were all shipping tomorrow, Friday, 2/20/09, but that nobody knew that.
Also just got off the phone with a PBGS/Mint rep and she told me the UHRs were on schedule to ship tomorrow - no big surprise. I also asked about the Lincoln commemoratives as long as I had her on the phone and she said that credit cards were 'ticked' on the 17th (still not sure exactly what that means) and that it looks like those are starting to move today. I will be calling later to get the a second opinion on these two orders and will also be inquiring where the presidential sets stand as they were actually released before the Lincolns and nobody has seen those yet either.

I just got off the phone with another rep and they told me mine were set for Apr. 1 despite having ordered within the first hour. The rep also seemed to indicate that is when the first batch would go out since the rep said "they are not in stock and that's when they'll be in and ready to ship." I told the rep that another rep said the delay was instead due to "high demand" and the rep denied knowing anything about that. The rep said the date on the web site is wrong because that is what the "mint does" and the date does not come from the warehouse.
. . . . I have a call in for the same supervisor that "wondercoin" a/k/a mitch talked with previously about the lack of UPS signatures. My issues are Re: everything... UPS signatures, delays, misinformation, etc.
Should I hold my breath for the return call??? She has all my info! I think the waiting on the "Tin Man" in the Land of Oz might apply, but who knows.
As mentioned before... the more we call and point out the mistakes, the faster they learn. Hopefully service levels will improve soon.
Sometimes it takes one of those roadrunnerlike anvils to fall on my giant coyote head for me to finally throw up my arms in shear exhaustion. I called the PBGS/mint again for kicks (kind of fun actually for the first 5 times) and here is the latest news I got:
Sir, the UHR coins are shipped out on a FIFO manner and we have been mailing them out for a week now. I stated that at most a few have been delivered. The rep stated that that is simply not true. She also stated the "in stock and reserved" does not necessarily mean "in stock and reserved"
I then changed topics to the presidential sets and asked if my order was going to ship - she stated that it too was in process and she had no idea why it hasn't shipped and didn't know how to find out. I remained very calm and nice to her because I wanted to see just how many strange things she would say.
I then asked about my order for my 99 Lincoln Commemoratives. She said that may have been delayed because the shipping address didnt have "Attn: Jeff" above the business name.
I think I may stop calling them after that mess - although I may get the "itch" again in a few hours.
Jeff
Edited to add: she aslo stated the mints lack of tracking is a computer glitch unrelated to coin issues

You are going under the operating assumption that:
1. They want to learn 2, They have the capacity to learn even if they wanted to.
I just received another $1200 worth of gold coins this morning, and yet again, no signature required.

Is it true that PCGS is getting ready to offer a whole new FS special designation for the UHR slabs which don't get shipped as scheduled, which will read, "First Snafu?"
This is a new one for me, Just rec a E-mail your CC and address does not match so you can reorder if you like at the higher price they can go "F" them salf's I'll just hold my $$$ for now this sucks.
Great news I just received from the U.S. mint today. My coin is in it's last stages and will be shipped to me as the last date promised of 3/13/09. The reason is this..
There has been a techincal.problem on a software called "DOLLAR HOLD". WTF is that..
Well as I don't believe in the theory of "First Strikes", I will hold one and flip the other.
One more word of advice, my credit card that I used was to expire on the month of 03, so people please watch out for this.
I gave the customer service a update with the card today with the new exp.date on my new one, same company.
So little oversight can cause you to pay more because your order will be cancelled.

DOLLAR HOLD.. >>
Yaha
That's a known fact & is on the UHR order page:
"When placing your order, please consider your credit card’s expiration date, as charges will coincide with shipment. If your credit card has expired by the time of shipment, your order will be cancelled. To update your credit card information, you must call 1-800-USA-MINT and have your order number available."
Dollar Hold ... is a pre approval for the amount of your order and a temp hold will be placed on your cc for that amount. If the Mint can't get a "pre approval" then forget about your order.
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
The rep answered the phone and asked if I had a question about my UHR. I said yes and she said, "Please don't yell at me."
JC >>

Well it is not as though they didn't warn everybody it could take 6-9 months. >>

you don't advertise a "new product release date" and not have ANY of the product in stock.
would you have a grand opening for a clothing store and have people order from pictures in a book, then tell them to wait a month for the shipment because of (invent a reason here) ???
the "Product Release Schedule" used to mean something!

give them long enough and they will all be one big batch.
I wonder if they are thinking ahead to the evening of the 20th.
Perhaps they should start writing the one excuse to pass out to everyone right now.
"the roof leaked on all the booklets"
"termites gnawed through all the wooden boxes"
"leprechauns!"
"signature induced hand cramps"
"they spelled 2009 wrong"

The IGO will care about stories like these.
bottom line: a government paid contractor is not living up to its end of the bargain.

but the rep didn't think that the UPS not getting signatures was the reason for the hold ups.
PBGS Supervisors are alledgedly in a meeting until about 11:30 am Eastern time, and I will confirm after that time with one of them.
enjoy!
Ain't that the luck!

<< <i>Also just got off the phone with a PBGS/Mint rep and she told me the UHRs were on schedule to ship tomorrow - no big surprise.

1. They want to learn
2, They have the capacity to learn even if they wanted to.
I just received another $1200 worth of gold coins this morning, and yet again, no signature required.
Like I said yesterday - you are wasting your time calling & expecting anything to change. They'll change when they feel like changing or when they get replaced.
<< <i>rep's story today partly matched another rep's story from yesterday. it's somehow out of "@ pick" and in some other status which indicates some further preparations. (don't know exactly what preps)

Is it true that PCGS is getting ready to offer a whole new FS special designation for the UHR slabs which don't get shipped as scheduled, which will read, "First Snafu?"
Hoard the keys.
<< <i>Great news I just received from the U.S. mint today. My coin is in it's last stages and will be shipped to me as the last date promised of 3/13/09. The reason is this..

Finally they told me they were sorry and that I could see the status of my order via this link.
<< <i>I just got off the telephone with them as well. They laughed at me. Then they mocked the size of my fractional gold!

you don't advertise a "new product release date" and not have ANY of the product in stock.
would you have a grand opening for a clothing store and have people order from pictures in a book, then tell them to wait a month for the shipment because of (invent a reason here) ???
the "Product Release Schedule" used to mean something!
