You lucky dogg..
I talked to the mint super this morning and she told me mine was going out on 3/13 and I ordered 4 minutes when they went on sale..
<< <i>You are correct, the mint super told me this today, it will not be back up until they get a firm gripe of the recent failures in their systems.. >>
The Mint site will return soon with all orders zeroed out and prices increased.
I talked to one mint rep today and she said mine would go out on the 20th because that was the last "backorder" date I had. I called right back a couple minutes later and got another rep. He said that my order was "In Process" selecting the shipper and should go out any day now. After hanging up I called again and got another rep. She couldn't say when my order would be shipped, that they are all on hold, yada, yada and finally gave me the 6 to 9 month line.
I choose to believe rep #2, but I ain't holding my breath...
For those interested in PCGS first strike, I have a potential issue for you.
I received packages from the US Mint today both delivered by UPS and at my PO Box at the Post Office. Neither box had any date stamps on them. If you are expecting to send a sealed box to PCGS for first strike, how will PCGS confirm the shipping date is within the first 30 days unless they go out to the UPS and/or USPS websites? Note: the coins that I received were not the Ultra High relief coins.
It seems that you might need to send the coin before the end of the 30 day period.
Surprise; even the enclosed packing/slip/invoice/receipt from the mint which has "all" the info ranging from name/addr., items, USPS/UPS tracking # does NOT have a date. WoW!
P.S. "OLD" short invoices have the date and time on the upper right hand corner . . .
<< <i>I don't know what this means, but after the US Mint's charge on my bank account sat in Pending status the past few days, it has disappeared. Maybe there is a time limit imposed by the bank on pending transactions. Anybody else check theirs? >>
How did they put a pending charge on your BANK ACCOUNT? Did you mean CREDIT CARD? If not, when did they start doing direct debit from checking accounts. This could be cool.
I have been a collector for over mumbly-five years. I learn something new every day.

You know, I just realized something.
We are the trainers for these Mint people.
After experience with people chasing "hot deals" on deal sites, the stores and their rep slowly came to understand what was going on and change their practices.
While, I got some orders in a timely fashion recently, this is not how to handle "hot issues." My Lincoln Commem's are slated to be shipped 4/1? or is it now the 3/4 that shows on the home page????
Shouldn't they "stock up" on the planchets before a "hot issue" instead of telling people it might take 6-9 months? How hard is it to pre-order planchets based upon expected demand??? Sorry, can't buy your groceries today... you have to place your order and wait for the truck to come in a week.... make that 2 weeks.... make that a month... ok we know the truck will come and we told you that there will be a wait.... so wait.
terrible business practices on these "hot issues."
So, the rep today hadn't heard the "all the booklets were damaged" story either. I didn't tell them I was going to cancel, but I made the above very clear to the rep. and we parted on nice terms, too! Still looking at a "target date of the 20th."
Keep training them.... the faster they learn the fewer future hassles.
I just got off the phone with the mint about the order in which these are
being shipped . The gal (I didn't catch her name) said none have been shipped ,
when I told her of the one we all know of , she said well that was because he did something
he wasn't supposed to do , but she isn't allowed to talk about it . She said something along
the line of that he didn't get all the package . I said I don't want the box ,book, or even a reciept ,
just send me my coin in a capsule !! Naturally she said they couldn't do that but said mine was set for shipping 2/18 , I just said thanks and we will see........................

Fishing is not a matter of life and death.......It's much more important than that........
Just called the Mint and they claim my UHR order is in 'pick status' at the warehouse. No charge against the card so I don't buy that it will ship today. However, my Jamaican helper also claims my system backorder date is 2/21, which is in fact a Saturday. Does anyone know if the Mint ships on Saturday?
UHR Ordered on 1/22/09 @ 12:08PM Status: Received ... sent to grading
FWIW, one of the dealers on our network spoke with a customer service rep today and was told that all of the UHR $20's are on hold because the entire shipment of books was defective, and need to be reprinted.
Of course, the rep may have been lying........

I spoke to a rep this morning "Debbie", who claimed that "the UHR's are all just sitting o the shelves", and she added that no one is supposed to say anything but "the mint has no record of what has been received by customers this year." She also added that a lot of claims for missing products have been reported and that is why the shipments have been stopped.

This thread started out as an interesting diversion to kill time until recipients actually started receiving their ordered UHRs. Now that we are approaching a month from January 22nd the topic has taken a lot of unexpected and interesting twists. Who would have thought that the mysterious release of the 1933 double eagles would find its own parallel in our own time?
Hello Board. I haven't posted alot, but not too long ago I suggested the following:
<< <i>Thursday February 12, 2009 10:17 PM Just a wild theory: Could the Mint be purposely delaying ALL of our shipments (aside from the 1 or 2 reported to be "in-hand") to force only those 1 or 2 UHRs to be eligible for "First Strike" classification? I find it inexplicable that no-one else seems to have received a UHR (backed up by posted photo evidence on any Board that we all would find acceptable). Further, the URLs reported to be "In-Hand" were not to the earliest Order #s. " >>
I really hoped that I was just flapping my lips, but the longer the Mint's inability to ship 100s/1000s of "On Order" UHRs persists, the more I fear that CharlesC's FS UHR might be the "one and only"!!
The stage would be set for great 21st Century UHR Coin mystery/drama. The makings of a nice movie (theme: set years from now...how someone ends up owning a 1907 and "the" 2009 FS URLs)...:-)
A few more days/weeks of what we all have experienced to date on delivery of our URLs and I say: "Let the movie script writers begin....how did his 1 coin get released??...and what's the current/future value of Charlie's UHR...$??
Am I crazy? or too many drinks tonight?

Greetings, "CAPT". I appreciate the link to a very insightful assessment of the Mint situation. That was my attempt at some humor, but there still remains the potential of CharlieC's UHR being the only FS graded coin able to be submitted before the PCGS deadline....that's if the situation at the Mint isn't resolved soon.
I think it makes for a potentially very interesting story years from now.
US Navy/CAPT (Ret)/37yrs ------------------------- Status: Ding, Ding...Ding, Ding...Ding, Ding...
That link begs the question. So what if three people got their orders cancelled. Why should that hold up everyone else's order from going out? I suspect we have yet to hear the rest of the story that will explain how one order got out (which wasn't even placed in the first hour) and everyone else is waiting. I also don't buy the UPS signature thing as an overall excuse either since there are thousands of UHRs being shipped by the USPS where Registered Mail remains a foolproof security feature. Again, no reason those orders have not yet left the Mint's fulfillment center.
for a $1 coin direct ship order placed on 2/11/2008 in the amount of $500 total, it was shipped yesterday and received today, 2/18/2008. An order placed on 2/4/2008 for a much larger amount of $1 direct ship dollars has not left the building.
the Lincoln commem's ship date has changed and changed again and again: e-mail received sunday: backordered until Apr. 1 site yesterday: Mar 4 site today: Feb 19
I'm believing the problems with losses more and more.
They need to get them out of the door. I'll take my chances with the USPS. I guess this is my next call today.
The entire operational effectiveness of the US Mint is nothing short of disgraceful. Misinformation, no information, sloppy, amateurish, inefficient, a complete abandonment of good business practices, forget "good", they have made being their customer a frustrating, time consuming and unpleasant experience. Perhaps they've forgotten that the profit they make over their costs is what constitutes their pay? What kind of organizational thought process from the very top to the bottom actually allows valuable packages to be sent without signature confirmation? IS there not one person drawing a check in that vast organization that might have said, "Hey, this doesn't make sense, we need to do something about it". So this allegedly is the problem? Big deal. Fix it! Change procedures, fire some people, kick some posteriors, but get your product out and take care of the customers. The entire matter could and should have been resolved within 24 hours. You know that in the private sector it would have been. They hype the product months in advance, we're excited, the bigshots pat each other on the back, they attend shows, they present the item, we're even more excited, and what do they do? Get half a dozen (if that many) out the door and tell us they don't have a clue on the rest. It's not like this issue only had a weeks notice. Perhaps they should turn the whole deal over to the Canadian Mint with their articulate customer service representatives who actually know the products, handle orders in a friendly, efficient manner, and actually have the merchandise on hand ready to ship without the drama/backorders/ and litany of excuses we've come to expect. Anyway you look, it's a sad situation that is exacerbated as each day passes.

The pending charges came off my card about 4-5 days ago, so I figured it was going to be a while. Yesterday I checked my CC account and it has hit again. << <i>I said: called my cc today and they charged me, not pending nor a hold, days after placing the order. >>
Also, after reading and re-reading the link and comments about the delivery screwups, I have come to the conslusion that we have always been dealing with contractors when we call "the mint." The contractor in this case is Pitney-Bowes Government Solutions. All the calls we have been making have been to PBGS employees.
I just left a message with someone at the Treasury in DC (not PBGS) about this and hope to hear back. Also, the treasury has an “Inspector General’s Office” who would also likely love to know about the problems with their contractor. {waste, poor performance, etc.}
<< <i>Just got off the phone with a Mint rep. and he told me everyones order is on hold and with a wait of up to 6 to 9 months.WTF >>

Wrong! Look at the big picture. Whether it's the website malfuntioning, the products rarely ready to ship on the first day of sale, or just the overall lack of attention to detail, it is the Mint's responsibility period! So what if PBGS or a group of performing monkeys are handling the matter, the Mint should be there to supervise and ensure that things go smoothly. It's their business, so treat it that way.
