I don't care if she lied or not. She is scum for not putting an end to it when she had the opportunity . This being said, it was all based on a false premise based on a lie she told about her husband's demise (i.e., email response)

Can you point me to the post that he states that erin lied?

    Dave,

After she knew they had been caught she said :

<< <i>Erin: "Can I call you back?" (after we talked for a minute)

    Me: "Sure, here's my number"

Still waiting for that phone call >>

    It's really pretty obvious

What's obvious? How do you know Erin had anything to do with this?

it sounds to me that she was shocked by what you were asking and had to go confront Tim about why she recieved such a phone call?

Though I am not surprised by the outcome I do want to say how awesome it is that these boards pulled together for a "cause." Sadly, there probably won't be a second time.

Being a pessamist I checked legacy.com when I first saw the thread and found no obit. However, not all newspapers are hooked up to legacy.

    Oh well, live and learn.

Uh huh. and if this was the case, why didn't she post to the thread stating everything was false? Or, why didn't she call me back to let me know? I did give her my phone number.

You know why?? Because she knew what was going on and she knew they were caught.

Dave, I would be happy to send you their contact information. Perhaps you would like to call and speak with her yourself.

Of course, it's no surprise to me that the devil's advocate had nothing to say in the previous threads about erinstubby's demise. In fact, for someone with nothing at stake here, you sure seem to be very interested in this suddenly.

edited to add: I'm not insinuating that you're "in on it"...I'm just confused as to why you're sticking with the devil's advocate role here...

In the spirit of Christmas, let's put an end to this thread (at least until after the holidays!)...

And enjoy this wonderful time of the year with family, friends or fellow board members on other threads,

and let the joy of giving, and the holidays' spirit, again grow within each of us.

Try to channel this good spirit away from this dark thread,

and channel it to something else, that is good, fun, funny, family, friends (incl. the "CU family), etc, etc,.

    Guess, this sounds a little silly? But after I spent a few days here "promoting a farse", creating a donation thread on the US Coin Forum board (for a so-called dead guy I don't even know!), auctioning off a one of a kind PSA 10 to raise money for Tim's soooooo-called widow and kids, plus "bumping two threads" 27/7;

    ....I've had enough!

I want to expend what little energy I have left, to "things not so dark" as this thread!

I hope others will do the same?

Is this still Festivus? You know, airing of the grievences?
  • The bottom line is that Craig(gumbyfan) is an honest guy who I am proud to call my friend. In a situation like this, it's all that you can ask for as everyone will be lucky enough to get their $$ back. I understand my question at the start of all this made me look like an uncaring jerk-off, but I recalled what kind of person erinstubby seemed to be when they first showed up here. It's easy to get caught up in the good feeling we all get by helping other people out. Unfortunately it's that weakness that the Tim Mastin's of the world look to exploit. The bottom line is that even though we make friends on message boards like these, how much do we really know about each other?? More times than not you really don't know much. In the future it might be smart to remember that before sending some stranger a lot of our hard earned $$!
  • The good deeds of this board are fantastic! I'm happy these kids didn't lose a parent, but I'm also sad if this is the environment that they will be raised in.Gumbyfan, you in particular did a tremendous job and all members should be proud of their actions! Happy New Year to All !

You sir, have got it. We are all faceless individuals online. In person you can get a feel for how an individual is and can usually tell if their full of __it or not. The only thing that anyone knows online is what they are told and on a little thing called faith we believe that they are telling us the truth about themselves.

I would bet that most of us (myself included) have done or said something we wished we hadn't, or done it thinking that others would never find out (and are hoping no one ever finds out) but one advantage of the internet is if you've posted something that you shouldn't have or tried to pull the wool over others eyes but left along the way a trail that can be pieced together you can be sure that it can be found or has been saved by someone and could pop up at any given moment.

It's sad the things people say and do to others but in an online setting you don't have to look that person in the eye that you hurt so it makes it easier (I guess) to do things on a message board. And this is a very sad situation all around.

I wasn't a part of this as I have no PayPal account and really didn't have any funds that I could part with and was feeling bad that I couldn't in some way help out while watching everyone band together on here so if anything keep that spirit of a helping community alive as not everyone in the world is out to mess others out of their hard earned dollars.

Like several others, I, too, was a bit skeptical--not sure why, but publicly posted stories like Tim's cause me to raise an eyebrow.

That said, I also want to acknowledge the tremendous effort and generosity put forth by so many of my fellow board members. Well done to all of you (especially Gumby and Rube).

Yeah, I'm still searching for that video of me in a poodle skirt singing show tunes.

    What a night that was.
  • Haven't posted on these boards in ages, nor did I contribute anyting to Mr. Mastin, but I just want to say there are a lot of good people here and I was touched by the caring and generosity by so many. To an outside observer it makes Mr. Mastin look even more like a Jerkoff than he already is...what a loser for taking advantage of so many good people here.

  • When I told my wife that I donated to this cause, she said how do I know this is legit. I told her that there are some really stand up guys on this thread who I trust and that Gumby fan is one of them. I never would have thought that there was a scam on the other side. Thanks again Craig for putting this together and doing the homework to stop us all from being scammed. I agree with others that the good that came out of all of this is that we got to see the support and charity shown by the folks on this forum.

Wow just read the entire thread.

I have two things to say.

    1. Craig, sorry this is something you had to deal with this over the holidays. You did what you though was right.

    2. I am proud of the fact the forum members were able to generate such a large donation on what we though was a good cause.

Lets put this behind us and move into 2009! Is it 2009 Heritage time yet?
