LITTLEEAGLE could very well be right in his statement about the shopping channels hitting ebay. They had brown label NGC 69's for $999 (I believe, but about 99% positive) on ShopNBC this weekend, and allegedly sold out. They are going to need stock and buying at $500-$600, $700 on ebay, would mean they only have to raise their prices to $1,299. Remember, they are only selling brown label NGC 69's now, while others are selling ANACS/ICG. Looks like First Strike/Early Release pops are just about set, with perhaps a few stragglers in the near future, but then again, perhaps not, perhaps they ARE just about set.

i've got four NGC MS69 ERs.. and i'll be damned if i'm gonna make some dealer rich(er) by selling them to him at $xxx.xx so he can flip them around for a grand or more.. i learned my lessons about selling valuable collectibles (coins, books, records, other stuff..) .. to dealers a looooooooooooooong time ago.. i won't be lowballed again.. even if i have to pay eBay and PayPal fees.. even if it takes a bit of work and takes a bit longer.. the NGC 69s i have didn't cost me anywhere remotely what dealers are getting for them now.. and those slabs can just sit and nap until i see them going for prices where i feel like okay, it's time to list one.. because once i sell them.. once they're gone, they're gone.. i sure won't be buying any back at 10x what they cost me..

PCGS pop numbers should have been updated yesterday/sunday morning.
PCGS MS70's are flipping tough. I got 87 of these directly from the mint. I cherried out my top 22 coins, coins without any flaws, and sent them in to get graded. I got two, yes 2 MS70's from 22 hand picked coins. What this tells me, is that these were pre picked over, these were already returns.
I finally got my grades from PCGS. From an order of ten I placed 03-17-08 the sealed box contained five MS69 '08 ASE with reverse of '07 (First Stikes) and five were regular '08 ASE First Strikes!
Down the road.....a ways down the road IMO.......more $$$$ >>

I was refering to the 08/07's that I rcvd from the mint. I suspected they were returns and this, IMO, confirms it. PCGS will still 69 coins that are technically perfect but lack that extra something that puts them into the "as intended" portion of the MS70 requirement.
If you look statistically at the 69 vs 70 numbers you can expect to be around the average, which is 10:1 for average coins taken straight from the mint and not cherried. By taking out the lesser coins I should have rcvd around 8 MS70's instead of two or a 400% increase.

Since this is a rev of 07 thread I did not think I had to spell that out. This is simple, there are 15 reported dies used for the rev of 07's. You can look at the coins struck and figure out which die was used. Normally, for a modern issue this is foolish, even impossible but since we know with good certainty that only 15 wre used someone could compile a listing of each one.
There has been a theory floating around that many dealers cherried out coins and sent them back. The 20% MS70 grading would indicate that a least the coins were pre selected. I think we got the picked over coins.
<< <i>this could be the last call to get in under $500.00. well known coin dealer and ebay seller just bought 15 ngc ms69. (not from me) t.v shows will be hitting ebay soon, if not already. >>

What would you look for? I'd start with the little shiny planchet flake-spots --whaddya' call those? They're tiny --less than 1mm-- silver pinpoints, and for a given set of Eagles, each coin has the same pattern of tiny shiny dots, and so that seems to be from the strike. That pattern of tiny shiny dots would be unique to a die. Bigger ones --like 1 mm-- look like divets or gouges.
I guess some of the other surface patterns that show up when tilting the surface might identify a die.

Funny to think that with all the dealer picking year to year none of them noticed the 07 reverse, until Halfhunter's discovery...

when did you fall off the turnip truck???? (just kidding) the mint gives you a 30 day return so many use it to their advantage as it is in their be$t inetrest to do so. IMHO there is nothing wrong doing this.
the quality is pretty good this year yet of the raw vs slabbed i have seen there is marked difference, even the NGC 69's looked PQ compared to raw. but that was my expereince buying raw on the secondary market....none would have graded a 70, except for SGS....lol
the NGC ER MS70's are nothing to sneeze at.
i might even guess that a lot of the original 47k might have been returned to the mint by these dealers only to be sent out again....this time it worked in favor of the little guy.

"SILVER EAGLES: This series has a new member....it is the first significant die variety the 2008w with the 2007 reverse (08/07w) This coin is a modern "VAM". I have been trying to figure out what this coin is going to do after its been out for a year. Is it going to be looked at as the long term key to the series with its 47,000 or less mintage or is it going to spike and tank? I think in order to have staying power the coin has got to be regarded as absolutely necessary to have a complete silver eagle mint state set. That is determined by many things. The PCGS registry, NGC registry, Red book, Grey sheet, and silver eagle coin holder albums. The collector needs to feel that without that coin the set in not complete. The more that is true the more the collector base compression shows up in the coins price. Another thing to think about is look for coins with similar characteristics. Maybe not required for a complete date and mint mark set but wanted anyway.
The 1955 double die cent is a very obvious die variety, has a massive collector base in the Lincoln cent series and is rare. Its listed almost everywhere and is famous. Looking at the population reports about 4,000 exist with the center of the grading bell line curve in the AU58-MS61 range. They have a current market price of roughly $1500 according to the Red book. The 1955 DD cent has better ratios than the 08/07w anyway you want to cut it. Therefore I would assume that the top end of the 08w/07 is well below $1500 long term in typical MS 69 grade.
Will the 08w/017 still bring more than the 2006w silver eagle 5 years from now? Good chance but don't forget the top on coins like this shows up in the first year and will back about 30% off its first year peak in years 2-4 as is typical. Yes I know that this time is different.......
The silver eagles are selling very well and the mint has got to be very pleased. The 2007w and 2008w sold very will in the midst of market weakness and thats a good sign for the 2006-w and its date and mint mark key date status. I think the cheap coins are holding up better in this time of surging material prices and thats certainly understandable. This series is massive and a bastion of consistency in a chaotic list of product offerings. All the better date silver eagles will have prices that look like common date CC Morgans in the next 20 years."

<< <i>this could be the last call to get in under $500.00. well known coin dealer and ebay seller just bought 15 ngc ms69. (not from me) t.v shows will be hitting ebay soon, if not already. >>

<< <i>This is simple, there are 15 reported dies used for the rev of 07's. You can look at the coins struck and figure out which die was used. Normally, for a modern issue this is foolish, even impossible but since we know with good certainty that only 15 wre used someone could compile a listing of each one. >>
What diagnostics would you look for?
-69 80/210 38.1%
-70 60/210 28.6

<< <i>There has been a theory floating around that many dealers cherried out coins and sent them back. The 20% MS70 grading would indicate that a least the coins were pre selected. I think we got the picked over coins. >>
Funny to think that with all the dealer picking year to year none of them noticed the 07 reverse, until Halfhunter's discovery...
<< <i>On Teletrade tonight , a PCGS 1st strike 69 2008/07 , and , also a PCGS 70 1st strike 2008/07.. weak prices ?? 70 now = $$ 3900.00 >>
For this auction (Auction 2537 - Lot 2217) It should be noted that neither coin sold.
The $3,900 was obviously the Dealers reserve. I didn't catch what the 69 was set at.

when did you fall off the turnip truck????

<< <i>There has been a theory floating around that many dealers cherried out coins and sent them back. The 20% MS70 grading would indicate that a least the coins were pre selected. I think we got the picked over coins. >>
when did you fall off the turnip truck???? (just kidding) the mint gives you a 30 day return so many use it to their advantage as it is in their be$t inetrest to do so. IMHO there is nothing wrong doing this.

What a bunch of DUMBKOPFS. They kept the $250 coins and returned the $650 coins.

Here, I'll quote it:
"SILVER EAGLES:
This series has a new member....it is the first significant die variety the 2008w with the 2007 reverse (08/07w) This coin is a modern "VAM".
