This would assume that they mint to order, which I do not believe they usually do with Silver Eagles, or at least, they do a very large minting at the same time... the Mint has to keep a tight schedule for their minting since they have to do so much every year... I would bet that it's more likely these got minted in January or February and then pushed off into a storage area until it came time to release them...

I ordered 10. The mint rep I talked to said they were picked for shipping on the 21st and that is when they charged my credit card. I know this because I tried to change the credit card number on the order and she said it was too late, they already charged it and they were picked for shipment... I wonder if they are looking at every coin that leaves now, it has never taken this long from when they charge my credit card to when they ship.
I think these are just going to go up up up until we get an idea of how many were released. Then it is going to be a huge spike, up or down.

I think the united states mint did not expect to have to mint so many coins so early in the year. I doubt they had the new design dies in hand and to keep up with demand, they used left over dies. This would make a lot of sense given the sales and apparent number of 2008/2007 coins released. I think the mint had full knowledge of the issue and gave the ultimate go ahead to use the unused dies of 2007. It saved them money on the unused dies and they got to keep pumping out coins.
Mine shouldnt spot till after I have sold them.....which could be very quickly for some of them (got enough of the '08 Rev '07 to flip and hopefully fund a few more spot free examples)....as I'll just plop them into the ol' 'FoodSaver'. ABSOLUTELY NONE of my '06's, nor my '07's have begun to spot. I know its been mentioned a few times on the forums, but I swear by it. It makes me no longer leary of picking up ASE's. I simply have made the 'pages' approximately the same size as a 3-ring binder page, put a normal manila page (I use two) between each sheet (for protection), and if its done right (which aint hard, though it never seems to 'suck' the exact same way twice ), they look pretty decent, but you have to be consistent with the sizing, hole-punching, etc, and you HAVE to start with a nice binder. After some of the ones in my first set started spotting, I dumped them all. Now, I feel comfy again picking them up. It can be hard to find nice, spot free, examples, but slowly they are popping up and I firmly believe if you start with a spot free example, and suck that air right out, it keeps em spot free, and with no PVC in the bags, I swear by it. I even started putting my modern 90% commem dollars in the same binder-type set (I know ASE's and commem planchets are prepared differently, but it IS the U.S. Mint, and it IS silver, so..better safe than sorry). Now, if they could simply make the rolls of material with none of their brand name on it, it would save time and money. My 'pages' are done so none of them show the brand name. If you are a collector of ASE's, it could pay for itself just taking the worry of spotting out of the equation.
<< <i>I would really appreciate whatever information members have on preventing milk spots. I woud hate to see it happen to my ASE's
What about already slabbed sae's.... Both PCGS and NGC are spotting
Thanks everyone and good luck!! >>
This is why is get 'em, slab 'em, and sell 'em. Sometimes I just forget the slab 'em part. As much as I love the 20th Anniversary set I just can't stand to wait for the....
BTW, these moderns bought some nice 7070 classics.
As far as my 'FoodSaver' album, they are slabbed, both NGC and PCGS. It appeared that PCGS spotted much more quickly than NGC, though BOTH do spot. I swear, after seeing some of those '06's spot as quickly as they did, and to see mine still spot free and looking sweet, I think its (the 'FoodSaver') a great way to go to avoid spotting. I am very comfy and convinced taking the air out of the equation does the trick. However, it really shows how protective (or non) the slabs really are, and how relatively easy it is for coin docs to artificially tone these while still in the slab.
PCGS graded 105 2008-w eagles for me. I did not know about the 2007 reverse when i sent them in. there on the way back now, I hope I get some 2007 reverse Coins!
I placed an order for 99 on April 20th and received them today. I got 19 out of the 99 with the 2007 reverse. Should I hold? Grade? Dump?............. >>
JUst curious but look at your packing slip and see what time/day they were packed. Also what is the code number on outside of big box??
I noticed that the coins are now on backorder at the Mint. What if they notice that the wrong die was used and correct the problem? Is it possible that maybe an employee used last year's die and struck 5000-10000 of these coins? It's possible that from now on, all the coins will have the 2008 reverse. These may be very limited.
As per All the Messages posted in this Form by the form members some one posted that the 2008-W ASE with 2007 Reverse came to the people whose orders are shipped from 04/10 and till today. Now this coin is Backordered and if the MINT stops shipping the people 2008-W ASE with 2007 Reverse what will be expected coins that the people received in this typr (2008-W ASE with 2007 Reverse).
Some members are posted that there will be less coins of this type. some members posted that this happened due to the use of the old Die, and also posted that the Die will be changed after minting some coins. Some members are comparing this coin with 1995-W coin. If there openion is true and if this will be the lowest type in the whole ASE coins, what will be the price for this coin in the comming days. Will people be interested in buying this coin. In Ebay the price is comming down very Quickly. If people are so interested in such a coin to buy why will the price drop.

On a seperate note Gainsville Coins now shows these as 'Call for pricing'. Earlier today the MS69 were $150 and the ms70s were $325. Looks like they are averaging around $200 in MS69 on Ebay.
Well, went through 3 boxes of 50 (150) total delivered today and all I got was a sore finger from prying them out, and shoot the one box of 50, looked like they had already been pried out by someone else as the boxes had a noticable edge pry marks...Says packaged 4/23 3:52:45
Well for what its worth the way to get them out is not to pry them but rather smack them into your open palm. Usually takes 2-3 good smacks til they pop loose.
Sounds like those received today are likely the end of the rich vein. Just a hunch but I doubt many if any will come in next week.
Looks like Gainesville is going up on the prices for these again. They WERE listed with hard prices, now it's 'Call for Pricing'. These are going to go through the roof in short order, and if it turns out to have even that 3% mintage, its gonna be a hottie...gonna make the Rev Proof look almost common (yeah, I know, ones a proof, ones an unc, but you know what I mean...for those that build COMPLETE sets, proof and unc). I'd also love to know how many have been slabbed and not designated. I think you'll see alot of PCGS get re-slabbed with the designation on them and the PCGS pops will jump, but will still be a low mintage coin. Hell, maybe the $119, and the $150 (I hate you guys that got them for $69...lol) will look like a bargain in the near future. Gonna enjoy seeing how this plays out.

You should really hate me a lot...I lucked into 5 today cherrypicking at a B&M for about $30 a piece.
Renman95, you are right, I DO hate you! lol...good job! Its always nice to hear the pick pocket got his pocket picked (assuming he is like the average POS B&M dealer we hear all too much about (not saying EVERY dealer is crooked, but we all must admit there are a LOT of dealers that make the minority of the good ones...well, you know...what I mean). Oh, and dont think I have forgotten about hating you Renman95. I am just glad I got a few, with enough time to get them physically, put them on the bay, and hopefully flip 'em and make enough to pick up this nice DMPL Morgan I am looking at. The prices are going to climb for at least another week, so, I should do ok, but again, Renman, you will do better....I DO hate you!! lol...but then again, I really have no B&M to visit around here, unless I go to the 'Collectible Store' that has comics and the only real coins are whats in the cash register, or somewhere in Boston. I love going to JJ Teaparty, but they are always so busy, and dont do a real lot with moderns, not to mention the storefront gets a bit cramped with all those people selling their silver and gold. Man, do they get busy!!!
Now, if they could simply make the rolls of material with none of their brand name on it, it would save time and money.
nutz4coinz, Have you tried the Sears brand of vacuum bag. These have no writing on them and the back side is not as opaque as the Tilia brand. Someone needs to run a PVC test on them though. The bags seem more soft & supple than the Tilia's. I'm not convinced that PVC damage can occur in a vacuum, but wouldn't want to take chances.
I have alot of coins that have been vacuum packed for years. I believe as long as they stay sealed, that 1000 years from now these coins will look like they do today.
From your description above, I still can't wrap my feeble mind around exactly what you're doing with your vacuum bags & ASE's. Got pics?

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set: 1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S. Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
HalfHunter...just lay the the coins in the 'sleeve' (the roll you can make your own size bags from. Just measure it to basically the size of a piece of 3 ring binder paper (sizes vary with the machines, but there are many many different sizes of binders also, so just measure accordingly). Place the coins (as I said, mine are in slabs, so just center them by eye). Depending on the size of the roll, you may have to cut (I use the bigger roll of material..sure, it costs more, but it will fit the binder by being able to be trimmed....best to have too much than too little...too little and you are all done). Once you have 3 sides sealed (make sure you leave extra room on the side where the holes are to be punched), just check to make sure they are centered, as you know the plastic has to go so far into the machine before it hits the 'vacuum' part, gently hold it in place (so the coins dont move), start sucking that air out and in a few seconds, the suction will take care of holding the slabs in place. There are different sizes of machines, and naturally, you can make this work for numerous sizes of binders. And just describing this, makes me now want to get some 'Intercept Shield' pages, and use those as well between the 'pages' of slabs. Though I am pretty much confined to bed for another week or so (I over did it and set myself back), I will try to get some images. Trust me, if a non-rocket scientist like myself can do this, any untrained chimp can figure it out! lol It just came to me one night as I was individually sealing ASE's, and there was a binder on the counter near it, and the proverbial light bulb went on.
Using keywords 2008-w reverse of 2007 on eBay to search for these auctions they are down from 97 yesterday to 47 today. Supply drying up already? Draw your own conclusions.
just now, using the keywords I tried yesterday, I got 122 auctions with 2007 reverse in them. That's up from yesterday's 93 my search first returned. The 122 is also what I got around midnight, so the additionals were already listed by then. Remember, it doesn't reflect #'s of coins in dutch auctions. I guess I'll do a NGC/PCGS/Other breakdown when that comes up...
ms69 33/122 27.0% ms70 26/122 21.3% other 63/122 51.6%
166 auctions with 2007 reverse in Coins and paper money, looks like the majority are Silver Eagles, with maybe 20-30 featuring other coins, Platinums, Presidentials and state quarters tossed in. I remember when the news hit about the GW MEL, there were almost 1000 auctions up and today there are a little over 90 of those. Not a whole lot of Eagles with a huge collector base. What were the 1995 W eagles going for early on? No one would have paid $1000 within a month of release--right? but eventually.....
<< <i>Well, went through 3 boxes of 50 (150) total delivered today and all I got was a sore finger from prying them out, and shoot the one box of 50, looked like they had already been pried out by someone else as the boxes had a noticable edge pry marks...Says packaged 4/23 3:52:45 >>
2manycoins, thanks for the tip...my finger is purple
i'm still holding on my estimate of around 5-7% find on these 07 reverses (in total)
I'm guessing that most of what has been released by the mint up until the current Backorder is either in-hand or in-route. This will be the end of this variety from the Mint. In all I'll wager that the total released will be under 10,000. JMO!
That is a "just-rite #" not so rare as to make it un-collectable, but scarce enough to command a nice premium, and should become a Redbook var. JMO again!

my subscription order of 1 is still sealed, I wonder if I should open it? I also have two that are sealed, shipped on 15 April. I was going to wait until the Baltimore Coin show in June to open them up. If they are the reverse of 07, I'll get them graded. Otherwise, I don't want to open them if they are 07 rev and miss out on the first strike, and I don't want to get them graded if they are 08 reverse.
I bought 10 from Gainesville coins on wednesday, delivered on Friday I'll hold onto them for a while but I did put up one as a "feeler" auction and maybe drive some people to my other auctions.
I have another order of 10 coming from the mint that was picked for shipping on tuesday. It has been way to long in the shipping process for the mint not to have gone through them. They should have been shipped on thursday...
My 12 are all in to PCGS for first strike and variety attribution. I don't think too many will have that designation because when it was announced that PCGS was going to do it, people were at work and did not have time to get to the post office to get their coins in the mail .

Have a good one!!!
as one other poster said......
take the top off the box, turn it over facining your other palm and smack the box on your palm - the coin comes out in the plastic holder.
of course, you get a sore palm after 100 coins
some are lucky and get huge percentages out of thier lots, others none.
so far, myself and friends have searched around 3,000 coins and turned in around 7% success.
all dated 4/10 to 4/23 ship dates. subscriptions before that date, NADA/ZILCH/NOTHING.
the prices seem to be peaking to most, but this is what always happens when more come quickly to the market....
if this is a 30,000 or less mintage error/variety, it will explode in value
the number to beat is 30,125
good luck to you all, keep searching.......................................................
