There is a very cool Luis Gonzalez & Jeff Bagwell auto'd '91 UD card for $60 BIN on the 'Bay right now...haven't seen a Topps auto in awhile...I'd really like to own the Donruss Rookies auto ShoelessJoe has, but he wants too much like always.

Added 1964 Topps Richie Dick Allen. Great player that from my reading was also a complete tool. Recently named to the Veteran's Committee ballot so maybe he gets in one day. Card contains a wonderfully early "Richie Allen" signature, a few years into his career, he insisted that he be called "Dick" as Richie was a child's name (at least according to Wikipedia image ) Relatively rare as his autos since then have been signed Dick.

  • Hey Mikee

nice additions to the HOF collection.

That cleared up my questions about Richie / Dick Allen.

    cheers

<< <i>Added Great player that from my reading was also a complete tool. >>

I've read a lot of the same stuff, but just to balance the scale a bit...

Goose Gossage sat in on the Braves' broadcast a couple of days ago and praised Dick Allen effusively. He said that Allen took him under his wing when Gossage first came up to the White Sox and gave him a lot of tips on what to do as a pitcher, sort of reverse engineered from the batter's point of view.

Viewed in the light of modern statistical measurements, he looks more like the fearsome slugger that all his opponents describe. I'm hopeful that he gets his justly earned place in Cooperstown.

Like all of your stuff, that's a killer card.

Added 1986 Topps Jerry Rice already PSA/DNA'd. I figured I'd add the top few from the other sports as well, and The Sporting News ranks Jerry Rice as the 2nd greatest football player of all time. I already have the 3rd (Joe Montana), and I will be getting the 1st (Jim Brown) signed in early November, and I've got the 4th (Lawrence Taylor) lined up as well.

Mike, Did you see that 53 Topps Billy Martin autographed on Mile High. I was bidding, but when it got as high as the 69 Mantle autographed I had stop! It is his 2nd year card just wondering if you saw it

Didn't see that one, the only auction catalogs I get are Mastro's and R&R. Do the other big companys send out catalogs? Do they have a lot of signed cards.

I occasionally have seen signed 52 Topps Billy Martin's on ebay. I think I"ve seen 2 or 3 since I started the collection back in April.

Mile High does have a catolog they send out, It did have a few signed cards, I belive they had a Musial rookie autographed in there. With the buyers premium at 17% it is hard to get a deal!

    John,

There's an LT signed rookie right now on ebay if you are interested. It's already PSA/DNA slabbed as well. There is also a signed LT 1982 Topps in action for only $10.00 on ebay as well.

Added 1970 Topps O.J. Simpson already PSA/DNA slabbed. My collection is not a character contest or I'd have to exclude a lot of them for gambling, womanizing, substance abuse, other stuff etc. I admire OJ Simpson the football player, not OJ Simpson the acquitted murderer or convicted kidnapper.

Hmm. Wonder how they can authenticate that OJ signature. Not saying it isn't authentic, but it doesn't look like the ones I've had before. Perhaps an early sig? I dont know much about his autos, just the ones I've seen.

I am pretty sure that card, which is a real RC, was a Score Board prize.

Added my new favorite. 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle PSA/DNA. The Mick's true rookie card. I went outside of my scope a bit of starting with 1952 Topps, but when i saw this one, I couldn't pass it up. This will probably be my last BIG addition for awhile as now I need to replenish the hobby account first. One of the neatest autographed cards I've seen. I can't believe it's mine now (not here yet, but we struck a deal today for it) Here it is:

    Thanks guys.

Brian, the ones I still need are: 1951 Bowman Mays (now that I've got Mantle, I've gotta get Mays too image), 1952 Topps Hoyt Wilhelm, 1952 Topps Eddie Mathews, 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente, 1963 Topps Willie Stargell, 1965 Topps Jim Catfish Hunter, 1988 Topps Traded Roberto Alomar, 1991 Upper Deck Pedro Martinez, 1992 Bowman Trevor Hoffman, 2001 Ichiro SPX Jersey/autograph combo. 2001 Tiger Woods (any of the certified autos), 1971 Barratt's Jack Nicklaus (got the card, just need to get it signed), 1996 David Beckham (got the card just need to get it signed), and a Muhammad Ali signed rookie, 1957 Topps Bill Russell (basketball), 1969 Topps Lew Alcindor, 1972 Topps Julius Erving, and 1980/81 Topps Larry Bird/Magic Johnson.

If anyone knows where to find those, I'd appreciate a heads up. Thanks,

Yeah, I got it cheaper than the $5,500.00 he was asking for it, but a little more than the $5,000 I originally offered. I got it for $5150.00. I know a lot on here think that was too high, but I didn't know if I'd ever have the chance again as you never know what's going to come up in the future. I know it makes me smile and it's coming out of my bank account, so I said to heck with it and bought it.

    Gonblott,

I did indeed end up getting an AROD (you can see the picture if you want in post 1 of this thread) , but I ended up getting one already PSA/DNA authenticated and slabbed on ebay. I was going to send an unsigned one to that signing, but I bent the card getting it out of the slab it was in, so I sold that one, and got a nice one already signed and slabbed.

Added a 1983 Topps M&M's Muhammad Ali. Already passed PSA/DNA quick opinion, nice vintage Ali signature. Ali had some earlier sticker cards issued in Italy by Panini, Great Britain cards by Barratt's and Vendorlandus, but I believe this to be his American issued standard sized rookie card. In 1983, Topps produced these cards and sold them directly, as well as M&M's, and under Finder brand and Hostess. I would have preferred the straight Topps, but I don't see these that often so I jumped at the Topps M&M version.
    Neat card of "The Greatest"

Yes, but I won't be getting one of the ones posted above by chromerookies. He's a good guy, we just didn't come to terms on the Mays. Made a new friend though.

I'll probably just buy a raw Mays and get it signed at his next appearance. That's probably my most economical option.

Since I have an Ali, of course I had to add a Joe Frazier. Added a 1983 Topps M&M's Joe Frazier. Already PSA/DNA slabbed. Frazier had some earlier stickers, and the Sportscasters file cards, but I believe this to be his American issued standard sized rookie card. In 1983, Topps produced these cards and sold them directly, as well as M&M's, and under Finder brand and Hostess. Nice complement to my Ali card. Those two had some epic battles. I love watching them on ESPN Classic.
