In the spirit of 2009 Heritage I found these in an old binder of mine. Crummy shape but I like them. Bob Oldis is a family friend and scout for the Flordia Marlins.
Michael, Funny you should mention Sanguillen. Of all the cards, I think that has the best shot at a 9. There are 2 others that look worthy, but you never can tell.
<< <i>Although this card isn't in the best of shape, I couldn't be happier after getting it this week...
It was the last card I needed to complete my 69 OPeeChee set - a set that I've been working on for the last 3+ years.

That's the kind of (OC) I can get along with. Great looking card Tom, looks like a straight up 7 to me. Unless those are roughcut corners, I'd go higher with an (OC).

Thanks Trent. I'm not planning to get it graded, but I would guess that it would only get a 5 at best. Johnny's got a pretty dinged up lower right corner, plus he has that damned printing crease (that OPC's are notorious for) running from the top of his head down to his hand.
Very nice '71s. Not bad for having a rubber band around them. Looks like some 8's in there. The 3D Clemente is great too. How do you flatten out a card like that and not have it crack on you?
Merlin Olsen....dang, it's a trip to see how young he was. I don't think of him as a Ram, but more of an actor. He was Johnathan Garvey on "Little House on the Prairie".
<< <i>I'll give it a try: they are/have been managers or coaches at the major league level?
BTW, nice 76's! Those have really grown on me the last year or so.
Robert >>
Robert, nice try, but incorrect. Thanks for taking a stab at it. Hint: The answer involves each player only within the context of the '76 set. It has nothing to do with their on- or off-field accomplishments.
Flags is correct. Old Glory can be seen in the background of each card...even Jim Beauchamp. You do, indeed, win something: my undying respect and admiration, for you have proven yourself to be a true card enthusiast.
Brian,
Thanks for the kind words. They keep me coming back each weekend.
Here's some mini's. Owned since '75. I just wanted to add that Michigan and Calif. weren't the only states that had mini's,(you may already know that) I grew up in Oregon and they were what we had there. I believe Washington State also had them. Great looking cards today guys. Doug
Thanks Brett. I'm not quite sure how they survived through the years. No plastic sleeves back then and sheets were just coming out. I think the secret is that I kept the years separate from the beginning so they weren't knocked around with all the other cards. Believe me I have my share of "well handled" cards from the mini set. I can't believe this set is 34 this year. Yikes

Nice Gretzky rookie!
Collecting: Topps 1952-79, Bowman 1952-55, OPC 1965-71, and Pre-War White Sox cards
Nice cards.
I'm a big fan of the 62 set too. They are especially nice when you can find them in that condition.
I don't know why it is, but it seems like the 62's are a set that people either love or hate.

NICE CARDS! For some reason Manny Sanguillen's cards always were interesting to me.
Let me know the grades you get.

Best of luck with the grades!

Brian,

Those cards look tremendous, especially considering that you've had them since 1975. Lots of star power, too.
do I win?
Amazing '70s cards by the way.
