You're throwing in one of those as a free-bee with my Warburton, right?

I never noticed before Ryan's nice big post, but on the 1959 Jim Brown, the Topps art dept. forgot to replace the natrual photo background under his left arm with the blue pattern. I wonder what the original photo looked like.

Very interesting question Bob, Personally I think the cards would have looked better with a background other than a solid color.
I have always liked the 1959 design, evenout the natural photo backgrounds. I believe there is a similar "error" on the '59 Hornung.
I did a 1955-style Jim McMahon last weekend and this weekend will finish up a '55-style Bill Goldberg; I'll post a picture after I get back from Arizona on the 23rd.
Then I'm switching gears to do a few 1958 style cards and maybe a 1957. Those will be a first for me. I've really got a nice list of to-do card projects that will keep me busy for awhile.
Just in today: 2nd year cards are a great value in comparison to the rookies. Picked this up for $100 under SMR
I have a SGC 7 available to sell or trade if interested. >>
2nd year cards are a great value. I think I paid $60 for this 2 years ago. Not the greatest 7 I've ever seen, but a great way to put together the 59 set for a reasonable price.
W.C.Fields "I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Rev - Love that Bronk piece... the man not only looked like he was carved from stone, he hit like it too according to those who played against him.
BDD - Always great to see the Chicles getting some love!
I thought I would share this here since one of my favorite things about this thread is all the "oddball" stuff that has been posted.
This is the 1972 Chiquita NFL Slides complete set with the viewer, the original box it was shipped in, and the complete send-away magazine ad.
I have seen a few of these sets come and go over the years and finally landed one... for about a third of what they typically go for without the box and ad. Not an ultra rare set and it doesn't include a ton of star power (Bob Lilly and Joe Greene are the top stars), but I was very happy to add it to my collector for just a bit over $20.00 delivered!
It seems like the buying of vintage football has slowed some recently....which results in this thread being buried. We can't let that happen! Here is an idea that will keep the thread active, and doesn't necessarily have to be a new purchase.
Post a card or other item of a player and provide a short bio or interesting fact about the player...so that we can learn about some of the old timers. I would recommend that we choose many of the not so famous vintage players..the non-hofers etc. but I guess it really doesn't matter who though.
I will start....
I just picked this one up....
After reading the bio on the back of the card, I became interested in Gehrke. The card stated that he was a "technical illustrator during the war..and that he helped design aircrafts like the "Black Widow" Night Fighter and the new "Flying Ram."
After doing some research on him, I discovered that he is credited with designing the Rams logo, which was the first logo to be painted on NFL helmets ....Pretty cool stuff! He then became the GM of the Broncos during the late 70's.
I've always enjoyed looking at the '68s. Maybe because they somewhat resemble the TAAs..
Thanks for sharing.

Here's an oddball item - in 1936 the Giants played the College All Stars on Sept. 8 in NY and win 12-2 - Tuffy Leemans and Dan Fortmann played for the All Stars. Leemans then went to the Giants and on Sept. 13 the Giants played an NFL game at Philadelphia and lost 10-7. Then they played two non NFL teams, New Rochelle and Passaic and won both, but then lost their second NFL game at Pittsburg 10-7 on Sept 27. Their next NFL game was in Boston on Oct 4, but on Oct 1 they had another exhibition game in Washington DC against another college all star team, which they won 35 - 0. They scored their first NFL victory in Boston three days later with a 7 - 0 win over the Redskins. Anyway, here is a program from the Oct 1 game featuring Tuffy Leemans:

Thanks a lot. I have a Dale in a PSA 8. I actually just got that back from grading. I bought it raw at a local card show. You're right, it's a tough card. I think it's on the upper right hand corner of the uncut '68 sheet.
I collect Packers in both SGC and PSA holders and I have some raw too.
I had these graded about 10 years ago, check out the old PSA labels. I bought these raw around 1995-96 when you could still find NM-MT cards at reasonable prices.
Picked up one of my white whales (got paid nicely for doing a coaches clinic so had a few extra bucks). Got it for a good price considering how well centered it is. Odd story on the card's sales history. Anyone want to speculate?
dslsports sells it to jonogg on 7/20/08 for $430.02
I've coached football and lacrosse for years. I'm in administration now so I just work with the coaches. I do clinics through US Lacrosse for beginner to high school jv/assistant coaches. Get to travel all over doing these clinics and really have a blast and they pay me which = $ for cards. US Lacrosse is a great organization to work for US Lacrosse on a part-time, seasonal basis. By the way, for those who know him, doesn't Fats Henry resemble card dealer Brian Marcy of Scottsdale Cards a little in the face?

Nice card Ryan! Interesting fact about Feathers is that after that 1000 yard Season it would take him another 5 years to gain another 1000 yards.
Im liking those Chicles more and more, great artwork!
