They're still available, and I cannot do it. Even if I can... it is not wise at this time in my life to incur debt for this offering from the Mint. As a matter of fact, a couple months ago... I cancelled ALL of my subscriptions. Kennedy, Sacs, Presidential, Commemoratives. I don't know why. Something just clicked in my head that said "STOP". So I followed my conscience. It's been difficult to cointinue the resistance of not buying these little orbs, but I really had to stop. I confess that being a coin geek is a sickness. Admitting that I have a problem is the first step in solving it, right ?
So what are your opinions as to the price of these sets if they sell out?
My thinking is they would pop in value to maybe 3000 then slam down to melt+100 once the hoopla calms down and the 30K hangover sets in. Very successful for the mint though.

That sounds reasonable to me, but as some have pointed out, this collector base could be much larger than the basic proof plat collector base as people try to complete a set of all three reverse proofs. In which case, the gold issue would become the limiting factor. Still, it would help the plat.
<< <i>The Mint is counting on 20,000 flippers in this issue, otherwise they would have limited it to 10,000 sets ... same amount as the 2006 AGE 20th. >>
and if you can look past the 74 negs, it may be a deal. >>
Also has no return policy and makes no reference to the set being sent sealed in the Mint shipping box so I would expect to receive a cherrypicked, opened set that will not qualify for the 10th anniversary designation. Dosen't sound like a good deal to me since they are still being sold by the Mint.
Never teach a pig to sing. You'll waste your time and annoy the pig
I bet they ship most of them together in order to screw the flippers and to avoid complaints to Congressmen. They did that with the Jefferson First Spouse coins. There were too many complaints after the Washington and Adams First Spouse coins sold out fast with the 5 coin limits and staggered shipping.
In my past experience, once they say an order is "in process", it will be less than a week until you receive it. In fact, most every time I get an email notification of the shipment, FedEx has left already!
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
The only reason we have not seen PCGS' announcement yet on 10th Anniv sets is that they are strongly considering changing course and labeling the coins "10th Anniversary". To that I say - carry on!
A separate issue would be whether the coins might also qualify for "First Strike" despite the limited mintage and limited availability per set, per person. I personally think there is no reason for PCGS to change what they have in place with "First Strike". It is an important piece of intellectual property for the pubic corporation the way I see it (if for no other reason the 20% added premium charged to slab these coins as 'FS").

I would like PCGS just to label the sets 10th Anniversary Platinum...b/c that is what they are. Why can't PCGS management listen to their customers....I understand there is a "box" issue as all sets would have to be sent in sealed. PCGS did it for Silver 20th and Gold 20th....why are they not giving the Platinum collectors the same opportunity????
PCGS jumped the gun when they labeled 2006 platinum coins as "10th Anniversary Platinum" ...the USM issued NOTHING in platinum in 2006 to distinguish the coins as 10th Anniversary...it was PCGS that created the label ......
now when the USM actually makes a product that commemorates the 10th Anniversary.... PCGS waivers....
The way I see it PCGS will jump in when the first coins ship. Their biggest competition has already announced a label. There is no way PCGS will miss out on potential easy revenue such as this. Modern proofs are among the easiest to grade. i.e. easy money.

This is soooo true. It's been done. With the boxes and everything, for the Gold and Silver set. Precident has been set.
Besides, this is probably the last 'Anniversary' coin for nine years. PCGS should do what they have already done and then we'll be done with it. I estimate that grading each set will cost almost $100, that won't be chump change.
PLUS, where's most of PCGS revenues come from ?? Modern coins, the spouses, the anniv. sets, all the eagles, if it wasn't for us Modern collectors PCGS and NGC would be much smaller businesses.
Anyone care to guess why platinum is up $11.00 as of this post I wonder who may need some? Getting 15,000 oz. of physical metal may affect the price abit.

As a long time collector of plats, it is my opinion the the reverse plat sets will go the way of the First Spouse coins. There just aren't enough collectors to support a 30,000 mintage. Heck, there aren't enough enough collectors to support a 7500 mintage. Within 18 months, these will be selling for melt plus 5%. The only people who have bought up to this point are flippers ( who will be completely disappointed), people that will hang in for a year (and then sell in desparation) and approximately 25% of the true plat collectors (most of whom are waiting to score in the aftermarket. JMHO
Only way this will become popular is if it stands on its own. A one time collectible regardless of trying to collect the entire series. I hope it will do well but that is all I can surmise at this point.
Will they ignore the 25th Anniversary? - I don't think so. Make that 4 years
This is the 10th Anniversary Set. It will not be til another 10 years or 15 years for the 20th or 25th version. I seriously doubt the series will be around for that long. By then platinum could be $5000 an ounce.

You guys better not be auctioning your kids off to pay for these sets. They'ed better be properly fed and clothed. Also, remember- food and shelter..........Yes better than the reverse proof- much better? I don't know, but yes better!
I think the modified reverse proof will be an awesome coin and any platinum eagle collector would be a fool to pass this one up. Like I said before, send them all back to the Mint and I hope no one buys them, except me.

making a correct decision on whether or not to
purchase a Mint issue. The Reverse Plats seem to
defy that strategy. The set is a fairly large issue,
very expensive, not distinctive in design and yet,
my instincts tell me to over look these observations
and go with the strange belief ,that this set will become a
premier collectible. Whether that will be in an instant or over
a year or even 5 years I believe that this set will be a big winner.
Even Should I be wrong, I still end up with l oz of platinum and a nice
wooden box.
