I have my form filled out, ready to go. 99.75, I did not include $10.00 for the regular proof, which will not, per PCGS, be a FS. It will get the special annvs. label. This is the way I understand their guidelines. If in error they will adjust payment. .................Edit , above was revised so both now can get FS label
I have multiple accounts and the mint is pulling out all the stops on cross referencing to cancel orders.
I must have slipped by or they like me because two of my accounts that I ordered from have my first name and last name on both accounts. though everything else is different.

They revised the original 10th anniversary guidelines. They will now designate both coins with a First Strike® 10th anniversary insert as long as you submit the Mint sealed box and request it on the submission form.
I will definitely be holding on to the reverse proof. I hope with the anniversary label the regular proof brings a premium to help offset the cost of the RP.

i figure there are multiple ways to go with this set and i honestly don't know the best course of action to take..
a - wait until it shows up on Monday, immediately photograph the sealed box, and list it on eBay hyping that it is "in hand and ready to ship, not a pre-sale"
b - send it in, sealed, to PCGS within the thirty day "First Strike" blah blah etc. etc. rules, pay a hundred bucks or whatever it is, and pray for a couple of 70s, or at least a 70 on the Reverse Proof.. i could walk it through and pay for same-day at the next Long Beach show, but that's not until February, so it's after the thirty day cut-off.. so it wouldn't qualify for First Strike designation, right?.. just the Tenth Anniversary set designation?.. the LBCC is a twenty minute drive for me.. i could hand it over to PCGS, pay for same day walk-through, and have the slabs back in hand later the same day (after a few nervous breakdowns over how the two coins would grade.. if i get a pair of 69s, i visit the nearest hardware store, buy a rope and a folding chair, drive to the nearest park and find a convenient tree branch)..
c - wait until 12/31/2007 to see if the Mint is going to take these off sale and if they don't, return it to them for a slow, cheerful refund.. and just forget the whole thing..
d - receive it on Monday and sit on it for a while to see what the prices do for sealed sets.. based on whether The Mint keeps selling them until all 30,000 are sold, or they cut off sales earlier than that..
e - just hang onto the sealed set for a year or two then sell it based on whatever it's worth by then..
f - get it, open it and admire what i just paid nearly two grand for.. i.e., look at the thing instead of just The Mint's tiny picture of it.. don't bother with slabbing at all.. keep it in its original condition, watch the prices for the next year or two, and then sell it when i can make a decent profit off it..
after seeing that the Mint had charged me yesterday, then checking the Fedex secret Freemasons area 51 black helicopter Advanced Tracking Web site, and finding out it was scheduled for delivery on Monday.. and buyer's remorse set in.. i crawed into bed and actually had a dream / nightmare about this set last night.. the mailman had handed me a GIANT box from The Mint.. i set it on the living room floor and tore into it, there was an ornate Victorian dollhouse inside.. all of these "assemble it yourself" parts.. rooms, furnture, and a display room for the two coins.. with two, round, empty holes in a fancy wooden wall cabinet with little glass doors on it.. i kept digging through all the myriad boxes and packing looking for the capsules and coins.. and couldn't find them!.. i said to myself this can't be right, where the Hell are the coins! i didn't pay two grand for a dollhouse!.. former co-workers of mine who i haven't seen for decades came and went in this dream.. they said "Harv, why did you buy a dollhouse?".. i kept digging through all the packing material looking for the coins.. then i woke up in a start and thought geezus.. it was only a dream..

How about just keeping them because you collect plats and you like the set. If you have buyers remorse already, just send them back. With approximately half of the offering sold (14,682 according to NN), there will probably be quite a few issues graded in 70 condition showing up on ebay. because i am not a Platinumm Eagle collector, for one thing.. for another, i expected this set to sell out quickly, and it didn't.. for another, i bought this set with someone else's spec money, not mine.. the plan being to expect a fast sell-out (which didn't happen), and then flip it for a tidy profit, which now looks totally unlikely.. if i open it up, admire it, and then return it to the Mint and get a refund (minus return postage).. i'm out barely any money and don't have to angst myself into a straight jacket obsessively watching eBay prices for it..
knowing what i know now, i regret not mashing the [x] cancel box while it was still there.. however, The Mint HAS pulled plenty of fast ones before.. viz: the 2004 Mint set.. the yanking of all 2007 Commemoratives a few days ago.. the re-start of selling 2007-W Burnished ASEs.. the revelation that the 5500 Cheerios Brass Bucks were patterns (now worth $12,000.00 per a recent TeleTrade auction for one).. how many years did it take for that news to come out?..
you say they WILL sell them past 12/31.. you're convinced, and i bow to your superior knowledge of APEs.. but this set isn't the usual yearly issue.. this is a one-shot, and The Mint has proven that they'll do whatever they want to, regarding shutting off sales early, or extending sales, or even re-starting sales of previously closed products..

Hehehe. Thats right my friend. Thats why it is a speculative play. If it was a known entity everyone would pile on and there would be no money to be made.
With unique reverses, every single year is a "one-shot" for the plats. If it is really stressing you, send it back. You will sleep better at night. Its risky to gamble with other peoples money, especially when you don't know the game your playing in.
As far as yanking the commems early, The Mint always ends sales of the current years commems on or about december 14. No fast one there.
Here is an interesting tidbit from the Mint News Blog that could accelerate the sell-out of this anniversary set (See the Update):
Dave Harper at Numismaster has some sales figures on the newly released Mint products including the 10th Anniversary Platinum Eagle Set. Many collectors have eagerly been awaiting some data on how well these sets have been selling to gauge whether a sell out is possible. From early data, the sets are selling briskly making a sell out a possibility.
Out of a total maximum authorized mintage of 30,000, the 10th Anniversary Platinum Eagle Sets have already sold 14,682 sets. Nearly reaching the half way mark in about a week shows strong interest in the sets. Another thing to keep in mind is that the sets still have a limit of only one per household. If this limit is increased or removed, I am sure the sets would sell out within a few days.
Update: According to this Buzz, the Mint intends to remove the ordering limit after 7 days of sales. Soon enough, we will see if a sell out is in the cards.
it's been over seven days, since the sets went on sale on 12/13, and the ordering limit is still there.. would the Mint make such a change over the weekend or more specifically.. on a Holiday weekend (Xmas is Tuesday)?.. seems like if they were going to remove the ordering limit, they'd do it either on Monday or Wednesday next week..

at this point, knowing the games The Mint plays.. i think throwing a dart at a calendar would yield just as accurate a result as throwing everyone's opinions into a hat and drawing one at random :-/ .. i'll just wait and see what they decide to do and then act based on that.. or not.. heh..

The Mint increasing the household order limits (which I doubt will happen) would only affect those looking to sell sealed sets or pre sales. I think they will sellout before the end of the year anyway. I could care less what the Mint does, my sets will be here on Monday and at PCGS on Wednesday
Never teach a pig to sing. You'll waste your time and annoy the pig
Here is my prediction. They are already sold out and will not admit it. If you don't get yours this week, you probably won't get one. The mint was so aggressive in cancelling orders this time its not funny. I had two account, my home and work addresses, they shared the same CC # (you can do this if you call your CC company and get an alternate shipping addr.) and they cancelled both of them. They also cancelled my dad's because he has the same name as me. They would not be doing this thinking they are going to sell 30K of these, I bet the mintage is exactly what NN printed, and that is it.
Count your blessings. I can barely making ends meet so no more coin purchases here until 2009 or 2010 or whenever house prices stop falling. I'm actually considering selling my collection to get cash to live off of. Anyone else hanging tough right now?
Don't want to rain on anyone's parade but the reverse proof sure looks like pre-2004 bullion coins to me. Minus the shiny face the obverse appears to be the same. Ebay link provide for comparison to Bear's photos.
Hi, I was wondering does anybody know a trustworthy dealer in the Houston area that I can submit my set to PCGS thru? Thanks and Merry Christmas everybody.
14,000+ sets in only 4 days is pretty spectacular.
2,000 dollars x 14000 = 28 million dollars in 4 days
In 4 days the total mint orders were APPROX 40,000 thus 35% of the orders were for Reverse Plat sets. It would seem, that when Mint orders are around 100,000 we should be at or near sell out on the Rev Plat Sets.
>>
Strange, Bear. You are usually so much more level-headed and rational. I'm used to you being the voice of reason on these forums. A mintage of 30,000 is unprecedented for any platinum coin. The only way that such an insanely high mintage would sell out is if interest was through the roof. And if interest was through the roof, these would have sold out in hours (like the MW, AA, and TJ FS coins). ONLY selling half in the first four days of mintage is extremely, extremely bad.
P.S. You should also know that the number ordered drops rapidly after the first day. How can you predict that the 35% of orders ratio will hold up in the following weeks, when the first few days *always* have significantly higher sales than subsequent days? I'd be extremely surprised if more than 3-5% of the Mint's daily orders are plats, at this point.
I'm just not seeing a sellout on these. Ya'll can go with your gut all you want, but the numbers tell a totally different story. P.P.S. In the interests of full disclosure, I do have three sets on order. And they are already to sold to Maben.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
This is a "Must Have" for Plat collectors. Now, we will get a better idea of how many Plat collectors there might be. And besides that, I would bet that this set actually does influence a few fence-sitters who have been watching Plats for awhile. It may never be rare, but it's collectable in every sense. Cool Set!

<< <i>HOLY CRAP!!! Mine said will deliver by Monday at 430, but I just checked and it is on the vehicle for delivery!!!!

so who was it who said earlier in this thread that Fedex does not deliver Priority Overnight on Saturdays.. (from the Mint when you get "expedited shipping" on orders of $300.00 or more).. ? ..
mine Tracks as shipped yesterday and at the "local sort facility" as of four hours ago but does not yet say "Out for Delivery" so i don't know if it'll show up today or not until Monday.. guess i'll call them and find out.. have to go to a store but don't want to miss the driver in case he does show up with it..
i had an epiphany last night and after due consideration, remembering that the Mint allows returns up to 30 days from when you receive an order from them.. i'll just hang onto the set and wait and see if it sells out in the next 29 days.. if it does, i'll keep it.. if it doesn't, then i might sell it to a dealer (depending on what they're offering).. or return it (and with my luck it'll sell out the next day and i'll immediately regret it).. or just keep it and wait for it to sell out even if it takes weeks or months.. but i'm NOT going to immediately return it just because it hasn't sold out yet.. i also decided not to pay $100+ to get it slabbed.. there's absolutely no guarantee of any kind that i'd get 70 70 or even 69 70.. i (or anyone).. could get 69 69 and i think that would make the set worth LESS than just keeping the two coins in their Mint capsules in the original wood case.. knowing the frenzy to get these things slabbed, original unslabbed sets could end up being harder to find than two slabs and an empty wood box..
on eBay, the word "Rare" is highly over-used.. and become almost meaningless.. but the words "Sold out" does have an attraction to bidders..

Thanks space monkey! The coin is just as beautiful as I had imagined. The platinum Reverse Proof is destined to become the centerpiece of every modern collection that is lucky enough to own one and will be a very sought after coin, I can only imagine what a First Strike® 70 set will go for. The first ones listed will go for moon money I bet.

you say they WILL sell them past 12/31.. you're convinced, and i bow to your superior knowledge of APEs.. but this set isn't the usual yearly issue.. this is a one-shot, and The Mint has proven that they'll do whatever they want to, regarding shutting off sales early, or extending sales, or even re-starting sales of previously closed products..

So either let it ride or fold your hand.
Happy Holidays!
As far as yanking the commems early, The Mint always ends sales of the current years commems on or about december 14. No fast one there.
Regardless of that, Happy Holidays.
Soon enough, we will see if a sell out is in the cards.
it's been over seven days, since the sets went on sale on 12/13, and the ordering limit is still there.. would the Mint make such a change over the weekend or more specifically.. on a Holiday weekend (Xmas is Tuesday)?.. seems like if they were going to remove the ordering limit, they'd do it either on Monday or Wednesday next week..

at this point, knowing the games The Mint plays.. i think throwing a dart at a calendar would yield just as accurate a result as throwing everyone's opinions into a hat and drawing one at random :-/ .. i'll just wait and see what they decide to do and then act based on that.. or not.. heh..

<< <i>Will anyone pop the RP out if they don't get a 70 and send back to the Mint? >>
I don't think there is a big enough window to accomplish that.

First of all, PCGS grading service has slowed quite a bit of late.
And with reg. mail both ways being what it is, well.....as OJ says, "if the grade don't fit, you have to commit!" >>
that is one reason why people have more than one set coming...
wasn't it Johhny who said that?
I suppose right after Christmas Day should about do it.

I thought I read that you canceled your order a couple of days ago?
I got sidetracked and was going to cancel but the box is gone. I'll take a look at it, take a pic and send it back...cest la vie.

then I reordered the set. I guess, for
a bear I am a nervous Nellie. I guess I
can let the bills pile up for two or three months
until my tax refund comes. Those who
stay the course will not regret it, at least
in my humble opinion.

Have you re-cancelled, Bear???
looking forward to sending the box out to PCGS,
sealed, as soon as it arrives. Once they are graded
into the bank vault they go for the bear cubs.

Yes, I understand............................

it was midnight December 31, 1995. I ordered 2 sets on Dec 31 after 5 pm. Only by phone or mail, no web then.
no sales after that time/date, no extra stock to sell into the next year (if there was, it was melted), the way it should be.
<< <i>What is the groups opinion, send in to grade or leave in a sealed box? I can't decide. >>
Open it and enjoy it RAW! Don't imprison beautiful coins in ugly plastic with silly labels on it!
One of the most beautiful Mint Presentation Cases.
and, since i have no plans on submitting...
here ya go!

14,000+ sets in only 4 days is pretty spectacular.
2,000 dollars x 14000 = 28 million dollars in 4 days
In 4 days the total mint orders were APPROX 40,000
thus 35% of the orders were for Reverse Plat sets.
It would seem, that when Mint orders are around 100,000
we should be at or near sell out on the Rev Plat Sets.
>>
Now I have to decide whether to open(grade) it or not.
Looking for reasonable silver lots (rolls or bars preferred). PM me with what you have.
This is a "Must Have" for Plat collectors. Now, we will get a better idea of how many Plat collectors there might be. And besides that, I would bet that this set actually does influence a few fence-sitters who have been watching Plats for awhile. It may never be rare, but it's collectable in every sense. Cool Set!
I knew it would happen.

Always wanted to do that...
